While writing this review, I kept asking myself, how does Pamela Clare do it? How does she write book after amazing book, each one getting better than the one before? When I was sure she couldn’t possibly top Extreme Exposure, I read Hard Evidence and was blown away. Oh my god! So I’ve just finished Unlawful Contact minutes ago and I’m still recovering.

Okay, but in all seriousness, Pamela Clare has gone above and beyond any expectations I had for this book! Each new instalment in the I-Teams series is better than the first and I know I said I wanted Julian’s babies in my last review, but I am considering having Marc’s now. Hunt just has that affect on my ovaries. Can you blame a girl?

Marc Hunter has lived through hell. He lost six years of his life, rotting away behind bars for a crime he would without a doubt commit again. With his lethal good looks and his deadly charm, Marc is a force to be reckoned with. Ms. Clare writes the most amazing heroes in her novels but I think Hunter tops them all. There are so many facets to his personality. One of the best things I loved about him was the fact that he had honor. Even with his status as a convicted murderer, he still had a sense of right and wrong that I respected a lot. Furthermore, I loved his sense of hope and his live-in-the-moment attitude. In the bleakest of times, he doesn’t become brooding and tortures himself over things he has no control of. Instead, he makes the best of what he has and never forgets the gift of the present he is living in.

And then there’s Sophie Alton who has become my favourite heroine of this entire series! I adored her from the get-go and loved her faith in Hunt. The prologue was so brilliantly crafted that I knew I would be in trouble because I fell so hard for both these characters. Out of the I-Team, Sophie was pretty laid back. But in the spotlight, in her own book, I thought she shined. She was so strong and courageous. What both Hunt and Sophie experience in this book, is both gut-wrenching and heartfelt because even during the toughest of times, they find salvation within each other.

Their love for one another was so believable and potent that ...I’ll admit it, I cried a lot during this book! This book has officially become one of my all-time favourites because I will never be the same after reading this. Unlawful Contact tore me to pieces and as corny as it sounds, I will always remember this.
Now, here’s the hard part....finding a book to read after this because nothing will stand up to the masterpiece that this book is. Nothing.

Let me start by saying how much I love Pamela Clare’s work. She brings so much to her stories, from the suspenseful knot I get in my stomach, the kind of plots I can sink my teeth into, the sizzling, toe curling sexiness of her heroes, to the emotional wreck she makes of my heart. And she does this time and time again, and I repeatedly come back for more.

Oh how I love this series!! I only wonder, why after reading the first two books earlier this year, I waited so long to read the third!?!

This book engaged me from the start and I was completely sucked in, invested in the characters and dying to know how it was all going to work out! After reading Unlawful Contact, I can still say that I love this series by Pamela Clare. I had doubts that I would enjoy this one as well as the first two since the premise is that of a convicted killer breaking out of prison and taking the heroine hostage. At the outset, that didn't sound like my kind of hero, even if he was trying to save his sister, but the author did a great job of creating a caring, anguished character out of him.

The first book I read by Pamela Clare was a historical, which I absolutely loved. Sometimes, I find, that if you're a really good historical writer, then you can't really be a good contemporary writer as well. Obviously I have been sadly deluded!! What a disappointing book. After reading the first two, strong and entertaining books in the series I was taken aback by how bad this one is.

I could not sit down to write a review for a few hours. I was stunned at the complex story that took place here. OMG they are getting better and better if that is possible. What can I say about the I Team?? Love them and Tom (even though he is an ass sometimes). After Extreme Exposure and Hard Evidence I had to move right along. I finished this amazing authors work in a day. OK I read fast and have a lot of time, but darn this was great and I was blown away again.

She gets an anonymous tip to that leads her to question a prison inmate, who happens to be Hunt, the high school secret crush/cherry picker and also the brother of the young lady who pulled the vanishing act. He uses her to orchestrate his jailbreak, and what follows is a race against time to find the sister before the bad guys can get to her, and also avoid the cops, to keep Hunt from being sent back to jail.

I loved Sophie!! I didn't like Tessa from book 2, but really liked Kara from book 1. Well Sophie has none of the annoying traits of Tessa and had all the good bits of Kara magnified. She was a good balance of all girly (hot pink vibrators), slightly silly (not wearing boots in winter because they didn't look good), sensible, and smart. Marc Hunter was....awesome. Move over Reece, I think I just found a new favorite I-Team guy! I thoroughly, thoroughly enjoyed myself with this one.

