It's Christmas time at the Brenneman's Bed and Breakfast. Normally they do not have guests over the holidays, but two unexpected arrivals - a sullen, quiet Amish man and a nine month pregnant young woman - change the entire Christmas experience for the Brenneman family.

I really enjoyed this Christmas story. It contained a wide variety of characters with lots of different personalities all dealing with very real situations.

I am part Pennsylvania Dutch and part Quaker on my mother's side. Occasionally, I have made scrapple, molasses cookies, or a brown sugar pie. But, I have never read a novel that deals with the Amish or Mennonite communities in the United States. I wasn't raised in the community; instead for me, it is simply a part of my heritage. In fact, the reason I read Grace was because it was the Christmas pick of one of my book clubs. I did find that it connected me with the messages my mother has imparted ...more

The Brenneman family is preparing for a family Christmas. They have no guests scheduled, so they are going to fill the rooms with family. But then they get an unexpected reservation—one sent my mail that traveled the country before arriving, and their guest, Levi is due to arrive that day. But before Levi arrives, a very pregnant Amish girl, Melody, comes, carrying a a gift

Loved this book, it was like visiting with old friends and getting caught up on their lives. I have followed the people in this book through 3 previous books and it was great fun meeting up with them again. The main story in this book is about Levi and Melody and the pain they have experienced in their lives. The story is about Levi trying to forgive himself, and Melody who is about to deliver a baby and deal with rape. I enjoyed the interaction of Grace and Forgiveness and Love!

Grace is when God gives us what we don’t deserve, and mercy is when God doesn’t give us what we do deserve. - Dan Roberts

the Brenneman Bed & Breakfast closes its doors during Christmas season. it is a time to relax and be with family and friends. the Brennemans are all excited about their holiday plans until two unexpected guests arrive one after the other - Melody, a pregnant woman and Levi, a quite guarded man. will their arrival disrupt everything or will it bring about something that th

Grace written by Shelley Shepard Gray is the fourth book in the Sisters of the Heart series. I was able to read this book through NetGalley. This book gives us a look back at the characters in the series and takes place at the Inn. I have read all of the books in the series, but I think this book could be read without ever reading the other books in the series because it is more about the new characters. I will warn you though that lots of information is given away about the other book, so if yo ...more

When I’m looking for a book to read, Amish fiction is usually not my first choice, but Grace sounded like a nice story and I was in the mood to read a Christmas story. I was expecting a nice, cozy, curl up in front of the fireplace with a cup of tea kind of book. When I first started getting into the book and was introduced to all the drama and trauma that Levi and Melody were dealing with, I thought there was no way this book was going to be the cozy story I was looking forward to. But this is ...more

Grace by Shelley Shepard Gray is the fourth book in the Sisters of the Heart series. Katie Lundy has been anticipating a quiet Christmas with her extended family at their bed and breakfast for months. Normally it's a quiet season without any customers, but when first Levi shows up to escape tragic memories of his home, and then hugely pregnant Melody shows up, the family must pull together to give their guests a nice stay and treasured holiday. Katie at first resents their presence, but best fri ...more

This was a nice story that really reminds the reader that life isn't all about us, and when things don't go the way we had hoped we need to look beyond ourselves and remember there is always a greater meaning to everything.

Katie is rather upset when guests come to her family's bed and breakfast so close to the holidays unexpectedly (they normally don't host guests during this time of year), but soon realizes that both Melody and Levi need people around them who can help them to deal with issues
Grace: A Sisters of the Heart Novel by Shelley Shepard Gray is the first book I have read by this author. I surely was not disappointed! There are many characters in the story, but their stories were so full of grace it was amazing! Katie Lundy grew up in Brenneman's Bed & Breakfast. During Christmas the bed & breakfast is traditionally closed to all guests and the family comes back home to spend time together. Katie grows very upset when her plans are quickly changed. Within a few short ...more

What a wonderful story this was! I thoroughly enjoyed it! This was one of those, easy flowing, feel good, gets in your heart, kind of story.

This was not a tear gusher, but certain little things just spoke to me and touched my heart, and I did shed a few tears. This was a story of a heart broken man who looses his wife and child and a young Amish girl who is pregnant due to a rape! They both come together at a B&B. Very heartwarming! To say the least.

This was my first Shelley Shepard Gray boo

It's never too late to go home

It’s Christmastime at the Brenneman Bed and Breakfast, and everyone is excited about closing down for the holidays. But when two unexpected visitors appear seeking shelter, the family’s commitment to hospitality is tested. First Levi arrives, sullen and angry . . . but insisting on staying for five days. Next Melody shows up. She’s almost nine months pregnant, but won’t say a word about why she traveled all the way from Kentucky by herself. As the tw

I loved how there were several stories unfolding at once. First there was Melody. She was a young unwed mother with a very sad story. She went to the inn to have some relaxation before the baby is born. Then there is Levi. He was looking to forget his bad memories of Christmases past. Along the way, Melody and Levi help each other get through the holiday. Leah is Melody's English friend from home who travels to be with her on Christmas. She has her own troubles and meets Zach along the way.

This feel-good Amish Christmas story is not all goodness and light. Though a happy ending is predictable, there are still tragedies and sad happenings that are referenced in the novel. The characters are likable and plot is interesting though not complicated. Still, there are secrets to be revealed and feelings to be explored and acknowledged. An entertaining but not great read.

I am enjoying learning about Amish life and their interaction with other people and with God. In this story, a bitter widower goes to Ohio to an Amish bread and breakfast inn. A young, raped, and very pregnant Amish woman goes to the same inn for the Christmas week. The story unfolds in a tale that life carries bitterness, caution, and jealousy. Many times, the Amish are labeled as "Plain", which in this story translates to a belief in a simple life based on the Bible. The story also exposes the ...more

Heartache and Healing

Oh this book started in such a sad note and the brokenness continued until healing began. We all know there are no coincidences, only God-incidences. This book was full of them and everyone bean as a puzzle and ended in joy.

Another sweet story set in the Amish culture of Cincinnati with the Brenneman family. Beautiful way of life, cherished family values and relationships with a inspiring theme of Christian faith weaved throughout the stories each filled with joy, sadness, hope, trauma, gratitude, fears and healing.

I live in southern Ohio with my husband, two teenagers, and two dogs. My days are filled with busy activities like most any other mom and housewife. But I also love to write books.

Each morning, after my kids go off to school, I sit at my desk, look out my window, and dream of other places. The hours fly by as I make up people and places and drink
