Whoogles, these are people "who" "Google" odd things, such as "Can a do make a woman pregnant?" and other weird and odd searches that have been compiled. The authors entered into the Google search engine the start of what they are wanting to search and end up with odd answers that may fit the beginning of the search that is being entered. Some of the answers that come up are odd and completely out of this world, while others should be common sense or knowledge, while others are just plain dumb....more
Somewhere between a third and a half of these are pretty funny (personal favorite: "I would like to tape my thumbs to my hands to see what it would be like to be a dinosaur"), but considering the heavy dose of scorn the authors heap on regular people for having the temerity to ask Google something they don't know, the authors display breathtaking amounts of ignorance of their own. They don't know that the sentence "I am rubbish at maths" is perfectly well formed British English. They don't know...more
This might be one of the laziest books I've read. I did laugh, on occasion, but overall, it was the "jokes" of two people who have no understanding of different aspects of culture. One entry makes a joke about a statement including the phrase "rubbish at maths," saying that the searcher is also "garbage at Englishes," despite "maths" being the preferred term in parts of the English-speaking world. Another entry was a direct quote from The Simpsons (in which Ralph refers to growing up to be a pri...more
This book was from the Quick Pick list and now I know why...what a fun and entertaining book! Almerico and Hottenroth have found the humor in the crazy things that will pop up on Google searches and have written hysterical commentaries about what ran through their minds when they first saw the suggestion.

SO people are stupid... I don't think that's ever been a secret. I myself often take great delight in the mental disadvantage and misadventures of others. But there is a point where things stop being funny and are just plain crass and unpalatable, (at least in my opinion). And this book slides right into that not so sweet spot. Here at my local Lib we have it shelved in a place to entice reluctant readers, and it may well do that... but part of me wishes we were filling their heads with a better...more
Whoogles is a quick, one hour read at max about odd things that the Google algorithm thinks you're going to look up when you start typing something in the popular search engine. Along with great comments from the author, Whoogles is a good hour waster if you have nothing else to do. This probably world work well as one of those books you put beside your toilet.
Quality literature it isn't, but it is definitely entertaining. I feel like this will be a big hit with the teens who just want to pick something short and witty. Additional plus- it makes you feel really, really smart that you weren't the one to Google that. Sometimes, though, I want to explain why it's a legit question, and then I feel ashamed...
Tried too hard. The only funny part of this book (the bizarre Google search suggestions) weren't even written by the authors.
The author didn't appear to do much research into what the "whoogle" was actually getting at. If the author had bothered to actually search some of these things she would have realized that the question "is jailbreaking illegal" does not actually refer to the process of breaking a person out of jail. Or that the phrase "I am going to grape you" is from a youtube video. Or that replying "Why am I garbage at Englishes" in response to "why am I rubbish at maths" is really not all that funny.

One of those perfect coffee table books - at least in the library. It gets picked up all the time and while some of the pages embarrass some of the teenagers, they certainly get plenty of laughs and start lots of conversations. I think it's actually checked out right now. My only criticism is that there are certain queries that were obviously prompted by a search for lyrics or a quotation that the authors must not have been aware of, so there is a legitimate reason for someone to "google that."
