Prepare for some classic damning-with-faint-praise.

This book is okay. There are mild smiles of recognition, occasional vague warm fuzzies, some confused "huh?s" Why I bothered to pick it up after the first one, I'll never know, because it is much of the same.

On the other hand, this book didn't irritate me the same way the first one did. Maybe I was in a better mood, maybe I'd gotten used to the style, I don't know. It's certainly not because it's substantially different.

But what is up with the r...more

Quick & easy read. many entries made me smile. Who doesn't love stepping on crunchy leaves or the sound of barely frozen puddles cracking when you step on them? I thought I was the only one that experiences a feeling of happiness while peeling that sticky glue off the back of your new credit card! Seriously, is there any feeling better in the world than when the hiccups stop? I think not. Any bigger feeling of accomplishment than when you place the last piece in a puzzle? Ummm...maybe only w...more

This book was AWESOME.

Literally. Flip to any page, any at all, and you get something awesome. Don't believe me? I'll flip to 5 random pages and write down the heading. 5 random pages to prove the awesomness in this book:

1. That one email account you use for all your spam

2. When two cookies melt together in the oven

3. Accidently doing something really good in sports

And this one especially applies to me since as a clumsy girl who is always the last to be picked, it is the best feeling in the wor...more

With his ability to put a smile in your spirit and the rhythmic cadence of his words, Neil Pasricha is a modern-day Dr. Seuss and master of showing, not just telling. What I appreciated the most about this book are passages like the following, which are on my "things that I've never experienced but reading this makes me feel like I have" list.

What a gift. (=

It's true that in a time of turning to a news channel and hearing about how the 13th homicide has occurred already (thank you, January 15th of 2011) and reading about disastrous weather wreaking havoc in third world countries, it's important to take a step back and think of all of the good things in the world. The awesome things that make every day just a little bit brighter.
I loved reading the Book of Awesome when I first discovered it, because it was a tome of things that I sat and thought, "O...more

The purpose of this book is right on target. The author puts forth a commendable effort in trying to focus on the small and positive things in life. I related to just about every “awesome” entry, and I found myself smiling as I recalled some of the universal happiness “truths” in this tome of thankfulness. Yes, I indeed enjoy: putting on my most flattering pair of pants, contemplating my Almost Name, eating cookies like Cookie Monster, and seeing shapes in clouds. However, I must now lower the b...more

This book is a quick, light-hearted read that attempts to convey a number of fun and/or interesting things that make you smile. Though I agreed with many of the "awesome" topics covered in the book, I felt the list belonged better as a series of tweets, facebook posts, or blog entries than an actual book. When I later learned that the author actually maintains a just such a blog, I felt I had been somewhat cheated. I honestly can't justify the list price, let alone the $13 discounted price for s...more

This was a great 'pick me up' book after Beautiful Creatures. I loved seeing how many things are really taken advantaged of within our daily lives. I will be doing a short review on my monthly wrap up later this month on my youtube channel - kwells7788

This is a great book to read, esp after a heavy and deep book so you can kind of screw you head back on and keep reading. I gave it a 4 star rating instead of five just because it was a little wordy for me. I feel like he has an amazing concept an...more

Neil has done it again! His Book of Even More Awesome delivers the same wit, charm, perspective, laughter and heartfelt warm-fuzzies that the first one did...and then some. You absolutely cannot go wrong by buying this book for yourself or as a gift for someone else. I can't help but smile when I read his work -- The Book of Even More Awesome had me grinning from ear-to-ear with the turn of every page. Buy it and delight in the amazing, uplifting and optimistic collection of even MORE awesome th...more

the "awesome" things in this book that i like best, by far, are the ones where the author tells a personal story about why they're awesome to him. the story about his 3rd grade teacher and their e-mail exchange years later was so great! even if you don't also have "that one teacher" in your past, that story had to make you smile. and the one about his friend, "the feisty little nibbler," who ate the tips of all the pieces of pie - that cracked me up. i would prefer many more of those and many fe...more

Following in the footsteps of The Book of Awesome: Snow Days, Bakery Air, Finding Money in Your Pocket, and Other Simple, Brilliant Things, this book is a laugh-out-loud pick-me-up kind of book. It's excellent when you're having a rough day and just need something to remind you of little things out there that are AWESOME!

I love the way Pasricha writes about each of these awesome things - he creates a whole scene or story about that one little thing. He makes a big to-do about it. The very last a...more

Who doesn't love remember the weekend is a long weekend? Napping with someone else? Waking up to the smell of bacon? The smell of Play-Doo? If you don't love these then I think something might be wrong with you. The Book of (Even More) Awesome had nothing but awesome things to bring a smile or a few tears and memories flowing back to me. It is always nice to have a reminder of the simple things in life or the reminder of events we once enjoyed and long forgotten. While reading this book I have n...more

Just when you think you’ve had enough awesome things, there comes even more awesome things! I absolutely loved the first book by Neil Pasricha, The Book of Awesome, so there was no question when The Book of (Even More) Awesome came out that I would get my hands on it.