As stories go, this one was a teensy bit syrupy, with none of the over-the-top cheese from the previous books. Ms. Clare erred on the side of cute here. Me likey.

Hmm... I wonder if we're ever going to have an I-Team Peeps' Children Grew Up and Are Having the Hots for Each Other series, what with all the kids these people are popping about. T'will be fun. I for one am gunning for Kara's son with Julian's daughter and Kara's daughter playing older woman to Hunt's son, LOL!!!(less)

Thank you Jesus for Marc Hunter. Couldn't we all use a Marc Hunter in our life? Goodness gracious and and then throw in some Julian on top of that with a little splash of Reece.
I'm still perturbed with the overuse of exclamation! points! but that's ok. I enjoyed this plot and it was intense from the beginning...it kept my attention- so much so that I read it in a day. (sick kid in the house actually gave me lots of time to read)

THE STORY :

THE STORY :

Marc Hunter aka "Hunt" is TROUBLE. He's the badass, "cutest" senior who gets blamed for everything because his mother is in prison. Which was really unfair. The 18 yr old Hunt that we saw was an unmistakably sweet, caring protector of the innocent (our h of course!) and at least NEVER did drugs. He notices one of the prettiest girls one night and she is...

Sophie Alton is the little girl whose parents died in a car accident, and she tries hard to study and become a successful woman. She is driven and focused and incredibly naive. She also has a crush on the school badass, Hunt (whose name she doesnt know :O )

Circumstances bring them together and they make love, stay up talking the night before he leaves for the Army..very romantic, very heartbreaking.

12 years later, they are unable to forget each other, that one night is a tangible cord connecting one to the other. Only...

Sophie is the hotshot Investigative Reporter she was always supposed to be, and Marc Hunter is in PRISON with a LWOP life sentence :O (He was a decorated Army Officer the first 6yrs)
Hunt is on a quest to find his sister and her daughter and enlists Sophie's help.

Throughout the story we find out exactly how innocent is Hunt, his love for the women in his life and hear about his heart-wrenching life in prison.

WHAT I THOUGHT :
This book is definitely one of my favourites in this genre and I really, really liked the characters. Sophie's character was nice-ish...she spent a lot of time being confused, conflicted..but its expected as the H is a known fugitive and a killer, who held her hostage for his own escape.
Hunt's story is heartbreaking and reveals the horrors of prison which we cant imagine in the sanctity of our homes with warm beds and hot tubs.
I REALLY loved Julian in this book, he appears almost every chapter and makes you fall more in love with him *squeeeeeeeal* :D
What I had a problem with...

1> It was a bit odd when Sophie, age 16, pleaded Hunt to take her virginity. He says she was unafraid. Well..this was still OK. I like that it was completely her decision, though out of character.

2> The memory of that night. That part of the plot is a little implausible. Both continue to refer to that memory. They thought of it and each other almost every day for the past 12 yrs. It is strong, of course, but still...

3> Hunt's behavior after Afghanistan. Maybe he got off lucky, but he doesnt seem to show ANY of the signs like PTSD or even nightmares soldiers have.

4> About 60% into the book, they finally make love...and make love...and make love...infact, they spend nearly a week simply continuing their orgy and only on the last day or so run off to find Megan. It is a LIFE OR DEATH search, yet they go about it very casually, only in the last chapter do they act on the information gathered. I JUST DONT GET THIS!!!

5> Finding Megan - Well, precious time was spent making love all over the place in different positions. I wish it had been distributed throughout the book. Anyway, this last part is very very hurried, clumsy, unplanned..

6> Taking a bullet cliche - Well, the bad guy who was "knocked out" finds the energy to point at our Sophie and Hunt takes a bullet to his chest for her. I really expected better from Ms. Clare, its too common and predictable.

7> No LISSY and WILL. What happened to them?!!! *wail* :(((((

Reece also makes an appearance in the book. Good old Senator is like Cinderella's Fairy Godmother, he is just so AWESOME and kickass, hehe :P Anyway, he initiates several Bills after the ordeal and makes everything ok again :)

Little problems do persist but the book is still riveting! I would read it all over again...or just go to the next in the series :D(less)

OMG. This book should be provided with a warning "dangerously addictive - do not start before you know you can read it all straight".
I started it late last night with the objective to just see who the hero/heroine are, under 1 to 2 chapters. I read 5 of those, before being reasonable and putting it away to sleep. And the following morning, my wake-up chapter turned into 2 almost without my knowledge and put me late.

