Sixteen is the magic number

Mia doesn't always have the best luck with parties, so even though it's her sweet sixteenth, she doesn't want a birthday bash. As usual, Grandmere has other ideas, and thinks a reality TV special is just the thing in order to celebrate royally. The whole scheme smacks of Lilly's doing -- Lilly, whose own TV show is still only limited to local cab...more

I can't think of a single reason for this book to be published, other than a lust for money. It was absolutely pointless. I reserve one star ratings for books that I absolutely hate and would gladly throw in a fire, so that's the only reason you're seeing 2 stars.

PS. Michael is boring. It doesn't help that he's never part of the narrative.

Princess Mia’s sixteenth birthday is just around the corner and she’s not pleased about it. Her best friend Lilly keeps pestering her trying to convince her that she needs to throw and over the top bash, and her Grandmother, Grand’Mere has decided she wants to fly she and 100 of her closest friends to Genovia for shopping sprees and makeovers . . . but only if she can televise the whole event on MTV. Mia just wants a quiet birthday dinner with her boyfriend, Michael and zero drama....more

Mia, not the party girl at all, has deep trouble when Grandmere decides to have her Sweet Sixteen party broadcast on an MTV reality show. Can she stop her Grandmere and still have the perfect birthday?

After reading the first book in this series I went to the library and just happened to see the rest of the books (11 of them) sitting on the shelf so I loaded them into my bag and found myself diving into a week long Princess fest. And I enjoyed ever minute of it!

This whole series is a fun, light h...more

I guess this was a bit too short; compared to her other stories that she has written, her other books were much longer, more in depth and more interesting as well. It was basically about the planning of Mia’s sweet sixteen party what all girls would like when they reach age sixteen. And since she was a princess, her grandma wanted to blow it up and make it dramatic. Her grandma wanted to invite almost the entire school to go shopping and party. However, it was not what Mia wanted. All she wanted...more

This one was adorable but doesn't deserve a 5-star rating!

Lilly and Grandmere are up to their old antics again. No, MIA DOESN'T WANT A SIXTEENTH-BIRTHDAY BASH!! (But good things came of the last one, despite what Mia and Tina might think - I mean, it got Tina and Boris together.) But of course that's what she's going to get, and all. While she may be the POG, no one said she wanted a par-tee.

What can Mia do to keep this from turning into My-Super-Sweet-Sixteen disaster?

Princess Mia is turning 16! Yay! And so she has to have a birthday celebration. Her grandmother, the queen, wants to throw some ridiculous party, but all Mia wants is something simple. In the end she gets a little mix of both.

This book had funny parts, but that's really the only good thing that I can say about it. The plot was lacking and I really wasn't that engaged. It could be because it is a series book and I came in the middle, but I'm not entirely sure. Perhaps this series is for...more

hm a feature on MTV? didn't think grandma would go that far. the conscious part of me is thinking really? a sweet sixteen featured by MTV? that is so cliche and not to mention a waste of money. The subconscious part of me is saying wow that's really cool. and i really had thought that Lily had been a part of the plan and wow she told JP she loved and all he said was thank you. Haha! but that was very brave of her but then again: she's Lily. and wow how Micheal planned her a different birthday pa...more

This book is about princess Mia. Mia's grandme're goes way to over board with all of Mia's birthday parties. For her sixteenth birthday everybody has her thinking that all of her friends and some family are going to the mall to have a spa day. Mia does not want this to happen even no it wouldn't be happening anyways. So instead they have her thinking that they are taking one of Mia's friends (a boy) is going to the mall to get clothes and boy things for his birthday. When it comes to Michael com...more

This review will be short because this is a half volume of the series.

Okay, well this book was semi-dissapointing. In most of the other half volumes, Meg was able to develop the plot AND wrap up the conflict effectively. I felt like the opposite was true in this book. I think that the book was promising until the resolution, which I didn't really particularly like.

Mia is turning sixteen and all her friends want her to have a party. Mia just wants to have a dinner with her boyfriend, Michael. Wil...more

Mia, Princess of Genovia, is about to turn sixteen. The last thing she wants is a sweet sixteen birthday party, but it seems like that's the only thing her friends can talk about. While Mia is worried about how to get the administration at Albert Einstein High School to go less on the structured athletics and more on the personal exercise and health regimen, her best friend Lilly is still steaming over being passed up for her own show on MTV.

While Lilly stews...more

With nothing else to read at work but a few teen books I picked up this one based on the fact that I like the movie. This book isn't like the movie version of Princess Diaries.

Page 67 - "Well. That's it. I'm sixteen. At last. I can now legally have sex in most European countries, including Genovia, and just about every state in America."

Mia, you slut. Some role model you turned out to be. The book is so vapid. Absolutely devoid of any kind of entertainment value.

