David R. Hawkins details how anyone may resolve the most crucial of all human dilemmas: how to instantly determine the truth or falsehood of any statement or supposed fact. Dr. Hawkins, who worked as a "healing psychiatrist" during his long and distinguished career, uses theoretical concepts from particle physics, nonlinear dynamics, and chaos theory to support his study o...more

Recommends it for: truth seekers
This is the most significant book I have read in a long time. Power Vs. Force explains the connection between individual levels of consciousness and human behavior.

This is important because every decision we make and every action we take is driven by our individual level of consciousness.

Dr. David R. Hawkins uses Applied Kinesiology as a tool for doing consciousness research. Using Applied Kinesiology, he developed a map of consciousness that ranges from 1 to 1000. According to consciousness r...more

This is an amazing book that details, (from subtitle) "The Hidden Determinants of Human Behavior". It is engaging to peek into the psychology, both conscious and subconscious, of the underlying behavior patterns and choices made throughout life. Yes, you may find this book on the self help shelves (shudder!), but in this case, it will actually help many of us to overcome negative behaviors, converting them into positives. As I like to say, we can all use less "nega-thought" and more "posi-though...more

I love delving into the inexplainable and the unseen. My entire life I have been on a search for truth, trying to decipher the good from the bad. This book makes it into the good pile. I'm eagerly waiting to try out kinesiology and see if it works as described in the book.

This book focuses on the deciphering what is true and what is false through applied kinesiology. I must admit it seems absolutely unscientific, the technique itself is very controversial. Through applied kinesiology the author...more

This is a unique book - I’ve never read anything like it before.

The book is worth reading for the preface alone. Here Hawkins discloses his various awakening experiences, beginning at the age of three. At one point, when caught in a blizzard, he enters “a state of peace beyond all description … accompanied by a suffusion of light and a Presence of infinite love”. This was indistinguishable from his own essence. Later in life he enters a permanent state of bliss. He was “an instrument of the Infi...more

This book is over-hyped by people who should know better. It supposedly proves that you can tell the truth of something by how much resistance your body puts up ("applied kinesiology") when someone asks you a yes or no question. They say "are you hungry?" and try to push your arm down, and if it holds firm, that means, "yes, time to eat." If your muscles react weakly and your arm falls to your side, that means "dude, I'm stuffed." What?!

Does that sound plausible? No. Common sense says, "this is...more

This is an excellent book that speaks of the difference between power and force. Power is quiet and requires no explanation. Force is coercive and creates an automatic counterforce.

This has great applicability for couples, parents and bosses. Standing on the side of truth, justice and all that sustains life is power. This is strength of its own merit. Force represents all that is negative and life destructive.

Whenever you attempt to make someone do something that they don't want to do, you are a...more

Disclaimer: I read this for a friend, and tried very hard to give it a fair read. And in fact, the primary cosmological argument wasn't as crazy as I suspected, although with all the benefit of the doubt, the epistemic and axiological implications are still dumbfounding.
PvF is not really the self-help para-spirituality that it seems on hearing a review. For instance, Hawkins never gets close to explaining how you can use consciousness to financially invest better, giving credence to his purity...more

Power Versus Force may be the most acute study of the levels of consciousness. Dr. Hawkins is a master of science and spirituality, which is too rare of a combination. His synthesis of these two branches of inquiry provide insights that neither mere science nor esoteric mystical text can provide.

Hawkins' Map of Consciousness offers a context for understanding how people, cultures, religions, and texts aid or hinder the path. Using muscle testing, Hawkins calibrates various myths, truths, and so...more

Under his scientific kinesiological system (testing muscle reactions to good and bad stimuli), Hawkins rates human traits on a numeric scale. Most of us (85%) are below 200 because we focus on survival and are preoccupied with negative thoughts and feelings. Those that are in the 200-500 range are increasingly humanitarian in orientation. Descartes, Freud, Einstein were rated at 499 - how they were measured, I can't say right off). Hawkins says currenly that only "twelve persons on the planet" c...more

Dr. David R. Hawkins encompasses particle physics, nonlinear dynamics, chaos theory, and his own discoveries about the nature and accessibility of truth.

"Power vs. Force" is the foundation of Dr. Hawkins' large body of work.

I met the Doc at a lecture in 2004, at the Unity Church, in Novato, California. He was giving a lecture on his book, Power vs. Force, and it was so powerful-- I sold my home and took off around the world with a backpack to stand in Holy sites, which Hawkins said had a trans...more

This book shapes worldviews.
The information presented in this book ranks among the most influential in my entire life. It is clear, reproducible, verifiable, and significant. I don't know what I can add to what others have already said about it. However, if you have stumbled upon or have been drawn to this book in some way before, but have not read it yet, please hesitate no longer. Read it if you will.

