To me this story was about if no one else can accept you, you at least need to be able to accept yourself. Some parts of this story were hard to read but life isn't always easy. The sad thing is you can't pick your family and you have to learn how to deal with the one you get. I'm really glad Adrien and Frankie found each other. Another great read from Adrianna Dane
I originally got this due to the positive reviews I’d read. Unfortunately I couldn’t connect with the characters at all and struggled to finish this. It ended up feeling bland with overwrought prose and failed to engage me in the least. There are some really good moments of emotion and the elements seem to be there – Adrien’s tragic past, painful existence, Frankie’s warm love – but they never came together for me in any meaningful way. Instead they seemed like pieces that should work but just d...more

How far would you go to make your family happy? Would you be willing to sacrifice the very core of yourself? Photographer Adrien Langtry has been doing that for years so he won't upset his very conservative, very powerful, political family. He's been hiding who he is, living a double life, trying to "toe the line"; all in the efforts of getting love and approval from a family tha...more

Sometimes I wonder why so many good books have so few reviews?! Anyway, I chose "Public Lives, Private Pleasures" because I have always loved books about influential families, politics and people who feel obligated to live a certain life. Fortunately, Ms. Dane didn't disappoint!
First and foremost, I truly enjoyed authors's writing. She's quite eloquent, but not to the point of wanting to skip a couple of paragraphs, but more in the manner of being so true to life that you feel like you are part...more

4.5 stars A re-read to see if it holds up...
‘A night for fucking... the air was crisp...filled with the floral aroma of cherry blossoms...but the other odor he scented--the hint of cigarette smoke that lingered...that was the one that brought to mind skin filmed in sweat, sheets tangled. More in line with the afterglow of an extremely satisfying sexual encounter.’
Seductive and provocative...and we're off... Adrien, a D.C. senator's son, meets Frankie on a spring night and the physical pull betwe...more
Interesting characters, especially Adrien. He went through a lot, both off and on the page, as the black sheep of his politico family. It was exhilarating to witness his development, as he came to terms with the life he'd been living and the life he wanted. A story that could have been an overload of angst was instead even-handed, with a satisfying result. And lots of great sex.
