A very touching short (very short) story. I felt it was amazingly well-written to develop the characters and plot in so few pages. A woman tells the story of her life, including youth, meeting and marrying a husband, developing a farm and birthing and burying a child, but despite the brevity I really felt that I knew the characters and cared for them. Really the story was so complete I don't think it could have been improved by being expanded into a full novel.

In "All I Want," Shayne Parkinson tells a gentle story of love, loss, and carrying on after loss. When I saw this book as a free download for my Kindle, I thought I'd give it a try. To say this was a good read is an understatement. Yes, this is a very short story - I finished it in under 30 minutes - but it is also a very complete story. This is the first time I've read her work, and I find myself eager to read more.

Short read.
A trip down memory lane of sorts.
A story of unfulfilled wishes and secret longing.
I would have enjoyed knowing whether it was completely fictitious or perhaps based on true events.
It could have had a little more depth and seems to be more of an afterthought, but then often that is the distinct charm of the short story.

Kindle:

Still available on the free list over at the amazon kindle store, this is a short novella which I was able to read within one day.

In a few words, this is one of the most heart-felt, touching, sentimental reads I have encountered in a long time. This is sheer elegance in its simplicity.

Well done!

Sadly romantic. Touching. Very human. All of the previous words could describe this nice little short story, but therein lies the problem. It's a short story. As soon as you begin to feel an attachment to the characters they're gone, the story has ended. I certainly would have liked to explore these people farther.

This is a sad, melecolnic tale of a war bride from WWI. Life in New Zealand after the great war. The heart ache of looseing a child in still brith. The joy that comes through is that of a couple in love and committed to living their life together. Everyone needs a good cry sometime.

One married couple after WW I in New Zealand picking up to make a life on a bare land as farmers. It works out so far but life brings out many hardships where Love alone, will not bring the peace back. A nice short story we can all take an example from.

Consider this a short story rather than a novella (only 15 pages), as it was described in one place. It is a very great story, but just as I was waiting for the story to develope further; it was over. This is why I have given it just 4 stars

A short story that I couldn't quite figure out the purpose for it. It fell incredibly flat to me with characters who couldn't be attached to and a storyline that had absolutely no uumph to it. It started..I read 35 pages and it stopped. That's all folks!

Very good, clean book. Easy, quick read (short story). Emotional book. Story about a couple brought together after the Great War and trying to make a life and family on their farm. I will definitely read more Shayne Parkinson books.

it's alright to say the least it's a short story about how once her husband came home from the war, they can't have kids and that's basically what the premise it is about. Just the setting in Australia makes it picturesque.

It was an okay read. I thought it was going to be a little longer from the description. I think I would have liked to have the story develop just a little bit more.
Angie
Very short story, diary format almost. Wish it could have been longer so we could have more character development. Good little story about love and loss.
Charlotte Jones
This read a lot like a diary, documenting the protagonist's life. I found it happy and sad and think that it was a great short read.
Julia
The book only had 39 pages, however thestory line was very good. The book was well written and I enjoyed reading it. I wish there had been more to read.
Barbara
A very short, poignant story of love enduring through tragedy, it could have been developed much more. I found myself wanting to know what else happened in this couple's life.

Wish I had reviewed this when I read it, but I just can't remember much about it.

Touches the heart, especially if you've endured a similar loss.

Again, another lovely story but far too short! I was expecting a novel and was done before I knew it. Hoping its a prelude to another fantastic big book :)