Picking up this book was probably one of the best things I have ever done for my own growth and development. Hawkins was my mentors mentor and was quite prolific in his own right. I found this book to be mentally invigorating and spiritually resonant. My favorite books are the ones that change the mind of the reader, thereby changing the way they view the world. This book took my stagnant lens and turned it around and around until I found myself viewing a world I had glazed over with mis-creatio...more

This is a book the shaped the way I look at everything in life dramatically. It's about what power is, in the sense of, what really affects and changes life, human behavior, and experience of the universe. Here Dr. Hawkins introduces his intelligent Scale of Consciousness.
Rebecca
This book gives you a clear sense of where you are in the Universe and what you are bringing to it- hugely enlightening- and I now use the map of consciousness daily- this book was fantastic in so many ways it was worth reading to step up another level of empowerment.
Melissa
EVERYONE should read this book. Facinating. The author has come up with a "scale" to test levels of consciousness. Anything below 200, is considered negitive energy and will prevent one from moving forward in life. Amazing. I will re-read this one over and over.

wow! so much to take in. amazing though!

powerful book!! i might actually have to read this one again.
and i rarely feel that a book is actually worth it to do that.

highly recommend. :)

There are lots of things to like about this book, especially the fresh perspective being offered on matters that have been written about before by so many people with so many different views. I've read enough books so it's unusual to find one with a substantial quantity of new information about these topics. Plus the clarity of the writing is very good, given the complex topic being discussed. Whether you agree with everything he says or not, it can be a very thought-provoking book.

This might be a 5 star book but my reviews are stingy today ;-)

What I found of immense value here was 1) the evolutionary scale of human consciousness (which maps well onto the Abraham/Hicks emotional guidance scale) 2) the very clear discussion of how the context of one's state of consciousness strongly affects the creation of meaning/truth for that person 3) the very extensive discussion of very high states of consciousness by an author who has achieved enlightenment.

You don't need to worry a...more

A tough read at times, but many interesting and enlightening concepts. I think it warrants a re-read just to really wrap my head around the subject. It focuses primarily on defining power (which is intrinsically good and destined to succeed) and force (which is intrinsically "bad" and destined for failure). It explores many spiritual concepts of "good" vs. "evil" and how we physically respond to "good" or "bad" elements regardless of our views or belief systems. It discusses differences in "spir...more

When you hear the details about this book, you might think I’ve gone "over the edge". If you have no interest in the "metaphysical" or spirituality, this book review and this book may not be for you.

If you are open-minded about spiritual subjects and the application of spiritual sense to business and everyday life, you might find this to be the most important book you have read in some time.

I would give this book 6 stars if I could...10 even! Dr David R. Hawkins provides the certainty that there is truth; immovable unspinnable and accessible to us all using scientific principles.

We all experience that deep knowing at times in our lives, but frequently our cultural teachings (oxymoron?) blind us from truth. Well the amazing human nervous system it turns out is connected to the collective consciousness and this book provides methods developed over 30 years of testing that will allow...more

Recommends it for: awakening people everywhere
I was amazed as I read this book that so much of what I have begun to see on my own has been validated by Dr David Hawkins well developed and documented techniques. I am certain that I have grown more than his estimated 35 points by simply having read this book, as I went into it with a lot of momentum from having just read previously, The Power of Now, and several books by Gregg Braden.

This book has inspired me to help make my own contribution to the awakening of the consciousness of the world,...more

I loved this book, it really kicked me into finding out more about the tests he uses, I am an EFT therapist and I do talks on removing issues that stop us moving forward. I found this book to be very helpful and I use the techniques he uses to find issues in peoples lives.

The premise of the books is lovely. You can determine collective truth by a simple kinetic muscle test and everyone in the world places on a non linear conciousness scale from < 0 to 700??? I think the most complementary I can be about its ideas which a tightly infused with the authors personal and emotional revalations, is to say that it is indeed 'new age'.

I shouldn't waste to much time writing a review, this book was self published mostly because it is nonsense and hopefully won't influenc...more

This book has a profound influence into my life even if the language is not easy at a first time. This book now, is in a revised edition, that include many of Dr. Hawkins' spontaneous oral revision to the texts. This revised edition is include the later calibration of many subjects, including religious groups, scriptures or writings. This book brought the linear world of logic to the non-linear realities of love, joy, beauty, and enlightenment. The world really need this book. Gloria in excelsis...more

Heavy read - but it WILL change the way you understand social psychology/sociology forever. We're talking quantum physics here, People. And when you finally see the difference between Power and Force - their constant tug-of-war over the masses, it leaves you no choice but to try to raise your "level" immediately to one capable of bringing more Power to the world.

Interesting and significant hypothesis is put forward in this book. Dr. Hawkins co-authored the work "Orthomolecular Psychiatry" with Nobel Prize winner Linus Pauling. This book may be the most important book I've ever read...I'm half way through and I'm finding it sooooo powerful in terms of application to my life.
Everyone, read this book!!

This book is amazing, and I reference it almost daily in my thoughts. I will be quite honest, this book hurts my head! It is NOT a fast read, and in truth I have never completed it. I have read it in bits and pieces over the course of 5 years.

This is a very deep book. If you like to consider new ideas and new possibilities this is for you. I liked it a lot. Any book that moves me to change for the better I like, and this is definitely one of those.

“If, as has been said, man learned to lie an hour after he learned to talk, then a phenomenon such as the one we’re discussing would be the genesis of the most fundamental change in human knowledge since the beginning of society; the transformations it would wreak—in fields from communications to ethics, in our most basic concepts, in every detail of daily existence—would be so profound that it is difficult to even conceive what life would be like in a subsequent new era of truth. The world as we know it would be irrevocably changed, right down to its very roots.” 0 likes
