Sugar and Spice: An L.A. Candy Novel (L.A. Candy #3)
Sugar and Spice . . . Not everyone's nice.
Fresh from being betrayed by one of her closest friends, new reality-television celebrity Jane Roberts has learned a few lessons. Most important: know who to trust. And inHollywood, that list is short.

So I read this book and now the series is over. It was a tad short, 3 books a series does not make. I guess I am a little disappointed that it's over. With Scarlett moving to NY and Jane moving up in the event planning world how could LC call the series over. I would have liked to see how Jane and Scarlett did in their new elements but at the same time I understand that LC wants to write a different series about Madison, which I plan on reading. Even though I despised Madison as a character, I w...more
Just like the others... sugary chick-lit that only takes a few hours to read. This one was a little more outspoken about how reality shows work, probably because the girls had already been on a season and they were realizing that Trevor controlled them a lot more than they initially thought, and I both liked and didn't like that. The plot became more involving in this book- things moved very fast and I forgot to wonder about who each character was based on.
BUT.

Sugar and Spice is Fiction, but could also be a biography in some parts. I chose this book because I loved Lauren Conrad on the Hill's and I wanted to see if she could write.
The protagonists' name is Jane, and the supporting characters are Scarlet, Gaby, Caleb, and Braden. The antagonist is Madison Parker. After moving to Hollywood and going through her scandal of cheating on her boyfriend, and finding out that her friend Madison sold pictures of her to the magazines, Jane becomes very angry at...more

This book is about how Hollywood might have a sweet side to but that's not all....Hollywood is a place where u need to crush other people to get to the top. that's exactly what Madison did so who would blame her? Madison thought that with Jane out of the picture shes able to be at the top of their reality TV show L.A. Candy. But what happens when she tracks down the blackmailer that has been bothering her since months ago?? And threatens to destroy all that? who's the blackmailer??? Jane's been...more

So...this book was just as entertaining as the previous two. It's kind of hard to distinguish between the three books; they don't have really distinct "personalities" or what have you. I just see the series as one really long book, split into three volumes.
I was very disappointed with the resolution of the Braden/Jane relationship. Maybe it's just the romantic in me, but...it seemed like they had something special. And it seems like that was just the ten millionth relationship of Jane's NOT to...more

So this is my review for the entire trilogy. First off-- are they worth reading? I would say yes, because they only took me about 4 hours total. If you are looking for a complex plot, this is not it (and yes, this is why the third book is far worse than the previous two--it tries to have way too much actual plot, and completely falls apart into boring drivel). Where it is actually successful is in pretty much describing LC's real life, but slightly fictionalized, and the fakeness of the reality...more
I've followed Lauren Conrad's L.A. Candy series from the beginning as something of a guilty pleasure. The third and final installment of Jane's story is probably the weakest of the trilogy, but that doesn't mean it's a bad book. A quick, frothy read, Conrad's books are the literary equivalent to a day at the beach with a stack of old Cosmo magazines. You won't gain much, but it's fun while it lasts.
I will give props to Conrad for not taking the easy way out with her conclusion. I don't want to g...more

Oh, Lauren Conrad, you may not be a fine author, but you still managed to sucker my into reading every page of your ridiculous trilogy. The L.A. Candy series is *gasp* about a girl who moves to LA from a smaller, Southern California beach community with her best friend. The two are "discovered" in a night club, cast into a reality television show and thrown into a world of gossip and celebrity that they are quite ready to handle. Sound familiar? The plot is addictive in the same way that Conrad'...more

In the concluding novel of the L.A. Candy series, Jane has her game face on. She knows that people have lied to her, and she’s ready this time. This time around, she’s sworn off guys, but what happens when Caleb and Braden both want her? What is she supposed to do? And what about Scarlett? She’s having her own troubles with Liam and her family. And of course we have Madison. But she has her own skeletons (figurativ...more

The 3rd book in the L.A. Candy series continues to follow Jane and Scarlett as they are filming season 2 of the popular "reality" series L.A. Candy. Jane Roberts has been through a lot, one of her closest friends betrayed her, and her luck in the guy department has not been working out for herr lately. So she swears of guys, but when her ex-Caleb comes back into town, she must decide what to do. Jane's BFF nScarlett Harp has some decisions of her own. She must decide between her boyfriend, and t...more
“Sugar and Spice” is the third book in the L.A. Candy series and focuses on the aftermath of the drama that Jane previously experienced. It goes more into depth about how reality shows work and how far they are from being realistic. Jane, the protagonist, is truly determined to leave the past behind her and reinvent herself and her reputation. She does this by eliminating some people from her life who she realized never really cared about her and being extremely careful about the people that she...more
Sugar and Spice is the last instalment in the L.A Candy series. These books have been my sweet little guilty pleasures this year and although they may not be the best pieces of literature they keep me entertained which for me is the main thing.
The L.A Candy series follows a year in the life of a group of young, L.A girls who have launched to fame through a hit reality TV show. These books are semi autobiography, semi fiction based on author Lauren Conrad’s time on MTVs hugely successful reality...more

