I was going to write a full review, but I changed my mind. I'd rather read the next book in the series than "waste" my time saying how much I loved this book, LOL.

So, let's go straight to the point: Dawn's Awakening is tied with Elizabeth's Wolf (Breeds, #4) as the best in the series so far, IMO. A true keeper.
Really nice and sexy and trashy! : ) Just what you need when you don't want to get out of bed.

I've been waiting for Dawn and Seth's story ever since they met in The Man Within (second in Leigh's Breed Series.)

Well worth the wait! It was emotional, gripping, sexy, and I even had a little chuckle there at the end.

Here's the send up:

Scarred from their horrific time in the labs that created genetically engineered man/ animal cross breeds- and from the treacherous dealings of a breed she had once considered brother- Dawn is the most emotionally vulnerable of all of them.

Having met when Seth t...more
Absolutely adored this story. I'm unable to write a summary of it yet, I'm still shaking. In my opinion this is the best story in the series to date and I doubt one could surpass it. It was simply amazing...Actually there are not enough superlatives to describe it.

It was one heck of an emotional roller coaster, ranging from terror, despair, anger, hate, love, and everything in between.

The characters were rich, well-developed, and superbly drawn. They came to life under the readers eyes, making u...more

Anyone who has been following Lora Leigh's Breeds series has been introduced to Dawn Daniels, the little cougar sister of the pride led by Callan Lyons. The sexual abuse and torture that she suffered as a child in the Genetics Council's labs are mentioned in the early Feline Breeds books.

Dawn's Awakening is a story of overcoming abuse and the healing that can be found when someone believes in you. Yeah, the healing power of love is not only too cliche, but in Dawn's life, love wasn't healing. Th...more

This one had me on an emotional roller coaster. Though I read "Megan's Mark," "Harmony's Way", and "Tanner's Scheme" I felt a little lost at the beginning of this book. But, as the author weaved her story it started coming together and I was able to get back into the "know" on the council, sanctuary, etc. This one brought all the breeds together (wolf, coyote, cougar, etc.) and seemed to come full circle with events started in earlier stories, i.e., original breed, grotesque abuse in the labs (c...more

I took a break from the Breeds for a while to read other things, but came back to them with a vengeance through this book! This story was painful at times, loving at others, passionate, COMpassionate, romantic, tense, and guaranteed to keep you guessing until the end ... and beyond!

Loved it! Probably one of Leigh's better Breeds stories, and definitely her most romantic hero to date. Also, a big revelation toward the end of the story...
I have been tearing through the Breeds series...and enjoying them all. This was no exception. I am glad to be back to the Berkley books, rather than the Ellora's Cave ones, for the simple fact that I find that these ones have more story to them. Each book in the series gives you a couple of new pieces in the over-all story arc, and each one introduces a new angle. This was the story of Dawn and Seth, who although mated for over 10 years have never been together. Dawn, traumatized by a horrible p...more
Okay okay okay! So, I started reading this yesterday morning and was infuriated by damn near all the characters for one reason or another. I was extremely frustrated with the characters and where the story was headed. I DNFed it before the 2nd chapter.

Then I read another Lora Leigh story and was pretty pissed off at that story, too. Decided to see if maybe I was just PMSing or something and unfairly judged this book. So I gave it a second chance.

My verdict: Meh.

The reviews gushed that Seth is so...more
Dawn's Awakening was really 4.5 stars for me. Leigh did a splendid job of creating her breed forces. Dawn, the smart ass, tough, yet caring Coyote Breed was a times a little bipolar. She was deeply, sexually wounded as a child; somehow she manages to get over that for just one guy in a matter of hours? Hmm, doesn't seem likely to me. So at times I found Dawn a little too unrealistic. I never felt a deep connection to her character that I really needed to say the book was fantastic. Seth, however...more

I love all of the breed books. The love between Dawn and Seth is very apparent throughout the book. This is evidenced by how they treat one another and try to work together, instead of against each other.
,Seth is definately a "sweeter" hero, but still alpha enough to take control, and help the woman he loves get over the horrible things that had been done to her in the past. He was very romantic. He was very loving and supportive. He would do things to remind him of her..(the soap blew me away....more

See, here's the problem...I have a love/hate relationship with the Breed books. I really need more plot than porn sex and I was ready to cross this series off my list but my vbff, V, told me to give her four favorite books a chance and I'm glad I listened to her. Certainly, while this book has its fair share of LL's infamous porn sex and cheesy sex lines, there is a lot of sweetness in this book....and surprise...romance!!

