Alise has been in love with Mac since she moved to New Eden, Washington. Unfortunately, the sexy attorney considers her a friend...and not one "with benefits". Just as Alise decides unrequited love is for fools and poets, a freak thunderstorm plummets the town into darkness and traps her with the man who has starred in her every erotic fantasy for the past year. A blackout...more

I found this to be an average read overall. This is a short story as others have mentioned; however, since the Kindle app for PC doesn't display page numbers (what the heck is up with that? that's one of the reasons I will never buy a Kindle), I can't offer any estimate of how many pages/words the story actually comprises. But it's not a very long read.

Alise and Mac have known each other and been friends for fifteen months; they each have the hots for the other but haven't revealed that to the...more
There are a lot of negative reviews for this short story and I really don't know why. Yes, the novella (used very loosely) is a little less than 31 pages, but that is no reason to trash the story. Simone's writing is very pornographic - I'm not certain I could take more than 31 pages. This is my first (used loosely) erotic novel and I enjoyed Simone's writing enough that I'm willing to pick up another one of her full-length novels in the future. I liked the characters and I felt like I learned q...more

McKenzie “Mac” Dunn and Alise Layton have a connection that far exceeds the stereotypical attorney/client relationship. Their liaison exceeds contracts and jurisprudence, and penetrates a realm more personal and emotional. Basking in the glow of her friendship, Mac was blind to the feelings she reciprocated. Her’s went far beyond friendship and straight into love. Their relationship was at an impasse when she announced, out of the blue, that she was ready to take the next step with her current b...more
This had an interesting sounding set-up, so I was disappointed that more wasn't done with it. Also the weird mix of raunchy and romantic made me snort a bit.

Today on Review Wednesday we have Naima Simone's erotic romance, Desire in the Dark.

It's storming in new Eden, Washington, and not just because of the rolling thunder and lightening outside of Mac Dunn's office. No, it's the petite sexy red-head sitting across from him that's causing the storm inside. She's just confessed to being abstinent for two years and now is asking for Mac to take care of her. How can he refuse his friend who is in obvious need?

Alise Layton has been in love with Mac since...more

Desire in the Dark by Naima Simone

Yes I’m going to look up more stories written by Ms. Simone. That’s how much I enjoyed this short story. Her writing style was smooth and flowed from one page to the next easily. The story felt complete in the 3 chapters that I read though more would have been good too.

Alise and Mac are good friends but just friends. Alise has a secret, she has had the hots for Mac for over a year and wants him in a big way. She wants to tell him how she feels but fears rejectio...more
ok sadly this short had so much potential but it just flopped. for such a short story the characters and motivation were well developed (compared to other shorts at least). sure the romantoc development could've been more fleshed out but that's always the case in these shorts. the sex scenes were hot but the reason I ended up not liking it is because the hero came off as a real jerk. he seemed like the type to treat a woman like dirt and I camt get behind that

A good sexy story. I really enjoy a book that can make you enjoy the characters even when the book is short. It is a difficult task for an author to make you feel for characters in such a short time. Good story.

When Mac finds out Alise has the hot’s for him, there is no holding him back. Just the description of Mac’s body can bring on a full body hot flash. There is definitely potential for a longer, more drawn out story with these characters, but it isn’t necessary n order to get the feel of the characters. Several back details are thrown in to make the romance believable. Downside is, the sexual language is not very creative, and comes off a li...more

I have to say this was good for being a short story.a bluff got called.yet it did not happen.your best friend can also be a forever love to.
3.5 stars because the super-short novella format is so difficult to master. This is currently free for the Nook, and I downloaded it for that reason alone, so I had pretty low expectations. I suffered through two other short-short's so bad that I'm not even going to rate them--immediate DNF. This was a nice little gem of a story with hot action, good characterization, believable dialogue and a satisfying conclusion. Be forewarned though--this is red hot sexy and that's the bulk of the story. If...more

Nice little short story.
So so so so so short. There is literally no substance at all to this story. You meet these two people and there is suppose to be real unrequited love, but you don't feel or really see it. Then bam, they are sleeping together, then BAM you get your HEA.

I get that these are Naughty Nooners and suppose to be really short, quick and sweet but this one felt more like erotica you'd find on a porn site, than an erotic-romance book that I expect from Elora's Cave.
This was a pretty good book. I liked the characters and the story line. There was some humor, steaminess, emotions, and a good ending. I wouldn't mind reading this again for a quick pick-me-up read or just for passing time. This is definitely a one-sitter and can be read pretty much anytime. Happy and fun to read, with some hot and heavy for spice. Enjoy
When I first got my Nook this is one that I downloaded for free and I still remember it is one of my favorite short stories. It is cute/hot/quick look into the beginning of a couple. And I felt it was complete. No need for more of a back story and no need to find out what happens later. Just perfect.
Very short, only about 25 pages. Its about a woman who has been fantasizing about her boss for a couple of years and has been afraid to make her move. However when a big storm hits and the two are forced to bunker down she gets her chance to make her dreams come true. Fast paced but good read!

I think the book was great. There were punctuation issues but they were minor. One thing I really disliked was Mac saying "sweetheart" over and over. It sounded creepy and perverted.

Other than that, the book was great, very vividly written :)

Although this was basically a PWP story, it surprisingly contained quite a bit of depth. Two people trapped in a storm, unrequited love and of course hot sex ... in a quick read! Read it as an appetizer .....
A very short read. I enjoyed it. Alise has been in love with her BFF Mac for a long time. Of course he never really gets the hint, but she has the courage to tell him her feelings during a power outage.
This was an ok story and to say the least, not as bad as some of the stories that I have read recently. I have to say, the love scene is steamy:-) But other than that it was just ok for me.
Contrived, unsexy and unromantic. Seems as if it was geared toward a male audience. That said, the writing had a nice flow to it and the book was nice and quick, so not much time was wasted on it.

This was just ok for me, but then again, it was a freebie so I can't really complain. Not going to cover this one for the blog, just something to read when you don't know what to read next.
I love free reads that make you forget they were free! This is a story about breaking out of the friend-zone and finding your HEA, all in one quick conversation and encounter - how cool!
HOT!!! and BOLD. Grabbed my attention and kept me there for the few minutes it took me to read this. If you are looking for something hot and quick, READ THIS.
This short story had alot of potential but fell short. The characters had no chemistry & I only finished the story to see if it'd get didn't

A very hot quickie, but complete with character dev and intriguing plot that of course, leads to fireworks. The writing was very tight. I loved it!

I was born the daughter of a sharecropper…okay, maybe not. But, I am the daughter of a pastor from whom I inherited my love of romance. The man can preach a mean Song of Solomon! (There’s that plug, Daddy! You can pay me later!)

Although my first book starred a cucumber named Fred, my first romance came several years later in the seventh grade when I wrote myself as a heroine opposite Ralph Tresvan...more
