I will most likely not be reading this book, though I love the story.

Why?

Because it was not written by L.J. Smith. I don't think a lot of people realize what this means -- after all, if the writing's good, why not like the story?

As a writer myself, I would be horrified -- as in Saw victims horrified -- if I was fired from my own books. Not only that, but if someone else wrote my characters in my place. It would infuriate me beyond belief.

Ok seriously? Why the hell is everyone hating on this series?????? It's amazing! Some of you need to stop and ask yourself, 'If I hate this series, and think that it died 3 books ago, then why am I looking up the next book and taking time out of my life to write a book review for it?' Not even a ghost writer can fix the damage Smith did to the series with the Return books. Can't someone just let these poor characters rest in peace already, or at least give them different names and call that a non-Vampire Diaries new series? It's not like any of them resemble who they were in the original Vampire Diaries books.

Not even gonna read it if LJ isn't gonna write it. Not gonna let myself buy it. Whoever decided Elena HAD TO end up with Stefan and was okay with firing LJ from writing the books better be pretty frickin' happy with themselves, because that was a crappy move.

I want to like this. Every single book I want to like it, but the thing is, I despise Elena. And I can't support Damon or Stephan, because she flat out says "I love both of you" and they're just like oh ok whatever.
I'm sorry, but that's not ok. If I were in that situation I'd be like pick one of us, stop leading the other on, and if you can't then we'll both move on.

I'm not going to ever read this series again if a ghostwriter is gonna write it. I am curious what will happen next after Midnight and the welfare of Damon too but it would be really disrespecting to all the characters (Elena, Damon, Stefan, ....) if I continue reading. And for the reason L.J got fired, I personally hate it, but on the bigger picture, the quality of her Return trilogy was crappy and cheesy. After reading:

Okay, I have calmed down a little bit after reading this now. I thought this book was good. I would've given this book 4 stars if LJ Smith had written it. Bad things about this book:

The reactions to Damon being alive= Elena was surprised for about a minute and then... nada. Nothing. Zilch. So... she agreed to keep his being alive a secret. Why would she do this? Bonnie and Matt were not surprised at all in my opinion. And Stefan tried to kill Damon. Um.

The Phantom= I did not like this phantom. To me, she seemed like this whiny teenager. (Okay, a whiny teenager that is a spirit that feeds on people's feelings but...) She was just annoying, not terribly frightening like she was meant to be.

Elena= Elena seemed really spoilt in this book but the one thing I didnt like was the way she couldnt choose between Damon and Stefan. I felt like yelling at her 'Just choose Damon you *bleeping bleep*! Stefan is so *bleeping* annoying! I have to admit that I did like Damon in this book and the way that Elena and Damon kissed.

Everything else, except for Bonnie...(God, I will never like that girl)... was fine and I will definitely read the next one.(less)

I found this book to be more forced than the others. It seemed very typical that something would happen. And this time things seemed to end within a week. Or that's the time span it seemed to me. Everything felt just pushed through. That and nobody even seemed to second guess the thoughts and feelings they had. They just accepted them or then ignored them.

She was making Bonnie and Damon closer and I hated that... I really hated that. I wondered if the ghost writer would write the books how I thought they should be written (I know I have no say, they are L.J.'s books and she alone should be the story teller) but I love Damon and I really think he should be the one for Elena. Even though I thought all of this I still told myself I would not read the next books and make up an ending where Damon and Elena would be together and that was that.

So I didn't mark the release date on my phone and I stopped thinking about it all together. I went to walmart one day to pick up a new radio for my car and, like I always do, I walked by the book section just to see what they had out this time. I was just about to leave when I saw it. One lone copy just sitting there. I stopped and stared at it, at first I was ecstatic, the next book was out! Now I could find out how Damon comes back! But then I remembered my pledge and deflated. I took a few steps away, but circled back around and picked it up. 'I'll just read the back and the inside flap and that's it.' I used as justification. Once I started reading I knew I was lost to it. I HAD to find out if Elena and Damon would be together. I just had to! I'm Sorry L.J. Smith, I wish I could have been faithful and just ignored it but since book one I have been in love with your characters! I couldn't just leave it after all those years.

YES! It looks like Damon and Elena have a chance! Its small but still bigger then the one they had last book! I don't hate Bonnie as much as I used to, It would pain me if she died, but that would clear the way for Elena and Damon so I'd be okay with it. The same goes for Stefan, he has never really felt like a full character to me, he is too focused on Elena all the time it feels like that's all there is to him. He has different sides but most of what we see in all of the other books is his love for Elena and his jealousy for Damon, this book gives him a little bit more, but he is still a little too flat to be such a big part of the books, to me anyway, I might just be to Damon centered to see Stefan. Damon and Elena are more fleshed out for me it seems. I know The chance for them to be together is still slim but I will not lose hope! <3 Elena + Damon FOREVER

I just found out that the reason L.J. was fired was because the book publishers wanted it to end with Elena and Stefan. This pisses me off even more! I didn't know that's why they did it! WTF!? I'm going to try this again, though now that I know Elena and Stefan will be together in these next books it will most likely work. I'm NOT buying the next one, no matter how curious I am about the ending, It pisses me off that they would do that to L.J. That was a bad move on their part and I'm not supporting them anymore, If I would have known they had fired her for such a stupid reason I would have never bought the book! Okay I must say I am highly disappointed with this story. I didn't know if the rumors were true or not about L.J. This book is a very good book, I must say. I was skeptical about reading it because there were rumors that L.J. Smith the author of the book was no longer going to write the future books. But I couldn't resist the urge to buy the book.

