Review to come...

3.5 stars.

And review is finally here, because I haven't written a review in what seems like forever.
Yeah, I'm that active.

Before we get to the story, I would like to discuss the cover: It's not as cool as it looks. For real.
I do understand what the cover artist tried to do here, the skirt is supposed to undo itself into a pool of petals, creating a ghostly, eerie effect.
So far so good; if it wasn't for the fact that in realit More...

Lenzi’s father is dead because he heard voices and now that Lenzi has turned seventeen, she’s hearing them too. Her life flashes before her eyes: the hospitals, the medications, her mother’s sad face. She’s sure this is the course of her life until she visits her father’s grave and meets Alden. Alden is handsome and when he touches Lenzi, everything feels right in the world. The only problem is that Lenzi has a boyfriend and Alden seems to be just as much out of touch with reality as Lenzi is. More...

Is 5 stars really the most I can give? How do I express how much I love this book? This might be the only book I've ever read, or at least read in a long long time, where I was immediately drawn in on the very first page.

Lenzi is just trying to be normal. Her dad was schizophrenic. He heard voices, and then he died. Now Lenzi is hearing voices, too. The stability in her life is her ever so sweet boyfriend Zak. But the voices are getting worse, and as much as he wants to, Zak ca More...

The short version:
A bit draggy and boring during the first half, but quite captivating, when the action and the romance started to run warm.

The long version:
Lenzi Rose had a schizophrenic father, whose condition unraveled her mom, thus Lenzi does not dare to confide in her that she is hearing voices trying to enlist her "help" (like Isobel in Unraveling Isobel). Instead she talks to the only person still by her side after her father took his life (do people let More...

What's in a name? That which we call a rose

Lenzi sees and hears things that the average human can't. When she suddenly begins to have visions involving a flood, a handsome boy and begins to hear voices calling out for her, she begins to fear that she's hallucinating just like her father before he passed away. During a visit to her father's grave in the middle of the night with boyfriend Zak, who isn't al More...

Shattered Souls is a haunting tale filled with emotional depth and near-paralyzing suspense that grips as each new piece of mystery unfolds. The skillful characterization combined with mystery, the paranormal, and horror makes the narrative flow natural and graceful - a serious pleasure to read (addictively).

Lenzi is a troubled girl in a relationship with a troubled boy, Zak, but then Alden appears and seems to know about Lenzi's issues and reveals that they are not, in fact, issues More...

Shattered Souls isn't just a book that you read, it's a book that you experience. I'm going to start out with that. Honestly, from page one I was completely hooked into Lenzi's struggle, her world, and everything going on. This is a haunting tale, with so much suspense that it sinks it's teeth into you and carries you along as things develop. What I'm saying is that this is a book that you need to read. It's addictive.

The Good

The whole protector-speaker thing. They’re basically exorcists. Even if the way Alden explained the in’s and out’s of what they were and what they did come off as a little clumsy to suit my taste, I did enjoy the novelty of it all. She talks to dead people and he protects her. Throw in some reincarnation and then some amnesia, and I thought the whole thing as not bad.

The So-so

Rose thinks she’s schizophrenic. (I think I’d have liked her more if she were.) Wh More...

Priemerne 4.48? Huh?

Lenzi vidí (či skôr cíti a počuje) duchov.

I can say with all honesty that this is one of my favorite books. I did not want to give this book up to the next person on the tour. I wanted to hide it away so I could read it again. And I did reread many scenes, just so I could relive them and sear them into my brain.

First off, Mary Lindsey’s writing is clear, fresh, and descriptive. I lost myself in the words and had to force myself to slow down, as I wanted to take my time, but the writing was so easy to inhale. I was gripped in More...

Engaging, emotional, roller coaster of a debut. Lenzi thinks she is going insane like her father and is trying to hold her self together. She hears voices and sees things that no one else does. Her boyfriend Zak tries to be helpful but is slowly starting to think she is crazy too, then Alden appears and everything is slowly revealed to her and starts making sense.