Dawn is the female breed that was brutalized in the labs and then by her...more

I am definitely a "Breeds" fan and a Lora Leigh fan, but this book was definitely frustrating for me. Perhaps it was due to my preferences that I did not fancy this book, but as the plot progressed there were times where I just wanted to throw it! Unlike other books in the "Breeds" series with the high-handed delectable alpha males, this is the story of a female Breed who in her own sense, has a tortured past.

I won't summarize the plot (you can find that in other people's posts and they will sum...more

A great book from start to finish! I loved how Dawn just took charge of her life and did what she needed to get her man. Seth was such a sweetie. So caring and nuturing. They made a great pairing. The ending had me in tears! Kudos to Ms. Leigh for an excellent book.
When I don't love a hero or when I strongly dislike a heroine, it is difficult to really enjoy a book. I didn't like Dawn at all, so it was a struggle for me to get through her story. I liked Seth, but we didn't get to see much of him except the repetitive "I walked away from her ten years ago when they asked because I didn't want to force her into something she wouldn't be ready for and I didn't want to see fear when she was with me" which was the basic concept of the first 3/4 of the book. Daw...more
Seth and Dawn...

Seth, a businessman - who's father's company inadvertantly funded council endeavors, and under his son was contributing all possible to the Breeds instead.

Dawn, Callan's sister, petite, and severely sexually abused as a child... and Callan's guilt and compassion for his sister are strong.

Early on in Sanctuary, Seth and Dawn met - and Seth gently flirted with her, and she was interested - didn't feel as threatened in his male presence- and they shared one almost kiss... but Dawn...more

Well, I think this book was my favorite of the series so far. Dawn was the runt of the litter and the one that everyone protected. It was a little difficult to read about the abuse she took while in the labs, but we needed to read it to understand why she is where she is.

Her mate, Seth, left her 10 years before the start of their story because he did not think she was ready for what he wanted. She ends being put on protection duty for him because the Council is trying to kill him for his support...more
I truly loved this one, loved Dawn and Seth, her grief, his strength, the plot, the on going action, and the incredible love story that they share.

The awakening, a very inteligent way to write and make us think that sometimes we get caught up in our grief and don't move on because of our fear of what's coming ahead.

The ending, a great way to follow up on the main line of the story and making us addicted to the next book coming.

Leigh's world always makes me want more, if she could possibly write...more
This was my FAVORITE of the series. The torture that Dawn went thru as a child in the labs broke my heart as well as the torture Callen went thru trying to save her from herself and from the mating heat she was in.

Dawn literally grew up in this book. She was NOT the Dawn we saw in previous books and was so glad she fought her way back to claim what was hers all along.

Dawn and Seth is such a good pairing, and he was the ONLY one to ever make her see herself and bring her out of her nightmare........more
Re-read this with my friend and it STILL remains one of my favorites in this series!! Still has Lora Leigh's trademark "breed's sex" but i think it might have been toned down a bit in this one and it was def. sweeter and more romantic than the previous books! I LOVED Seth!!! :)
This was the best book in the series so far. There was more story plot than sex for once. And the sex that was there felt sweet and loving rather than all consuming.

A very powerful moving story. This story explains why I continue reading this series because once in a while Lora Leigh writes an excellent Breed book.

Dawn's character is complex, and I've liked her from the begining. I was waiting to read their story and it didn't disappoint! Action packed, and sexy!
Okay this one had me riveted to the end. I loved the characters of Dawn and Seth. Just amazed at what they went through
Enjoyed this story a lot more on a reread. There are so many new characters and story aspects coming together here that it works better I think with the knowledge of what is to come. Dawn's reactions in particular are easier to understand when you have a good feel for what she's been through. Never understood why Seth didn't go to Dawn right before he left and explain why he was leaving and that he would be there for her when she was ready. Irksome. Otherwise, the introduction of the breed who I...more

Lora Leigh lives in the rolling hills of Kentucky, often found absorbing the ambience of this peaceful setting. She dreams in bright, vivid images of the characters intent on taking over her writing life, and fights a constant battle to put them on the hard drive of her computer before they can disappear as fast as they appeared. Lora’s family, and her writing life co-exist, if not in harmony, in...more