Another great addition to Pamela Clare's I-Team series. Whew... she knows how to create drool worthy heros. I couldn't see how this was going to end well. The H, Hunt ( Marc Hunter), was 6 years into his life sentence for murdering a cop. I did have a good idea as to the truth behind his murder conviction, but couldn't imagine how it would all play out. I loved Darcangelo from the second book, Hard Evidence and we did get to see some of him in this book. But I am torn now on who my favorite is...more

I don't even know how to start this review...this book was soooo incredibly good!! We all have a weak spot for bad-boys, but Marc is the most deadly of his kind...one of the ones that never planned to be a bad boy. He just had a horribly crummy set of circumstances and there wasn't anything that he could do about it.

Marc & Sophie had one night of amazing passion 12 years ago. She was 16 and he was 18 and it was a night that neither of them was ever able to forget. It was the night before he left to go into the army and they haven't seen each other since. But after he got out of the army (where he was a highly decorated spec. ops sniper,) he became an agent for the DEA. Something went very wrong and he has spent the last 6 years in prison serving "life without parole" for killing a fellow agent at point-blank range with 3 shots to the chest.

Sophie has no idea what happened to "Hunt" after their one night together. She is now an investigative reporter for the exclusive I-Team for the Denver paper. She has been working on a story about Megan Rawlings, a former drug addict who had a baby in prison and is turning her life around...which is the first bit of mystery for this story when Megan inexplicably kidnaps her baby and disappears. What Sophie doesn't realize is that her Hunt is really Marc Hunter and that he is Megan Rawlings brother. She has been given a tip that Marc Hunter may be able to help her locate Megan, so she goes and visits him in prison. All Marc knows is that Megan and the baby are in extreme danger and he has to save them, so he uses Sophie's visit as a means for escape and this book hits high octane power from there on out.

One word permeates the feel of this book when you are reading it...desperation. Marc doesn't want to make the choices that he has to make, but he's desperate. He can't let Megan and the baby die. He doesn't want to endanger Sophie and does everything in his power to protect her. There is a desperate feel to the story and their relationship, because it doesn't seem like there is anyway for all of this to end well. Marc admitted to killing Cross and even without that, he has since broke countless laws starting with breaking out of prison and kidnapping Sophie. There is no going back. There is only "now" for Sophie and Marc...and that gives the entire story a desperate level...both in their passion and despair.

This book is FULL of action and suspense from page one on. Reading it, I could actually feel my blood pressure and heart rate ratcheting up throughout the entire book. I could not fathom how Pamela Clare was possibly going to write this book so that everything ended up okay. I cannot even explain to you how good this book was. The suspense was A.MA.ZING! The passion was SIZ.ZLING! The love story was HEART-BREAKING! I bawled my way through the last 1/4 of the book. Then the epilogue...PER.FEC.TION! And then I cried some more.

I LOVED THIS BOOK!!!

You need to read this one. You don't have to have read the other 2 I-Team books to enjoy it, although they are good books and the characters are re-curring so it certainly doesn't hurt. AND I wasn't a huge fan of Tessa and Julian in their book (book #2), but I have completely changed my mind. In this book, they were AWESOME, esp. Julian. I am going to have to re-read their book sometime and give them a second chance...(less)

What a STORY!!! The beginning of the book is sweet and touches your heart, starts off with sophomore nerdish Sophie and senior bad boy Hunt as teenagers. I am not going to go into much of the story because I don't want to possibly spoil it for anyone. Its a testament to Ms. Clare’s creativity and talent that each of these stories have wormed their way into my heart, never to be forgotten, to be revisited sometime in the near future. With only one more book from the I-Team series left for me to read, it’s going to be an unbearable wait till July next year when Breaking Point featuring the mouthwatering Jed Hill on its cover comes out.

