For journalist Dylan Alexander, it began with the discovery of a hidden tomb, thrusting her into the center of a gathering storm of violence and secrets. But nothing is as dangerous as the scarred, lethally seductive man who rises from the shadows to draw her into his world of dark desire and endless night.

Fueled by pain and rage over a shattering betrayal, the warrior Ri...more

I fell down the stairs because I was walking and reading this thing. They should add “HAZARD: So addicting, you may never put it down. (Watch your step!)” on the cover of these things! Despite my fall, I was able to save the page I was on, but failed to keep my coffee from spilling all over the floor. I spent precious reading time cleaning up at mess! But apart from my sore knee and the ruined carpet, I loved every moment of reading Midnight Rising!

Rio’s story reminds of a modern retelling of B...more

^^ MADRE DE DIOS, MUCHO CALIENTE!^^

So book #4 of the Midnight Breed series, I enjoyed it but I had my issues with the flow of the story. Don’t get me wrong it was really good as to be expected of Lara Adrian but there was just something about the time span between the couple that left me going “hmmm”.

So the Breed are warriors sworn to protect humans and civilian vamps from vampires gone rogue, which means they just cant stop from killing and sucking the human population dry. Things are about to...more

After a bitter betrayal by his Breedmate, Rio isn’t the same. Suffering from mood swings and blackouts, he knows he’s a danger to others. So when he’s tasked with destroying an Ancient’s hibernating chamber, he sees a perfect opportunity to end it all. Seven months later, he’s still trying to seal the chamber and end his life, when a woman stumbles into the cave…She’s a journalist, and her taking pictures of the glyphs on the cave walls, and Rio, spurs him into action, finally rousing him from h...more

WHOA! Another great read for my keeper shelf from Lara Adrian. I just finished this book and my heart is still racing.

Dylan Alexander is on vacation in Europe. Her mother is dying and it was her wish for Dylan to take her place on this fabulous trip. Dylan's always been a little different...she can see ghosts. But they're always young and always female. She sees one while hiking on her trip and it guides her to a dark cave while whispering, "Save him."

Rio is ready to die; no, he wants to die. He...more

In the first book of Adrian's Midnight Breed series, Kiss of Midnight, the seemingly happily mated couple, Rio & Eva, meet a tragic ending. Eva betrays Rio and the rest of his brothers in arms, bringing about her own death and leaving Rio severely scarred- emotionally and physically.

A short time later, where Midnight Rising picks up, Rio is tired of his miserable existence. At the end of a dangerous mission in the mountains of Prague, the Warriors discover an ancient, empty crypt which once...more

I was not sure how this book was going to go for me, because I felt like it might have been too soon to tell Rio's story. However, this was totally not the case as Adrian was able to bring Rio "back from the brink" and make things right for him in this book.

In this fourth book in the Breed series, the book opens by reminding us that Rio had stayed behind to deal with some unfinished business of the Order. However, it also reminds us how damaged Rio was due to a previous incident with his Breedma...more

Rio...oh Rio! I loved him from the beginning and when tragedy struck for him and he was harmed in a way that would have killed a normal human then to have his heart ripped out of his chest with betrayal along with feeling as though he is losing his mind. My heart hurt for him. I was so excited that he was going to get his happily ever after.

Dylan comes across the hibernation chamber where Rio is at, where he has been for a while. He stayed back after the guys all went back to Boston because he t...more

4 stars, though admittedly this one took me a little longer to get into. I have loved Rio since the first one and really felt for him throughout the series and I was super excited to get to his story, but it honestly took me until about the 30% mark before I was like "Yes! I can't put it down!"

Characters

Rio is one of the more heartbreaking characters, his mate betrayed him in a horribly selfish attempt to keep him all to herself and he almost died, and he genuinely wishes he had. He's not the

I've been looking forward to this one since book 1!

This is Rio's story, and for a girl who loves a tortured hero, Rio's story did not disappoint!

Rio was almost killed in an explosion that left him badly scarred emotionally and physically. He has sequestered himself inside a cave and is contemplating suicide when Dylan "happens" upon the cave. After being betrayed by his former breedmate (now deceased), he is leary of females and especially of love.

Dylan was a tough character, and to be honest, I...more

This is the 4th installment of The Midnight Breed series. Here we have Rio's story. In the earlier books, Rio's breedmate betrayed both him and the warriors resulting in Rio's face and part of his torso becoming scarred and disfigured. It's also left him very disturbed both mentally and emotionally.

Again, Lara Adrian delivers a wonderful book. Not only is it wonderful in that it tells a beautiful story for one of her many amazing characters (ie, Rio), but also in that it's a great continuation o...more

WOW! This series just gets better and better! I loved this book!

