A husband arrives home late one night to discover that his wife is missing and their four-year-old daughter tucked safely in her bed. He doesn’t call the police for several hours, a failing which immediately raises red flags for Sergeant D.D. Warren. As Warren and Detective Brian Miller go through the house, D.D. feels that something is off. Something is too perfect. In Lisa Gardner’s third book of her D.D. Warren series, The Neighbor, Gardner takes us through a scenario that definitely is not M ...more

My first Lisa Gardner novel, which I was excited to read due to hearing good things from friends. Whilst I enjoyed this one, I wasn't bowled over. This author seems very on top of her research, which was evident in her detail of the horrible world of childhood sexual abuse, I left the story feeling like I knew a lot about the murky area of rehabilitation and parole, and how these offenders are expected to enter programs, and the vigourous expectations of the attendees. This was interesting readi ...more

Wow what a great read and another classic from Lisa Gardner Detective D.D. Warren series. The story of a seemingly perfect family, the loving couple Sandra and Jason Jones and their four year old daughter Clarissa. Everything seemed fine with both parents working and with plenty of money life was good till one night Jason comes home from work to find his wife is gone.

Once D.D. Warren and her partner Brian Miller get the call for the case it seem's obvious Jason has killed his wife as he seems mo

Reading this book was like having a 300+ page long conversation with an annoying friend who hints at something she knows that you don't know and is just DYING for you to ask, but you don't. So many overt allusions to "what happened on the vacation" blah blah blah that I really stopped caring to find out. If not for that little percentage bar on the bottom of my kindle mocking my struggle to finish this book, I would have given in to my disinterest and stopped about 1/4 of the way through.

Wow! Detective DD Warren has her hands full with this one! Sandra, her cute little 4 yo daughter Ree and husband Jason, live a seemingly perfect life together in a cosy little bungalow. Jason is a reporter for the local paper, while Sandra is a school teacher. Between them they look after Ree, with no other family around at all.

Then Sandra vanishes without trace, while Jason is at work one night, and the only person in the house when he arrives home from work at 2am, is little Ree, sound asleep

Só o título deste livro é chamativo. A capa ajuda a pegarmos nele. A sinopse. .

This is my third Lisa Gardner book in a row. And it is also the third straight book that includes plenty of suspense mixed with many unlikely events that strain credibility. I have been captivated evidently by this series that undoubtedly began its life in startling covers on grocery store book racks. This book is part of the Detective D. D. Warren Series, a series notable for the fact that Detective Warren plays almost no role in the first two books and has a relatively minor role in this third ...more

The story begins with: 'I’ve always wondered what people felt in the final few hours of their lives. Did they know something terrible was about to occur? Sense imminent tragedy, hold their loved ones close? Or is it something that just happens?'

Lisa had my attention, and the further I read into the book I found it hard to put down. Both the husband Jason, and the missing wife Sandy had secrets, subtle hints were revealed as to what they might be, which kept me turning the pages, as I h

This strange, awkward little mystery starts off well enough. It's a compelling puzzle, and for a long portion I'm completely invested in finding out what's going to happen and am intrigued by the unusual behavior of several of the characters. But it goes on too long without any answers and after a while I'm wondering if the writer has dug herself too big of a hole that she's not going to be able to get out of elegantly.

Sure enough, when the the question we've been waiting to have answered is fi

Oh my goodness, this book had me guessing till the end. I could not put it down. Fantastic story.

This is the third book in the Detective D.D. Warren series. And my first time reading Lisa Gardner. Lately, I've always said that I wouldn't start a book in the middle of the series, always from the beginning but I had to read this. lol Glad I did. It was in the third person and not a lot of point of view from D.D. And I didn't get that much insight into who she was as a cop. Some I did but not much

Interesting to be reading this book in the season of "Gone Girl". Must be the year for the "wife goes missing, blame the innocent hubby" plot. Interesting plot twists and turns kept me guessing and skillful talent in keeping the suspense ratcheted up. A few less than credible resolutions toward the end but an enjoyable read.

Sandra Jones puts her daughter, Ree, to bed and goes to her own bed. Then she hears a sound coming from the stairs...When her husband, Jason, comes home from his night shift job at the newspaper, Sandra is gone.

Sgt. Detective D.D. Warren, last seen in Gardner's 2007 novel, "Hide" knows that the spouse is always the prime suspect when the other spouse goes missing or is killed. Now, when she attempts to interview Jason, he is uncooperative, almost nonshalant.

#3 in her DD Warren Series - I'm still having a problem getting into Lisa Gardner's head/style of writing. This book had me scratching my head just trying to figure out what the heck was going on. Red herrings, the odd mackerel, and I'm sure a trout were all thrown in the mix. And just when I thought I had all the balls lined up, one went in the gutter.

Anyways, a good puzzle for sure and now that I've read it, everything makes sense. Very different story line, but quite ingenious. Now I'm just h

I loved to read this book because Lisa Gardner knows how to keep the reader's interest. The suspens is big and each time you want to know the following events, a knew chapter begins with another part of the story. And again, at the end of the said chapter, when you are hooked, she begins another chapter to tell another side of the story. This trick is well known and much used but it works well : the novel is very thrilling and and I couldn't leave it until the end. Add to this, Lisa Gardner's bo ...more

I had a hard time connecting with the characters of this book. It seemed far more outlandish than any of Gardner's other books.

Jason Jones is a reporter for a Boston newspaper with a wife and daughter. The wife, Sandra disappears one evening and he is uncooperative, therefore becoming the suspect. There is a sex offender on the street who also is a suspect. You know Jones is hiding something big from everyone, but don't know what until the last pages, but he does love his daughter. Do melhor! Adorei!

My second Lisa Gardner book and I am completely hooked. I love the flow of revelations throughout the book that pull you deeper and deeper into the plot. I love the multiple suspects that are almost impossible to split. I love the twists at the end, and I adore her writing style. I have found a new favourite author to add to my growing list and I will be reading many more of her books in the year ahead.

4.0 out of 5 stars What happened to Sandra Jones?, November 10, 2009

This review is from: The Neighbor (Hardcover)
This is an entertaining, fast paced mystery thriller that delves into possibilities surrounding the middle-of-the-night disappearance of a young, pretty wife and mother. Sandra Jones, a teacher, vanishes while her husband, Jason, is at work leaving her purse and cell phone on the counter and her precious daughter, Ree asleep in her room. When the police arrive for the investigation,

Lisa Gardner Detective D.D. Warren series are very entertaining, fulfilling my need for escapism. She creates mysteries that are imaginative and intricately woven. The Neighbor does contain some flaws. I could do without the details of the Detective’s desire for an intimate relationship. It’s unnecessary and her manner is crude. The back-stories are lacking for some of the most critical characters. Finally, the ending is wrapped up to quickly; leaving ends loose causing me to want more. Neverthe ...more

This book was definitely a page turner. It was also a very suspenseful and exciting read.

However I can't like this book more than 3-stars. Mainly because the author did a great job of making her main character DD seem somewhat ineffective, while making her two main suspects really, really sympathetic. One of them I just plain felt bad for. The other I was rooting for like crazy because I didn't feel that he was guilty.

DD is supposed to be this crack sergeant detective. But during the investigat