Marc Hunter or Hunt as he is called by Sophie is a convicted killer serving out his life sentence without eligibility for parole in the Colorado State Penitentiary. Broad shouldered with thick brown hair and deep green eyes, Marc comes from a broken home with a mother who had been a drug addict which had led him to growing up within one foster home or the other. The social service workers had come to take him and his younger half sister Megan away when Marc had just been 10 years old. And to this day, the image of little Megan crying and reluctant to leave her home drives home the guilt that he should have been a better protector for Megan. Marc had managed to clean up his act enough to get a place in the army where he had spent six years of his life becoming a decorated Special Operations sniper and served 18 months in Afghanistan before coming back to Colorado. Seeing that Megan had turned into a drug addict just like their mother cuts Marc up deeper than anything else and he tries to do the right thing by helping her overcome her addiction. With a job at the DEA doing what he can to rid the streets of the drugs that had ruined his family, the life he had created for himself comes crashing down on the afternoon of August 12, 2001. When the walls of the prison closes around him, life becomes undoubtedly that much harder for Marc as the guards hate his guts because he had killed a federal officer whilst the inmates are out for his blood especially those he had helped put behind bars during his time at the DEA. The only thing that keeps him going through the six years in prison is reliving the sweet memory of Sophie or his fairy sprite, the girl who had offered him her virginity on the night he was to leave for the army giving him the most precious and happiest hours of his life.

Sophie Alton had just been 16 years old with a massive crush on Hunt when all her dreams had come true on the night June 9, 1996. Sophie and her brother David had had to move down to Grand Junction, Colorado to live with their maternal grandmother when Sophie’s loving parents had been killed by a drunk driver whilst crossing a road in Denver. With strawberry blond hair, creamy skin and deep blue eyes, Sophie has big dreams of making it as a journalist when Hunt gives her the most unforgettable night of her life beneath the open sky. Though Sophie had dated sparsely throughout the years, every other man pales in comparison to Hunt. 12 years on, Sophie does the prison beat for the Denver Independent’s elite I-team. With her brother David studying to be a horse vet, Sophie saves every penny she can so that she can help David along to achieve his dreams.

Storyline: Sophie had been covering Megan Rawlings, an inmates journey through pregnancy and motherhood for the past couple of months ever since she had covered a piece on the stillbirth of an inmate’s baby which had in turn spurred her on to look more closely into the plight of female prison inmates. Megan had spent 18 hours in labor pains to deliver beautiful baby girl Emily only to give her up to the Social Services. On the day that Megan had earned a 2 hour visit with Emily which Sophie was covering, Megan disappears with Emily in tow leaving a large amount of drugs in her room, a testament to the fact that Megan had once again succumbed back to her addiction which Sophie had been so happy to see that Megan had been overcoming slowly. Since Sophie had grown pretty close to Megan during the months she had spent with her, when Sophie receives an invitation from Megan’s brother in jail, Sophie is more than eager to meet up with him to find out whether he has any information that could lead her to Megan. When Marc walks into the interview room Sophie has no idea of who he is though the very sight of his beautiful Sophie all grown up hits Marc nearly stunning him momentarily. Before Sophie knows it, she is held at gunpoint by Megan’s brother as he flees the four walls of the prison that had been his home for the past 6 years. It is only later on that Megan realizes that Marc Hunter is none other than her Hunt and that Marc had broken out of prison because he feared for Megan and little Emily’s life. It is then Sophie learns of the horrors that Megan had undergone at the Denver Juvenile Detention Centre at the hands of the guards who are sworn to protect the lives of those under them violating the lives of so many women. As Sophie and Marc race against time to find Megan and Emily before the determined and corrupt government officials get their hands on Megan and silence her forever, so does the white hot attraction and feelings between Marc and Sophie escalate which left me breathless -almost all the time! Sigh!

Likes: There is nothing like a hot hero to keep the pages turning and Marc is just the epitome of perfect hero material. With his scars and sexy tattoos and his oh so perfect body its a wonder I made it through the story without continuously drooling from the sides of my mouth. Yes, he is that hot. The thing that always astonishes me with every story I read from Ms. Clare is the fact that her heroines are equally appealing. Most of the time heroines tend to get on my nerves one way or the other but I guess Ms. Clare knows just the right ingredients to make her heroines as appealing as the heroes. I loved the combustive passion between Marc and Sophie which were of the eyebrow singeing type. Ms. Clare delivers on all fronts especially with a much needed against the wall scene and an against the car scene which just made my day! And as always loved revisiting the characters from the previous stories which always makes the next book a plus point in my opinion.

Now THAT'S what i'm talkin' about!!!! An AWESOME romantic suspense novel..RIGHT HERE!! The romance and suspenseful story were front and center in this one!! It just didn't seem to be bogged down w/ all the newspaper reporting/investigative stuff like the other two were. It was ALL about Hunt and Sophie and the AWFUL situation they were both in..i LOVED IT!!! I loved the prologue...sooo sweet!!! I loved Hunt...sooo yummy! I loved the romance between Hunt and Sophie...sooo HOT!!! I LOVED IT ALL!!...more
