It reads like a bullet hitting bang on target. No messing around, strip away the usual vampire history or romance this story goes straight to the kill in POV mode chapters are divided by switching through the eyes of the prey and predators. Worst case senario to have is the turned let loose in a hospital with the young weak and old to feast upon, it's too late for Benny the Clown and Oasis the young girl, she wants candy now red candy. This is what the novel The Passage was missing just go More...

This review is dedicated to Steven's and Bridget's reviews, the reasons I even heard about this book let alone couldn't wait another second after I got my Kindle to read it.

The author, Joe Konrath (aka Jack Kilborn), writes in the introduction to Draculas that this is an attempt to make vampires scary again. As he explains, "There are no sexy teen heartthrobs herein." While it was the reviews above that got me to buy the book and start reading, it was that intro that had me s More...

4.5 stars. I was skeptical that a book written by four different authors telling a single story could be a good, cohesive read but I was wrong. This one was great. I am so glad my friend on Good Reads Stephen recommended it & that I had the sense to trust his excellent taste. Seat of your pants action of humans against truly scary (non-twilighty) vampires. Benny the Clown was particulary haunting;). Vampires as they should be written. I sure hope the authors choose to do a follow up. Wort More...

Ok, get excited: this book promises a no-bullshit horror gorefest, and that is exactly what it provides. It's a fun, exciting and even disturbing read.

I hear you: vampires is done but done to death these days, and a lot of that work is dull. Draculas never sinks to that kind of mediocrity, nor does it bore. The story picks up and runs from the get-go, and it doesn't let up for a moment. An exuberant, feral energy bounds through this story. Reading Draculas is like listening to an exce More...

If you're looking for a sexy vampire with any sort of redeeming qualities, you won't find it here. And this book is absolutely not for sensitive or squeamish readers. Draculas is a fast-paced, bloody mess of a story about the original type of bloodthirsty vampires who terrorized humans. Once you start reading, you won't breathe or smile much until long after you've read the last word.

The bonus material is fascinating, as we're allowed a glimpse into the process these writers went thr More...

A completely different and ingenious take on the vampire novel.

4 amazing authors: J.A. Konrath, Blake Crouch, F. Paul Wilson, Jack Kilborn, and Jeff Strand - each creating their own characters and following them through to the end - come together to create an absolutely amazing twist on the Vampire novel.

Mortimer Moorecook is a desperate and dying man. Willing to do just about anything to survive the disease that is ravaging his body. After acquiring the so More...

A little light on those insignificant little things like plot or character development, Draculas is still one wild, bat-shit crazy, over-the-top romp through what feels like a B-grade 80s gore-fest. More importantly, as the authors state in their introduction, this novel represents their attempt to reverse the 20+ years of sparkly, bare-chested, sexually ambiguous, romantic nonsense that's been injected into vampires and "make them scary again."

The vampires here are not cunni More...

When I think of horror I think of movies I watched as a kid like The House on the Haunted Hill starring Julie Merriam and The Legend of Hell House starring Roddy McDowell, both movies made me afraid of entering big houses. Dr.Jekyll and Mr. Hyde starring Fredric March made me afraid of mad scientists. Dracula starring Bela Lugosi and The Mummy starring Boris Karloff made me afraid of being in the woods after dark. After reading Bram Stroker’s Dracula in high school, a few of the fears I’d conque More...

When most people think of fun summer beach reads, they are thinking about a time-traveler's wife or the son of a zoo-keeper who ends up on a raft with a tiger.

Not me. I think of Draculas -- yes, plural.

Rather than me blathering on, here is a quick tease:

"A clown dracula. Wonderful."

It gets even more wonderful when the clown picks up a chainsaw.
Enjoy the tricks, kids.

This is not your daughter's vampire novel.

There are no pretty pale immortals, locked in a valiant struggle to overcome their bloodthirsty nature. The Draculas embrace their bloodthirsty nature. In fact, they revel in it.

And they're not pretty.

It all begins innocently enough when eccentric millionaire Moritmore Moorecook purchases the so called "Vampire Skull." After coming in contact with the fangs, he morphs into a hideous monster, right in the emer More...

Joe Konrath of A Newbie's Guide to Publishing fame posted an offer giving away free ARC's of an upcoming horror eBook he and three other authors wrote in exchange for a review here and on Amazon.com. I've gotten a lot of good info from Joe's blog, so I figured I'd do him a favor, read the ARC, and give him a favorable review. So much for good intentions…

A very bloody good time!

Want to get in the mood for Halloween? Get this book! DRACULAS is a crazy, no-holds-barred, totally over-the-top good time! It's a horror novel that delivers grotesque terror after grotesque terror at an unrelenting pace, yet it's also got humor galore. It's definitely not for the squeamish, but horror fans will delight - the gore-fest never wanes and there is a wild dose of insanity mixed in for flavor. This ain't your teenage vampire romance...
I hate what has been done to the Vampire myth. I read Twilight, I didn't hate the writing(or love it for that matter), I just quietly mourned another stake in the heart of this particular slice of the horror genre.

