The personal essay genre is really doing it for me right now. I think it’s because working two jobs and raising a family takes away a lot of my reading time. It’s great to get a fully formed story and argument in the time it takes for a load of laundry to finish in the dryer.

“What Happens When People Stop Being Polite” is an essay from a larger work, “Sex, Drugs, and Cocoa Puffs.” In it, Chuck Klosterman describes his life in the early 1990’s as a young adult living and working in North Dakota.

Charles John "Chuck" Klosterman is an American pop-culture journalist, critic, humorist, and essayist. He was raised on a farm near Wyndmere, North Dakota and graduated from the University of North Dakota in 1994. After college he was a journalist in Fargo, North Dakota and later an arts critic for the Akron Beacon Journal in Akron, Ohio, before moving to New York City in 2002.
