I really enjoyed this book. The male lead is ultra sexy and definitely designed to be a heartthrob. The female lead is one that can easily be identified with - quiet, a bit insecure and waiting to be swept off her feet. It's great escapist reading.
The plot is straight forward with few twists but given the length of the story that is understandable. Similarly, the romance builds very quickly but that is to be expected in novella formats.

This was a great little romance about a girl and her were boyfriend. Only thing is, he's not a werewolf, he's a werepanther - in fact a black panther. One little thing about panthers is that they mate for life. So if the story of Cole and Victoria (aka Mouse) is going to go anywhere it will have to be for forever and always (including the ritual marking) .

Victoria is a loner, a book store owner, and an avid fan of paranormal romance. She pines for excitement and love ever since her tragic romance when a Freshman in college. Excitement finds her in the form of her witnessing an armed burglary and being saved by a mysterious, dark-haired stranger, Cole. Cole seeks Victoria out, and they start to form a relationship while the robber stalks Victoria in order to keep her quiet about identifying him to the police. Things about Cole don't quite add up,...more
I got this book free I think or 99 cents. I've had it a REALLY long time. At one time I read a great deal of PNR novels but over the past couple of years I have really lost interest in this genre and have gone back to my tried and true historical romances and mysteries. Since I am trying to read independent and small publishing company books for a personal challenge, I picked this one out. It's a short story/novella, only about 125 pages long.

It reads like another Twilight/Trublood. Except this time the focus is on the were creatures.
For an easy read and for some good sex - because to be frank the sex scenes were actually "well I never!" - read this.
There was a rather nice surprise though, throughout the story, Cole's identity coming out and Vic's feelings for him, there is a good plot.

I blame Barnes and Noble for this one. I only got it because it was free. And I should have stopped reading it after 2 pages, but insisted on finishing it, only because it was so short, and I'm also trying to reach a certain amount of books read. Shame on me. I give a bad name to readers.
Really, this book was so bad. Poorly written, totally formula driven, predictable, corny, and boring besides. "you can heat up the chinese food for breakfast...my college roommates did it, so it's not weird or u...more

First time ever reading Jan's work and will definitely be looking into more. Strong characters with a great hot alpha male that can make a woman swoon!
Vic is basically just living. Almost in a robotic sense of routine. Wake up, feed the cat, shower, work, home, etc. She has been alone (except for her cat Mister) for many years, not having any intimacies or friendships. One side trip to a gas station changes all of that for her.
Cole is new to town. He has many secrets and knows what it is like t...more

My first read of a paranormal Its was just ok. I knew exactaly where the read was heading. The only reason I was engroused in the story line was to fine out when Vic would put two and two together to get Cole. Its so obvious I beleive most readers would be pissed that it takes that long for her to know the truth about Cole. Then the story gets fast paste with a whole lot of NOTHING. My oppinon. I wonder if she's thinking about a series if so please read your readers comments and don't forget to...more
There were so many things I loved about this story - but the one thing I didn't like is that it ended a bit anti-climacticly, and it was too short!!
The character development was lovely, and the mundane details drew me in and made me wish that there was more length to this story. As an avid bibliophile and animal lover, I was instantly familiar with the female protagonist, who is addicted to great paranormal romances and spending time with her cat.

I do not recommend this book for anyone under the age of 18 because it gets pretty racy and graphic in some parts. This was a Harlequin type romance freebie, and since I don't generally like romance books, I was skeptical about how much I would like the story. However, I was pleasantly surprised and I really enjoyed it. A combination of romance and supernatural written by a first time author, I have been eagerly awaiting another novel, but Jan Gordon hasn't yet published again. The story flows v...more
I liked this story but I found it to be more about the sex and less about the couple.
Also one of the most exciting things happened in the last chapter and it was not explored seriously, I found this to be a let down. Maybe in the next installment the author could fully explore this new development.
This book would be good as the beginning to a great series about these two people and how they traverse a world not ready to invite them in and how they traverse the main character's own misgivings abo...more

This was a book I downloaded almost a year ago and for some reason the mood never stuck me to read it.... which now I feel is super stupid cuz it was a short story really and actually very good!! I loved victoria she was a loner with one bad experience that really just crushed her with men, and then this stunning man comes along that is just kind of weird like her and they hit it off. I would have like a better plot to the end about her because if she was able to do one thing why not the others,...more
Liked this one for what it was, just a short romantic story with a paranormal twist. I loved Cole but is there really a guy out there that can be SO understanding? Far and few between I would think. Their romance and life-long committment occurred in just a week. I have heard of love at first sight, but think it is a rare thing. But after all, this was not real life and so I just sat back and enjoyed what I read. It is a short read and I wish there had been a little more written about after they...more

I'll just do a quick recap of the basic details...
We have Victoria/ Vic, who owns her own used books store and her own home. She is quite happy with her life but is maybe looking for a little more excitement in her life!
On her way home she stops for petrol and sees the man behind the counter being held at gunpoint...
In comes Cole! He hides her and somehow manages to scare of the gunman. Upon leaving the gunman nitices that Vic...more

I read this a few months ago, and I don't remember large portions of it (always a bad sign). I honestly feel ashamed about it. I didn't realize at first (silly me) that this was a sex flick. But it is. I skipped all that, and then found myself facing the back cover (well, alright, there was a LITTLE plot.) So let's review this (minor spoilers, but not enough to warrant a tag, I don't think):
1. "Average"-looking girl main character (who I think is even bored with her life).
2. Gorgeous boy with "m...more

The word little describes this book perfectly in so many ways, and not in ways that would seem to come to mind with the word.
First of all, A little too fast. A fast paced book isn't necessarily a bad thing at all, but this moved a smudge past way too fast. The main characters don't know each other for more than a few hours and you already know the main character Cole has fallen for Vic, the small town quiet shop owner. From that point things go off and move way too quickly on to something physic...more

Damn you Barnes and Noble!!! Tricked into reading chic-fic disguised as urban-fantasty. Oh, who am I kidding they are pretty much over lapping these days. So... Ok, stop here if you don't want to read the spoiler. Although if you have half a brain you could figure this one out in the first 2 pages.
I like the concept of weres and I get the idea, after repeated explanations, that they have an animal side that they fight against. This, I'm sure replaces the bad-boy type that normally appear in the...more