It's over. What do you say to a book like this? I think SLL was definitely the worst thing humans have done. This one managed to, in true Elsie fashion, invent new methods of torturing me. If 1 was Jane exposed, and 2 was Jane betrayed, 3 is Jane walked on. The worst bit of the book is Madison taking credit for some stupid fucking event planning idea Jane had. It's totally pointless, but instead of responding like a human being, not a single person in the room slaps her in the face. Instead Jane...more
I knew Caleb was a player! he was and still, is. Seriously he can't just do that. But, Gabby her like publicist was very provoking and she made Gabby do things that she didn't want to do such as the 'Caleb Story' Wow, and also i NEVER thought Jane would leave the show... like, yeah when Jane found Trevor's 'notebook' i could see i coming up. I like Jane a lot, she has very good karma, like when Sophie (Madison's little sister) spread that really big secret about Madison's identity like, Jane bro...more
Hollywood was fine with fakes, but it was most definitely not okay with frauds
In this final installment of the LA Candy series (*sob*), the girls learn the REAL meaning of reality television as they finally start to discover the ways that they have all been carefully manipulated by their producer for the first two seasons of television's most popular reality show.
Jane, who has not lost a bit of her irritating naivety even by now in book three, is getting fed up with the microphones and the came...more

Ok, I admit it, I'm a 34yr old woman and I've read all three of the novels in the L.A. Candy series by Ms. Conrad. It's hard not to enjoy these books; especially if you are a fan of the show the Hills. Ms. Conrad's writing style is simple and pleasurable. Sugar & Spice is the final installment in her 3 part book series. We finally get to read what happens to Jane, Scarlet, and the dreaded Madison. There are some fun twists along the way very reminiscent to occurrences on the Hills (ie Madiso...more
Okay, I have to try to remember what I thought of this one, because I composed a review of it several times on the morning that I marked it as read etc. (so like a month ago), and somehow my internet connection or Goodreads or something swallowed 'em up. My best guess: Really liked it.
I wish I could tell the publishers that I read these books despite Lauren Conrad's "authorship," not because of it! Whomever actually wrote these, please guys, give her more work! This series was so short, but almo...more

interesting, interesting. i think the neat thing about this series is that you can kind of see the evolution of a writer. there's more development, more about the characters in general, and a bit more plot.
this book felt like a good third draft outline - there were many parts that still needed to be fleshed out (as in: gaby, the end with sophie, etc.) but it had potential.
very quick read that wraps up way too fast. could have used a little more time, i think. i don't really know why the whole...more

I was rather excited to start reading this, because it is the last book in the series and some of our question would be answered, like what will between Jane and Brandon. But as i got deeper into the book, I couldn't help but notice how much recapping was happening. We would be re introduced to something/someone from the first book or the second and get a full paragraph or two of what had previously happened. I don't know how many times I read about Scarlett's theory on Caleb cheating on Jane wh...more
The final book in Lauren Conrad's series! Cricky, what even happened? As with books like these, all I know is that everyone lived happily ever after. The girls were pretty strong in this one and finally took no bullshit from anyone and just did there own thing, which was really nice to read. You didn't even care about the villains anymore because they were just so weak and wasteful, you knew they weren't going to go anywhere this late in the series. Everything wrapped up a little too neatly, as...more
This book is about two girls, Scarlett and Jane are living in a Hollywood life. Scarlett have a boyfriend named Liam Ferguson but for Jane she is single until she met her L.A. crush Branden, and Caleb, her high school boyfriend. Jane didn't know which to choose from because both of them are acting sweeter than ever. Till the middle of the story she picked Caleb when Branden left for a movie shoot. There is one problem though. Branden is Jane's boyfriend so that means Jane is leaving out her rela...more
Jane and Scarlett are on a popular reality TV show. At first they loved going to the parities and getting some more cash. Trever the producer has started to control his characters.
Jane must decide if Braden (the guy she loves) or Caleb (an old boyfriend) is right for her. Scarlett is having problems with her boyfriend Liam, Naveen an old college friend is seen as her 'new boyfriend' on the show. What can dhe tell Liam to convince him she has no feelings for Naveen?

Great ending to the series. As I stated with my reviews of the earlier books, this series is not going to win any literary awards. However, it is a FUN series. You keep turning the page to find out what happens, much the same way you keep tuning in to reality TV. I thought Conrad did a nice job of finishing everything up. She didn't go the traditional, predictable route, and I'm so glad. You know it's not quality reading, but it's a good time, nonetheless. Not that Conrad is a bad writer. But he...more
Like the first two books preceding this one, it was addicting to read. I was an avid watcher of The Hills, watching every season religiously which is why these books might also be addicting. Now that The Hills is off air, this lets me re-live the dramatic reality show in a book, while getting the behind the scenes story of what really happens with reality television, and how its basically all planned out and scripted. Nonetheless, soo good. The writing isn't all that great, but what do you expec...more
I really enjoyed the entire "L.A Candy" Trilogy. A lot of people are put off by these books because they are written my a former reality star. But to be sincere these books are written well. Yeah these books are not a literature masterpiece but they are a fun easy read, which is why I have given them a 4 star rating.

Lauren Conrad had a specific purpose in writing the second book of the "L.A. Candy" series, "Sugar and Spice". She is not one of those authors that states their purpose directly. Conrad's purpose in writing "Sugar and Spice", was to inform the people of the good and bad in Hollywood. This novel is about two normal girls that get chosen to be on a reality show called "L.A. Candy". They move to L.A. and soon their lives begin to change. Before reading this series, I was not sure what celebrities'...more