RevieTalking spirits, cute boys, amnesia and a dog named Spook.

No, Lenzie isn’t going crazy like her father! She isn’t anything like her father, she’s your run of the mill Speaker. You know, person that talks to dead people. Helps them resolve their issues and then sends them packing for the pearly gates. (Or a one way ticket to hell!)

There were things I really enjoyed about this story and others not so much. But overall it was a positive reading experience.

I absolutely loved this book because it had a new concept I haven't read about before and it captivated me almost right away. Poor Lenzi (awesome name!) has no idea what is going on and frankly neither did I right away and I think that is what pulled me in. There was a lot going on in this book and figuring things out along with Lenzi was awesome. I want to say more, but I don't want to ruin anything so I will just say that I loved everything about this book from the concept, to the plot and the More...

Why I Wanted to Read It

I was drawn in by the amazing cover, the title and the synopsis that mentions that the main character, Lenzi, has life altering decisions to make while a malevolent spirit is out to destroy her.

My Thoughts

I love books that get to the point and grab me into the story right away and Shattered Souls does that. It skips the drawn out wind up and jumps into Lenzi’s story as she struggles with what is going on with her and later, with who she is.

The fact that Lenzi can hear voices is strange and disturbing. She thinks she is becoming schizophrenic like her father that ended up committing suicide a year ago, but the truth is even more unusual. She hears the voices of souls trapped on Earth. Her role as a “Seeker” is explained by Alden, a boy who claims to have known her through centuries of life times she can't seem to remember. I think Lenzi deals with this whole new world that opens up well, because she's pretty excited to hear she isn More...

4.75 Soul Shattering Stars!

I'm in love with this story! It was creepy and eerie at times, but the story had so many other more elements. It's a story of love, death, finding closure, and second chances.

All our heroine, Lenzi, wants is a normal life. She has a supportive boyfriend in Zak, but that doesn't help her little problem of hearing voices. She's looking for answers that doesn't involve medication or a trip to the psychiatrist. The reason she hears voices is not becaus More...

Right from the get-go, I'm talking chapter one, us readers are told that MC Lenzi Rose sees dead people à la The Sixth Sense. We’re talking drops in temperature, breath puffing out in white clouds, spirits needing her help to right their wrongs à la Ghost Town, the whole nine yards. As a result, Lenzi swears she’s going crazy, just like her daddy and is so not dealing with this special gift. Her boyfriend, Zak, rescues Lenzi from these psychotic happenings by cradling her in his strong arms, w More...

When a book has a cover this gorgeous, you want to buy it and just pray that the story inside is awesome enough to match... and that's exactly the case with Shattered Souls! I loved it!

At first I didn't think I'd really enjoy this book because it starts off like your typical girl-sees-dead-people story. But once Lenzi starts to accept who she is and we get to know all of the amazing side characters, the story picks up quickly and you won't be able to put it down!

Shattered Souls, by Mary Lindsey, is a great addition to the paranormal genre. Like the catch phrase says, Shattered Souls is a book about “death, love, destiny, and danger.” Not necessarily in that order, but all of these are definitely in this thrilling debut. A book that requires readers to be open-minded and very thoughtful is just about near perfect.

When Lenzi begins hearing voices and having strange visions, she first believes she’s losing her mind. Her father suffered a mental More...

Shattered Souls instantly grabbed my attention because of the gorgeous cover and the interesting blurb about ghosts, reincarnation and exorcisms. The book had a pretty interesting concept and it kicked off right away with lovely writing, a complicated, troubled protagonist and some pretty creepy scenes. I hadn't had the best of luck with books involving reincarnation prior to reading Shattered Souls, but I do love a good ghost story so I knew I had to read this. Thankfully, I enjoyed reading this story immensely. What a relief right? Mary Lindsey wrote a book that I think has the ability to knock readers socks off. It has the paranormal elements and romance that is so hot in YA right now, but she delivers it with a genuinely unique premise.