Vampires have become Fabio-esque love leads for the emo generation.

So I was hoping when I heard about Dracula's, that it was would be a return to the classic vampire; the evil, seductive, bastard that needs to be More...

Dracula's was AMAZING.

Take four talented authors, give each of them one main character, put those characters in a life or death struggle with visicous monsters, shake and serve... awesome.

Also no sparkly... no emo-goth... no tragegic count... these vampires are animals. Pure blood devouring fiends, so crazed they'll eat their own kind... hell they'll devour themselves if no other food is present More...

I may have to give my adrenal cortex a rest after this read! Being a fan of Jack Kilborn’s (J.A Konrath) book, Afraid and his collaboration with Blake Crouch, Serial, I knew there would be some twisted scenes that I would end up thinking about while staring at my ceiling trying to sleep. I really have to say that these two have given me some new adult phobias that I replay in my head begrudgingly.

Someone should send this book to Guillermo de Toro so he can learn how to write a vampire novel.

OK. Snide comment aside, DRACULAS is a can't-put-down, edge-of-your-seat, stomach turning gorefest featuring vampires ransacking a hospital. These are not your normal vamps and none of them sparkle. In fact, they are more like zombies; totally out of control with their appetites and, while needing blood, have no trouble taking bites of flesh or ripping intestines to get to the blood. I had just started reading the book and really didn’t have high expectations for it. As I got more into it, I realized that this was a really good horror novel and I needed to talk about it.

The book is Draculas and its a collaboration between 4 authors: F. It's hard to imagine any book with a more intense pace, more danger, or more excitement than the collaborative novel, "Draculas". This is a fascinating book concept where four authors choose a couple characters each and write a single story. Pace... relentless. Timing... perfect. Delivery... flawless. Anyone who enjoys the zombie outbreak/survive theme, or pitiless vampire genre, will have fun with this one. I figure Wilson did the cop, Clay, because of his gun fetish. Konrath (Kilburn) did Ronnie, cuz he's funny, Strand did the vampires, and Crouch did the outline, and the tightening of this work til it squeaks. There's no wasted filler here. Now, my guess could be wrong, because the story is seamless. No jarring differentiation of More...

Pros:
Lots of action and fast paced
Interesting premise
Very B movie schlock, over the top splatter for those that enjoy that.

Con:
To compressed
Too short for so many characters and so much going on.
Will annoy those who want more internal logic in their stories.

Let me start off by saying this book is bloody. It revels in decapitations, disembowelings, and dismemberments, and a couple of the victims are kids, so if that kind of stuff turns you off...st More...

I am excited to have finished this entertainingly overlapping vampire story—a true affront to the affected and emo vampires of late! Such an affront that were they even in the same room, Benny the Clown would dry hump Edward while flesh-stripping him! If you are feeling the Halloween spirit and ready for a crunchy, bloody mess to get things started, you’ve found the right book.

REVIEWS OF UNUSUAL SIZE ---- Review Of **DRACULAS** By Kilborn, Crouch, Wilson & Strand

---Re: This is an interesting book. Brainstormed by J.A. Konrath (writing under his Horror alter-ego, Jack Kilborn) and written tag team style by four generally well-respected horror and thriller authors, Draculas is a down and dirty re-imagining of the vampire legend. Draculas (or would it be Draculi? :)) is, as promised, a “balls-to-the-wall” wild ride. The concept is a recipe for terror, the collaboration is seamless, and the pace is mind-boggling. Unfortunately, I think it was a little too rushed to develop fully into what it could have been. Yes, Draculas packs some hard hits—but after a while, the punches start to feel like WWF big-time-wrestling instead of a real sock to the gut.

The “draculas” in the book are definitely not an original breed More...

First thing I have to say is that Draculas is a great book and I enjoyed it a whole lot. Usually I am a very slow reader, I like to take my time with books, but I simply devoured Draculas.
If you are tired of this new brand of vampire(the glowing in the light type) that has emerged in recent years, then you have to give Draculas a read. No more crosses, no more holy water, no more bs, just the elemental fear and loathing that a vampire outbreak can inspire.

A sickly millionaire purchases a skull unburied in Romania; a skull with giant teeth. In a fit of grandeur the man unleashes an ancient horror in his bloodline. Suddenly a blood borne pathogen takes over a small town hospital in rural Colorado.

The disease that takes over this place reminds me of a cross between 28-Days-Later and 30 Days of Night. Once contracted teeth begin to fall out, replaced by giant razor sharp teeth that tear apart the cheeks of the afflicted. The concept was com More...

I do not typically read horror novels, but I really enjoyed this one. Draculas returns the vampire to the scary shadows where they once resided. The authors did it in a way that I feel Bram Stoker would be proud. The four authors weaved a seamless gothic style horror story that takes place in the current century at a small southern Colorado town hospital. The writing was fluid and the characters were very real. I enjoyed the changing point of views from one character to another, and the aut More...