Midnight Rising tells the story of Rio, the most scarred and tormented member of the Breed. A year after a brutal betrayal which left him physically traumatised and emotionally wrecked, Rio is on the verge of suicide when Dylan Alexander literally stumbles across him. When Dylan sees something she shouldn’t and then takes off, it’s up to Rio to track her down and fix the problem. Oh, and what do you know, she bears the mark of a bre...more

NOTE TO SELF: Do NOT continue this series. No matter how much you are tempted when you want to listen to some PNR in audio, please learn your lesson. After 4 books, it's the same bland plot over and over. It will NOT improve so please get it in your head.

Like the previous book, this one was bland, with a couple that fell in love out of nowhere. Worse, Rio got over the betrayal of his previous mate too easily. I would have thought that it would take him years for him to trust another woman again....more

5 stars - Vampire Romance

This is perhaps the best love story in the Midnight Breed series. I really loved the Breed warrior Rio. He is an anguished, tortured soul, but also sweet and loving. The relationship between Rio and Dylan is believable and well developed, and I found myself very anxious for them to find their HEA. Another great read in this awesome series!

I loved this story so much. There wasn't much other than Rio and Dylan's story, but I think it needed to be that way since Rio was able to find love so soon after Eva. Lara Adrian pulled this off beautifully.
Lady Allison
Rio has been betrayed by the woman who was supposed to love him most in the world. He survived a bomb designed to kill the leader of the Order only to wish he had perished instead. After finding the cave of The Ancient emptied, the warriors task Rio with destroying the entry so that no one else can find it & learn their secret. However, he is so lost in his misery he decides to close himself in when he blows it up...yet, he can't quite do it.

Months later, a reporter, Dylan, is guided to him...more

4.5 to 4.75 stars! Really great turn in the series. My favorite story so far.
Rio and Dillan have a lovely story; the vamp world has a new enemy!
Full thoughtful review to come.
Here are just a few quick thoughts upon finishing Midnight Rising:

So far I've liked this series enough to listen back to back. I've felt that Midnight Breed series was a solid 4star series. The series is quite addictive. In just a few days I've read the first 4 and am about to start part 5.

This particular book was the...more

Rio is a Breed Warrior ready to give up on everything and everyone, including himself, after over a year of futile attempts to recover from severe injuries to his body and mind after a betrayal that hurt not only him but also the entire Order of Breed Warriors he once embraced as his family. He is suicidal and full of self-hatred and doesn't care about anything anymore except for ending his sufferable life. But then a journalist stumbles into the assignment his fellow Warriors left him to handle...more
The Window Seat
Sigh. To me, there is nothing worse than potential squandered. And that is, unfortunately, where I see the Midnight Breed series headed. Rio's story was a big disappointment for me....

Let me sum it up. Rio is a Breed warrior whose Breedmate, Eva, betrayed him then committed suicide. Her betrayal was to try to get him away from the Order and so she could have him all to herself, but when his life was jeopardized, she outed herself and that cost her his love altogether. In response, she killed her...more

I thought I wasn't going to like this book, because I wasn't really interested in Rio. In the previous books he was so far gone into his madness that I thought he would be too difficult or painful to heal. I was pleasantly surprised by his resilience, by the way he was able to keep himself in check, even during his darkest moments.

I think Dylan was a good heroine, a perfect match for Rio. Their relationship deepened with slow delicacy. There were too many moments when the same feelings kept comi...more

Fourth book in the Midnight Breed series.
This book wasn't my favourite in the series but I am head over heels for Rio so he more than made up for it.
I was so upset to read about how badly the explosion has affected Rio's life in the last book that I couldn't wait to read from his POV. He's so angry and his self esteem is at an all time low. So much so that at the beginning of the book, he is planning his own suicide.
I really liked Dylan. Her humour could be a little annoying at times but...more

Book #4 and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Lots of "stuff" going on in the Breed world. (Oh my) As I read more into this series, I started enjoying it more. Characters develop well; they touched me. This was Rio and Dylan's story and the series should be read in order because Rio was the Warrior who was betrayed by his mate in an earlier book.

I had to grab the kleenex with this one! This books has some very sad parts and I want to mention cancer is in this book, too. Some people don't like to read ab...more

I liked Midnight Rising and I'll read the 5th installment that comes out in December. It's fun fluffy reading, I wasn't terribly attached to Dylan or Rio, but the action was good. A good escape.

I read a comment a while back that it the 1st book is very different from 2-4. After reading 1-4 I totally agree. Kiss of Midnight has more rituals and history where as the other 3 are more action packed sans rituals. They aren't different in a bad way, but nevertheless different. I wonder if Adrian writ...more

this one didn't have the action level of the previous ones, but I liked it alot anyways. I think we needed to see Rio heal before we could see the rest. And I liked how Eva's ghost had a redeeming quality. But now we know that the ancient evil is breeding and Dragos' son is in the picture, and I'm sure falling over the dam didn't kill him. I'm interested to see how they not only find the Ancient One, but how they kill him and Dragos.
