Let me just start by saying that I adore books where fashion (and especially high fashion) is incorporated. When I saw a giveaway on Goodreads for this one, I just knew I was destined to have it.
Well, I didn't win it from Goodreads. I was terribly bummed, because seriously, this book was written for me. Luckily, a blogger friend of mine had some books that she wasn't able to get to for reviews and asked me to take them on, which of course, I was happy to do. Hello, books! Anyway, this was one of...more

Fun book with a fashion crazy protagonist. I loved the illustrations and flashes of color peppered throughout the book. This read will find greater appeal with the MG crowd than YA readers, though.

It was a great idea.
It should have been a great story.
Young girl, high class illustrated vintage fashion, pink dress to-die-for.
Forget the feisty, adventure-mad superheroes-in-training that populate much of modern fiction, here was a real girl with a real girl fantasy in all its saccharine prepubescent shallowness.
The cover promised me time-travel, conjuring in my mind visions of a glorious parade of fashion confections from past eras combined with a highly polished, intricate plot.

This was a fun escape from a book that I was *supposed* to be reading (and one that I was *supposed* to be writing, too). Louise has a passion for vintage clothing, and when she gets an invitation to an exclusive vintage clothing sale, she jumps at the opportunity to find the perfect outfit for the upcoming school dance. At the sale, she finds a gorgeous pink dress that smells faintly like seawater, and when she puts it on, finds herself transported to the first-class decks of the Titanic and th...more

She's searching for the perfect dress for her seventh-grade dance but instead she's whisked back onto the Titanic after trying on a gown worn on the ship. She becomes its owner, Miss Baxter, a 17-year-old actress traveling with her uncle. She enlists the help of the maid she befriends to warn the crew about...more

Louise Lambert lives for vintage fashion…she’s quite an old soul for being only twelve years old. If she’s not at a thrift shop or pouring over vintage fashion books and magazines or thinking about it – it’s only because she’s asleep. The twists begin when Louise gets a fancy invitation to a traveling vintage fashion sale. She is so stoked because she thinks this is THE place to find the perfect dress for the upcoming dance.

It's a very cute MG read (I was expecting a YA novel, I must confess), although the numerous modern pop culture references date the book significantly and quite frankly do more to hurt the vintage aspect of the book than they do to appeal to modern readers; the sort of girls who would find interest in this book don't need to be baited by name-dropping celebrities. Conversely, the allusions to vintage designers versus modern fashion houses were charming and enhanced the theme of the book. (view s...more
Twelve year old Louise loves vintage clothing. She can't imagine shopping anywhere else for her first semi-formal dance than at a mysterious invitation-only vintage dress sale. When she arrives at the sale, the proprietors warn her against trying on that special pink dress, the one with a rip in the hem that smells like sea water.
Against better advice, Louise tries on the pink dress and is immediately whisked away to a magnificent ocean liner in 1912. She seems to have taken on the body of actre...more

This wonderful debut ties together fashion, vintage clothing and traveling back in time fabulously. It makes me want to run out to my nearest vintage clothing store and look for each of the dresses that are so visually appealing with the books beautifully illustrated pictures. Although I've come to realize with in the first few sentences of the book that twelve year old Fashionista, Louise has way more fashion appeal than I do, and ever will.

Louise loves vintage fashion. It’s not that she can’t afford new clothes; her mother and friends would certainly prefer that she go shopping at the mall like other girls her age. Louise likes clothes that tell a story, though, so when she is invited to an exclusive vintage sale she is excited to attend. At the fashionista sale, Louise goes searching for a dress for an upcoming middle school dance. When she puts on a gorgeous pink dress, Louise gets more of the history behind the clothing than sh...more

This book was not only beautifully written with an enchanting plot line, but it was also wonderfully done. They contained 25 beautiful illustrations of historically accurate vintage dresses that the characters wore that tied it together the book with an elegant informative feeling. I have never read a book where I sat down and said, Wow there was nothing wrong with that book at all. There were no flaws, no imbalances, and I must say even though this is not my typical dark romance, it is one of t...more

the Time-Traveling Fashionista will likely find its target audience readily, namely tween girls who love fashion with a touch of mystery. It's lightweight historical fiction with a sprinkling of fashion and a twinge of romance. 2 mysterious old women are the purveyors of vintage fashions and have the ability to sell an article of clothing that sends its wearer back to the time when the garment would have been originally worn. The wearer assumes the identity of the original owner. While others se...more

The Time- Traveling Fashionista is a fun middle grade read with absolutely stunning illustrations that will take you back to the early days of Vogue magazine. As a young girl I was fascinated by the Titanic as well as history so this book would speak right to me teen heart. Louise transforms from a seventh grader to world famous actress with just the switch of clothes and is magically transported back into time. She finds herself in all kinds of predicaments as she is wearing someone else's iden...more
When I saw the cover of this book I was in awe. Look at it! That cover is gorgeous! I flipped around the pages a bit and found out that this book also has a lot of pretty illustrations of dresses and some other things scattered throughout the book. I grabbed it off the shelf of the library and checked it out. I was a little disappointed though.

I was quite excited for this book, I really loved the whole plot idea of going back in time to the Titanic disater, which isn't like any other book that I've read before. I opened up the book and was quite surprised that there was coloured drawings with the story, which I haven't seen since I've read childrens books. I thought the drawings were a nice touch to the story, that you get to see for yourself what the author is conveying.

I give this a three because 12-year-old Shannon would give it a three or maybe even a four. Twelve-year-old Shannon was desperate for historical fiction. She longed to figure out how to dress like people of the past -- vintage shopping wasn't a hip trend in suburban Detroit. This book would have been perfect for her. She would have been inspired to create the wardrobe she always dreamed of, and she would have learned more about history in the process.

I read this as a preview for my girls, or else I'd probably never have picked it up. But the premise intrigued me. A dress that made you time travel? Combining fashion (something I am NOT interested in) with time travel fantasy (something I think is cool, thanks to Dr. Who)? I'll try it.
Perhaps if I were still younger, I would have appreciated the story more, but I feel like so much could have been done with the concept, but it wasn't. Questions I had came up a couple of times, things the write...more