It was a cute little fluff before Mia tured sixteen. However, I think I found a typo in Meg Cabot's writing this book.

On page 17, Mia writes, "They close the skating rink at Rockefeller Center on APRIL 1, so I've never been able to ice-skating on my birthday."

BUT, isn't Mia birthday MAY 1??

When it was finally May 1, Mia writes, "Well, that's it. I'm sixteen." (page 67)

But all in all, I enjoyed this short read, where it was just fluff and fun.

Another in the gift book size issues of the Princess Diaries series. It's short, fluffy, and fun. Mia's sweet sixteenth birthday is arriving, but her Grandmere has an idea about how to celebrate. I LOL'd at Meg's suggestion that Grandmere and Lilly were "like Snape and Malfoy. Minus the capes." Lots of fun, and I enjoyed the beginnings of sexual tension between Mia and J.P. Although she doesn't know it yet!!

It was a good read though Mia's intentions for refusing to Grandmere's offer for her sixteenth birthday was very noble, I think if I were in her shoes, I will accept her offer. It is just a once in a lifetime celebration. It will not make her greedy if she have accepted it.

This one may be more like 2.5 stars because there were actually a few moments of this one that I enjoyed.

However, (view spoiler)[I do know that Mia and JP get together at least temporarily, so the fact that JP and Lilly are together now makes me unhappy. Especially because Lilly has now said she loves JP. It's not even that I particularly like Lilly or Mia, because I really don't. I just don't like this. (hide spoiler)]

Mia does not want a big party for her 16th birthday. Grandmere has other ideas, and she wants Mia to be on the MTV reality show My Super 16th Birthday. All Mia's friends think she should do it because of the extravegance and being on TV. Mia just wants a quiet evening with Michael, but who knows how the celebration will turn out?

my mom bought me this book when it first came out, it is Mia's birthday she is turning 16, Mia's grandma and Lilly her best friend tries to get her to be on MTV on my super sweet 16 and Mia says no way she does not want to, Mia does not want any party at all of her 16th birthday all she wants is to go to dinner with her boyfriend Michael, Mia is trying to get the administration at Albert Einstein High School to start spending lesson the structured athletics and to spend more on personal exercise...more

even this book is practically tiny, but i really enjoy this book.
Its really entertaining, and i love the part when Michael give the special gift for her, it so sweet. :D
but again, i think Mia's character is a bit annoyed me, as always.
i know that she is humble, and care about the other people. thats very good for a princess's character and for every one's character.
i know maybe she dont like party, but come on.. she is a princess, and when her garndma and her friends want celebrate her party, sh...more

I have been going back and reading all the Princess Diaries that I have missed. I've been reading a lot of heavy stuff lately, and wanted to get a break and read some "brain candy."

Mia is turning 16, and everyone has an idea of how she should spend her birthday. Lily is pushing hard for a party, and so is her Grandmere. Grandmere also wants to do an episode of My Super Sweet Sixteen for MTV, only topping them all by flying 100 friends to Genovia for a weekend of spoiling. Of course, socially con...more

I know, I know, I shouldn't be reading this stuff, but it's fun and fast reading. I read the whole thing in 2 treadmill sessions. It was cute and I felt like I actually accomplished something. Just what I needed. = )

I'm not a big fan of the in-between novels. I always thought that she wrote them just to extend the series and kind of milk it. I like the 10 full editions. So like the other ones, I could have done without this one.

This one was great, too. very short, at only 82 pages, but that's the point of the pint-sized half books. it was 7 and a half. I finished it in one night. I stayed up till 10 reading it, when I started it (read it off-and-on) starting at, like, five.

Do people actually hold all-expense-paid trips to European countries and shopping sprees in Louis Vuitton and Chanel for sweet sixteens? For one hundred people?
Amanda Fack
The princess diaries are fantastic. You can read them in a lunch hour, they're funny, energetic, and completely pleasant. They are the ice cream of books.
Debbie
Another "half" princess book, this time it is Mia's 16th birthday. 50 pages of "pink fluff" with humerous references to Harry Potter and MTvs My Super Sweet 16.
Janaki
It was a really awesome diary! It really made me think about what happened next! I only wished it was a little bit longer, though!

If I would have known there were so many books in this series I probably wouldn't have started it; but, alas, I always finish what I start and I only have a couple more with this one. Still, I'm anxious to move on to another young adult series soon.

Okay so maybe it's me but these short installments are cute. Michael & Mia are so cute. Just thought all should know.
Donovan
I like this book it's a little too mushy and lovey-dovey for my liking, though. I still like the ending.

Meg Cabot was born on February 1, 1967, during the Chinese astrological year of the Fire Horse, a notoriously unlucky sign. Fortunately she grew up in Bloomington, Indiana, where few people were aware of the stigma of being a fire horse -- at least until Meg became a teenager, when she flun...more
