I must have purchased this after enjoying another of Bancroft's books. This one has some lovely details and interesting people. Our heroine is wonderfully headstrong and the hero has to remember what he likes about her. Julia's attempts to to into trade to save her husband's people was a bit much, but I liked the love triangle she sets up and most of how she resolves it too.
Blair Bancroft's book was rich with likable characters. I liked how the story progressed with the background details of military warfare and effects of England's industrial revolution on the estates during the book's time period. Bancroft's characters were well-developed and complex. I liked how the story progressed and the characters matured. It was an intriguing and interesting read. I recommend it!
Catching up on a lot of reviews means i wont remember the details of most books in this batch. I do remember liking this one, but I guess not enough for 4 stars (a re-read for me) or 5 (very fave). Bought on the strength of Ms Bancrofts The Sometime Bride (a 5 star romance for me)
Read as an ebook. Regency period but not a typical Regency book. Liked the characters and situations, which are both original, well researched, good romance.

Blair Bancroft is an award-winning author, multi-published in several different romance genres. Her eclectic background includes a career in music, with forays into editing and costume design. She wrote her first novel only after it occurred to her that her mother being a successful author didn't mean she couldn't be one too. Blair has traveled most of the United States and as far away as Siberia ...more
