Dylan gives the police valuable clues that help them to find children's bodies, but she keeps the most personal information about these young victims to herself. Dylan has become used to withholding her sight abilities -- even from her be...more

Nicely written with a good touch of mystique, drama and friendship. Vrettos entirely takes away the romantic aspect—a good choice, considering a powerful heroine doesn’t need her manly sidekick of a boyfriend. A well developed protagonist, though a bit too friendly for my liking. I guess I’m the only one who thinks ultra-friendly people basically don’t exist. You can, however, be totally down to earth. Also, am I the only one who totally missed the explanation of why the Drifter killed all those...more

Fifteen-year-old Dylan is not like her friends, even though they have all grown up in the same small town on Pine Mountain. Since she was six years old she has had gruesome visions of murdered or kidnapped children, starting with the murder of a kindergarten classmate named Clarence. Only her mother and Officer Pesquera know her secret, and she helps the local police department find the bodies of the children. But her soul is heavy because she only finds the children when it's too late. How can...more

I'm not a teen but believe that this books is nicely written to teens. Vrettos seems to have her head in their mind sets. We can't explain why young people keep important secrets; family dynamics and secrets, worries about what other may think, fear of losing friendships etc. We adults know that teens hold many fears that we don't understand and often dismiss their validity when we should not. Adults often try to shield young people from awful things that happen. Unfortunately, we later learn th...more

This book didn't feel real. Most of the stuff that happened just made me go, "Huh?". At the beginning, I was pulled in. In the middle, it was really slow. Around the end, I was being bombarded with "wtf" moments. A lot of things happened that just didn't make sense, weren't explained enough to make sense, or were just really out of place. There were too many of those moments. It's okay (GREAT) to have things that surprise readers, but you have to EXPLAIN THEM. You have to make sure that they eve...more

Dylan had her first vision when she was in kindergaten. She saw her friend Clrence lying in the snow, a shadowy figure walking away from his lifeless body. The killer was never caught and every vision Dylan has had since then has been the same - Dylan sees dead children. She is always too late to save them and Dylan can only help the police find the bodies. Almost 11 years after Clarence was killed, a young girl is killed nearby and Dylan knows that "the drifter" is back.

I guess I have mixed fe...more

Sight by Adrienne Maria Vrettos was an overall "ok" book. But i must admit it was not what I expected it to be. 15 year old Dylan has been having visions since she was around the age of 5. Her first vision was of her kindergarten classmate, Clarence. She saw his body lifeless in the woods. Clarence had became a victim of the "Drifter" , a man who was never caught for murder. Since then her visions have helped police find the bodies of murdered children. When her best friend's little sister goes...more

For fans of Wake by Lisa McMann. 15 year old Dylan has "the sight". She has visions and not nice ones. When she was young she had a vision of her classmate that had gone missing and she was able to help police locate his body. Since then she has had other psychic visions but they are always too late - she can never rescue the victims in time. She keeps her talent a secet from everyone (except the police) and struggles to understand how to use it and what it means. When another child is murdered...more

"she wont ask me what i've seen scares me or if i think about those little kids and what it looks like when their faces go still. she'll do the same thing the whole mountain did about the drifter the same thing she did about my dad. she will ignore the facts that something bad has happened until shes so used to ignoring it, its like it never happened. " I think Dylan having these visions are bad but when she cant talk to her own mom about it,it makes it worst on her and her mother because i feel...more

I got conned. Sort of. I am a complete sucker for book sales, with the whole "50% OFF ALL ITEMS" or "$5.99 EACH". I was heading back to my home country in a few hours, and with a cheap budget flight, I ought to buy some personal inflight entertainment.
Imagine me finding this book for $7, with such exciting premise, smooth pages that bristles under my thumb, and wrapped in a pretty cover. Well, not so pretty. Mine looked like this:

The back cover said:

The Drifter took Clarence. And then disappear...more

I joined Halloween Read-a-Thon last 15, 16 and 17 of October and I end up reading 2 books, after all those busy schedule and get together with my parents. Now I end up reading all the entries I've entered and some books were not appropriate for Halloween, at least there are dying people all around the corner and good props for Halloween. Hehe.

What to expect. Expect more on the secrets behind Dylan's friends and of course her worst secret. At first I thought the story only runs from the Drifter (...more

So as an initial disclaimer, I should admit that I don't typically like suspenseful books. I like suspense in terms of the building of plot, of course. But I don't particularly like the whole someone-could-kill-at-any-minute kind of suspense. (I hate horror movies too.)

And this is sort of that kind of book. So I'd be interested to see if someone who likes those sorts of books likes this more.

Because I did like other stuff. I liked the friendships and Vrettos' style kept me turning pages. Still,...more

This book has a very interesting viewpoint. It's about a girl who starts having visions when she is 5 years old, and as she gets older she uses them to help the police in crime scenes. It upsets her mom, but both of them learn to live with it and see her visions as gifts rather than a burden.

This story was a little slow in the beginning, but as i read more it got better. I like how the main character isn't afraid to say what she wants or what she thinks because it makes the book funny and intere...more

This book was a much much better sort-of version of "The Bodyfinder", and this one came out 2007, which "The Bodyfinder" comes out 2010. Hmm. Anyway, so much more interesting as far as the main character's focus on her ability to 'see' when a child has died. She can see details of where they are, clothing, etc., and only her mom and the sheriff know about it. She has a close-knit group of friend in her 11th grade class who know nothing about it, but in the small mountain town they live, there ha...more

Do you ever wish you had a special psychic ability? What if it came at an unbearable cost? Dylan never asked to be different. She didn’t want this “special gift.” She certainly didn’t want the gift to start when she was six years old. Dylan’s gift is seeing abducted children and knowing exactly where they can be found. The problem is, she can only see them after they have died.