The premise of the Awesome books is simple – it’s a list of the awesome things in our lives that a lot of people take for granted. Like stepping on that puddle with a thin layer of ice on top, or puppy breath, or maybe getting the a...more

it was ok (hence my two star review).
it's a fun book to read in a car (or something) because it's short and easy but I just could not sit and read this in my room. what I like about it is that we all have so much in common (in determining what's "awesome") than we think. practically everything he wrote about were things that make me happy too. but let's be honest, just reading the title was enough for me and that is exactly what I did. I flipped through reading just the title and leaving his sho...more

I love this book...a quick read and full of all sorts of "awesome" things to brighten your day.
Who doesn't love to kick that big chunk of ice off the mudflap? Or get the last bite of anything? Or start a road trip with a bunch of car snacks, mix tapes, the anticipation of reaching your destination, and best of all, an empty bladder? This book makes me smile.

I aboslutly loved the first one but the second one didn't quite live up to my expectations. It seemed too familiar, as if everything was being rewritten again and the writer was trying to recreate what he had in the first book. A mild case of second book syndrome. To put it simply, it was nice, but not what I was hoping for.

This book made me smile - something I needed to do because of the last two weeks. It was easy to read, and one of the benefits was the ease of being able to pick it up and put it down whenever I needed to go off and do something.

Neil Pasricha reminded me that I need to stop and take pleasure in the simple things of life. There are so many wonderful things around me, and I need to acknowledge them.

AWESOME!

I didn't read many of the stories behind the headings...usually I had my own thoughts/memories about the situation. But it really made me stop to think about what tiny things in life, if I stop long enough to notice them, truly make life sweeter. I wrote down some of my own things that are "awesome" to me.

I read all about this book from the Times reviews and decided to take a stab at reading it. Maybe I should gave read Pasricha's earlier book, but reading every story end with the word awesome just irked me. Some of what I read made me chuckle. But I would pick up the book and want to read it again.

While it is a good reminder that there is much to celebrate in each day, I did feel a bit hollow that most of it is rather what is awesome for us is just that - another meism. Maybe someone should write a companion book on 1000 things that bring you joy through doing things for others.

from the Acknowledgments section:
"To LUCK, thank you so much. I was lucky to be born healthy in a great country, have parents who loved me, teachers who cared about me, and friends who supported me. If you're reading this, maybe you're lucky too. Maybe we're lucky together."

Makes you smile to read it. I was trying to read all the paragraphs in the book but just reading the next awesome event or whatever was enough or me. His "deja vu" was clever. We need to slow down and appreciate everything.
Erin
This is a good book when you are feeling a bit blue but it isn't something you are likely to read from cover to cover in a single sitting. This is a good book for a gift to graduates or someone going thru a bit of a rough patch.

If you read Neil's blog this is a bit repetitive but still fun. I loved perusing the pages and reading all of the little bits and goodies of fun & daily things that we quite often forget bring us magic.
Renee
As much as I think the word awesome is SO overused these days - love the book! I've given it to my 12 year old daughter to read because its all about appreciating the little, everyday things.
Marian
Enjoy these books for the commonality of happy, positive simple bits of life to enjoy. Then freely give it on to someone else. First one of my goodread friends to respond to this can have both books-

The only thing I like about snow (esp. driving in snow) is when I get the chance to kick the big snow clumps off of the mud flaps of the car.

I'm so happy someone else thinks it is as awesome as I do.
Shreya=Drastically Random. Find the emoticon.
It taught me how to be thankful for small things in life without being all PREACHY like "BE HAPPY YOU ARE NOT STARVING! BE HAPPY YOU HAVE MONEY!" It taught me in a funny way.

Just like the first book ("The Book of Awesome") this one serves as a gentle and hilarious reminder of the finer things in life, the things we often overlook in our daily occurrences. I had great giggles in bed while reading this, and remembering awesome things of my childhood like my grandma's junk drawer (of which I have carried on the tradition and now have), road trips, and riding on my dad's shoulders. Overall, another AWESOME read that I'd recommend to anybody - especially if you're having...more

Neil Pasricha (Paz-REE-cha) never imagined that writing about the smell of gasoline, thinking it’s Thursday when it’s really Friday, or wearing underwear just out of the dryer would amount to anything. A self-described “average guy” with a typical 9-to-5 job in the suburbs, Neil started his blog 1000 Awesome Things, as a small reminder — in a world of rising sea levels, global conflict, and a trou...more

“The Surprise Attack. This is when you think someone scaring you will frighten the hiccups away. Of course, popping a paper bag behind you or clapping in your ear isn’t going to cut it. No, this only works when somebody shoves you off a tall skyscraper ledge into a properly rigged-up safety net forty stories below.” 7 people liked it
“Honey, have you seen my measuring tape?”
“I think it’s in that drawer in the kitchen with the scissors, matches, bobby pins, Scotch tape, nail clippers, barbecue tongs, garlic press, extra buttons, old birthday cards, soy sauce packets thick rubber bands, stack of Christmas napkins, stained take-out menus, old cell-phone chargers, instruction booklet for the VCR, some assorted nickels, an incomplete deck of cards, extra chain links for a watch, a half-finished pack of cough drops, a Scrabble piece I found while vacuuming, dead batteries we aren’t fully sure are dead yet, a couple screws in a tiny plastic bag left over from the bookshelf, that lock with the forgotten combination, a square of carefully folded aluminum foil, and expired pack of gum, a key to our old house, a toaster warranty card, phone numbers for unknown people, used birthday candles, novelty bottle openers, a barbecue lighter, and that one tiny little spoon.”
“Thanks, honey.”
AWESOME!”
