A very touching short (very short) story. I felt it was amazingly well-written to develop the characters and plot in so few pages. A woman tells the story of her life, including youth, meeting and marrying a husband, developing a farm and birthing and burying a child, but despite the brevity I really felt that I knew the characters and cared for them. Really the story was so complete I don't think it could have been improved by being expanded into a full novel.
In "All I Want," Shayne Parkinson tells a gentle story of love, loss, and carrying on after loss. When I saw this book as a free download for my Kindle, I thought I'd give it a try. To say this was a good read is an understatement. Yes, this is a very short story - I finished it in under 30 minutes - but it is also a very complete story. This is the first time I've read her work, and I find myself eager to read more.
Short read.
A trip down memory lane of sorts.
A story of unfulfilled wishes and secret longing.
I would have enjoyed knowing whether it was completely fictitious or perhaps based on true events.
It could have had a little more depth and seems to be more of an afterthought, but then often that is the distinct charm of the short story.

Kindle:
Still available on the free list over at the amazon kindle store, this is a short novella which I was able to read within one day.
In a few words, this is one of the most heart-felt, touching, sentimental reads I have encountered in a long time. This is sheer elegance in its simplicity.
Well done!

Sadly romantic. Touching. Very human. All of the previous words could describe this nice little short story, but therein lies the problem. It's a short story. As soon as you begin to feel an attachment to the characters they're gone, the story has ended. I certainly would have liked to explore these people farther.
This is a sad, melecolnic tale of a war bride from WWI. Life in New Zealand after the great war. The heart ache of looseing a child in still brith. The joy that comes through is that of a couple in love and committed to living their life together. Everyone needs a good cry sometime.
A very short, poignant story of love enduring through tragedy, it could have been developed much more. I found myself wanting to know what else happened in this couple's life.