Dylan realized her gift for the first time when she was six years old. One of her classmates never came to class. Since...more

This book was definitely not what I was expecting. The cover was the reason I bought the book in the first place. It has a cool picture of an eye, that is a very cool color, and its white. I’m sure you see the picture some where on this review. So that is the reason I bought it, I didn’t read the synopsis or even have it recommended by a friend, which was probably a good thing. It wasn’t a bad book at all, hence the B- rating, it was just very different.

This story involves a girl, Dylan, who is...more

In this book Dylan a teenage girl sees visions of children. Not only children but dead children. This book goes through her life and how she lives with this problem and still manages to live a some what normal life. These "visions" have happened since she was just a little girl. When her mom told her dad he didn't know what to think and dissapeared. Later that night they found him dead at the bottom of their road in a ditch. Ever since then Dylan has made new friends and helped provent and tell...more

This book was about a teenage girl, Dylan, who has psychic visions and sometimes works with the police to solve child murders while trying to appear "normal" with her friends. A new girl moves to the small town and seems unaturally preoccupied with a child murder from years ago, and Dylan's best friend seems to know Dylan is hiding something and is slipping away from her. The book starts a little slow, but the story draws you in, and there are some twists at the end that make this a worthwhile r...more

Imagine that you could see things before they actually happened. But not only did it hurt you to see them, but the image itself was of some innocent kid dying.

This is what happens in SIGHT. Fifteen-year-old Dylan has been battling with these visions since she was little, and not even her best friend, Pilar, knew about it.

When Dylan was younger, a boy named Clarence was abducted and killed, and she had seen the vision. Now, that same killer is back in town,...more

Wow I didn't realise until I'd finished that Sight was written by A M Vrettos but I guess I should have known as the tone is very simular to Skin (which I've got sitting on my bookshelf). I thought it was really well written and covered the topics seriously but still in a way suitable for YA readers. There were loads of plot twists - omg Pilar!!! And Cate!!! However sometimes I found myself re-reading things to make snese of them

I would have given it 4 stars, but for a rather rushed and improbable ending. I'm not talking about the resolution of the main conflict, but about a twist introduced at the last minute that I really didn't feel was necessary. However, well written, and quite a good portrait of a community with some sympathetic adults as well as a close-knit group of friends. The slightly supernatural element was well handled and believable.

I had been impressed by _Skin_ and was completely intrigued with the premise of this book. Too bad the writing and story line didn't live up to my high level of anticipation. It's an adventure/mystery type, but there is no beauty behind the plot-driven story. While I enjoyed the dynamic between mother and daughter, I didn't buy into either character.

Overall, a disappointment.

Fifteen year old Dylan has psychic visions of the last minutes of abducted children's lives. She uses this secret power, which began when a kindergarten classmate went missing, to help local law enforcement find the kid's bodies. When Dylan tells new girl Cate her secret, Cate seems to develop an unhealthy interest in the missing children.
This book was not as good as I thought it was going to be. I liked the author's previous title (Skin) much more. The characters seem constantly overwrought em...more

An excellent pageturner about a high school girl who has The Sight: she sees visions of children in jeopardy, but only after they've died. She works with the deputy sheriff to try to find the kids' bodies, but reluctantly, because it's very harrowing for her. It first started back in kindergarten when one of her classmates went missing, and she saw a vision of him dead. She has very closeknit relationships with her 3 best friends, who do not know her secret, but then a new girl comes to school a...more

I loved "Skin," so I checked this one out from the library before Christmas break and was not disappointed. True to its title, "Sight" is about a teenage girl with the gift of seeing the future, particularly kidnapped children. A well-crafted narrative that's a mix of the "Sixth Sense" with a mystery thrown in. It was fascinating and eerie. Read it, Wendy!

I started reading this book after seeing the cover and reading the description and I got hooked by the first chapter. It went a little downhill after that. Not much happened and I was surprized after I had trudged through three quarters of the book and the main character hadn't used her Sight much at all. The twists were predictable and the ending wasn't clearly written or explained. I think the author just wanted to finish it and left out a few things.

Well written, but I was somewhat disappointed in how the author handled the ending (seemed too contrived for me). 15-year-old Dylan can see children just before their deaths. Police use her to help solve local murders. Plot revolves around murder of childhood friend ten years earlier, revenge, and figuring it all out.
Marya
Think Medium, but without the main character being a huge ball of estrogen.

Dylan can see dead kids when she closes her eyes (and thankfully, her friends have all seen that movie and make the obvious joke when the time comes). But when a new girl at school arrives, Dylan finds herself challenged to see the limits of her abilities.

There is a mystery in here, revolving around a serial killer of small children, but the main story is about Dylan's self discovery. Best line of the book: When Dylan is...more

Hellooooo there!
It's me, Adrienne. I'm the author of the just-released YA novel BURNOUT, as well as THE EXILE OF GIGI LANE, SIGHT, and SKIN.
This author picture is *exactly* how I look, ALL the time. I travel with a special lighting team to make me look dark and dramatic and like I'm always coming out of (or going in to?) the shadows.