I love L.J, I love the series, books and show. I don't like the whole Damon/Elena relationship it was built on a lies and deceit so why would I like it, but firing the author because of it is too far. I was prepared to endure my disgust of Delena for the sake of the other characters whom I love.
That being said I just can't leave it the way it was and be okay with that, I will be reading this, and I will be loving every second of it.

When I heard that this book was coming out, I think I died a little inside. I LOVED the first four, got a little bored with The Return trilogy, refused to read the Stefan/Damon spin off stories and have never watched the TV series. And never will. (Hello, they axed Meredith)

La trama è sempre la solita: Fell's Church è una cittadina particolare che attira ogni tipo di entità paranormale buona o cattiva che sia e Elena e i suoi amici dovranno combattere chiunque cerchi di metter in pericolo loro e gli abitanti della loro cittadina.
Rispetto agli ultimi volumi della saga in questo libro si nota un ritorno al passato ovvero ai primi volumi scritta dalla Smith: il rapporto tra Stefan ed Elena è meno sdolcinato e non occupa totalmente il racconto, i personaggi sono ben caratterizzati e vengono meglio presentati i loro punti deboli, risultando più umani ma anche più veri.
I personaggi di Matt, Bonnie e Meredith vengono finalmente risaltati, si riesce ad avere una visione maggiore del loro carattere e di cosa pensano e provano davvero.
Come sempre al centro di tutto c'è Elena, che a volte appare egoista e anche un po' superficiale: non è più la ragazzina bella e perfetta, pagina dopo pagina infatti il lettore ne scopre non solo le debolezze, ma anche i difetti e nota atteggiamenti a volte insopportabili che rendono però il personaggio meno etereo e più umano.
Il racconto è piacevole, ma non eccessivamente avvincente, non ci sono grandi colpi di scena ed è come un'introduzione a ciò che avverrà in seguito nel prossimo volume: l'autore ha come voluto preparare il terreno, come se avesse voluto ricominciare tutto da capo ripresentando i vari personaggi, la cittadina di Fell's Church e introdurre in maniera molto blanda l'arrivo di un nuovo nemico che minaccia la serenità da poco ritrovata. Se l'intento del ghostwriter era quello di riaccendere la curiosità per questa saga devo ammettere che ci è riuscito benissimo!
Lo stile e il linguaggio usati sono semplici, lineari e rendono la lettura piacevole, mai pesante e molto scorrevole...
Un libro questo da leggere in poche ore, magari sotto all'ombrellone con tranquillità e in pieno relax.(less)

Meine Meinung zum Buch:
Das Buch ist sehr gut beschrieben. Man liest aus dem Buch wie Elena, Stefano und ein paar von ihre Freunde wegen dem tod von Damon trauern. Aber was mir nicht so besonders gefallen hat waren die verschiedenste Gefühle von Elena entweder sie möchte Damon oder Stefano oder doch lieber beide. Aber eines Nachts kommt doch ein bekannte Besucher in Elenas Zimmer. (Achtung Spoiler) Es ist Damon, er hat doch überlebt. Aber er konnte nur überleben weil Elena den Stern Zerstört hat im 7 Band wo sich auch die große Sternenkugel befand. Damon hat sich daraufhin von der Sternenkugel die Flüssigkeit sich wieder genährt. In Fell´s Church befindet sich aber auch wieder eine böse Macht die Elena töten möchte (Achtung Spoiler) Ein Eifersucht Phantom befindet sich in Fell´s Church der sich von der Eifersucht der Gruppe ernährt. Der Phantom kommt von dem gleichen Stern an dem Damon gestorben ist. Die Gruppe muss wieder das Böse suchen und es vernichten. Was allerdings richtig komisch war, ist das die Geschehnisse in den letzten Bücher gar nicht mehr passiert sind z.B. Mr. Tanner der Geschichtslehrer ist nicht tot man könnte gerade meinen es spielt in 2 verschiedenen Zeituniversen statt. Unheimlich fand ich als von der Gruppe immer die Namen erschienen sind die in Gefahr schwebten. Das Buch ist sehr empfehlenswert. Was mich aber traurig macht ist das das Buch nicht mehr von Lisa J. Smith geschrieben wird sondern von einem Ghostwriter.

Das Cover sieht ganz ok aus es passt zu den anderen Büchern. Überjaupt passt es zum Roman da es ja für Vampire immer nur die dunkle Seite gibt :)

I was intrigued by this book, though it was obvious Smith wasn't the author. I found so many similarities with the tv show, it felt to me that the authors were doing their best to twist the story and characters Smith originally created to suit the show they created from the premise. Lange musste ich auf die Fortsetzung warten und nun war es endlich soweit! Nachdem mir Band 7 so gut gefallen hat, habe ich sehr hohe Erwartungen in Band 8 gesteckt. Leider wurde ich irgendwie enttäuscht, denn es war so gar nicht das gewohnte Bild, was ich kannte. Nachdem mir Band 7 so gut gefallen hat, habe ich sehr hohe Erwartungen in Band 8 gesteckt. Leider wurde ich irgendwie enttäuscht, denn es war so gar nicht das gewohnte Bild, was ich kannte. Die Geschichte wirkte stumpf, zusammengeklatscht, aber dennoch unterhaltsam und stellenweise spannend, mit hohem Wiedererkennungswert, weswegen ich drei von fünf Sterne für angemessen finde.

Bevor ich eine Rezi schreibe, suche ich mir die Links zur Leseprobe und die Kurzbeschreibung heraus und bin diesmal mehr als verwirrt herumgerirrt. Den ersten Hinweis gab es auf dem Buch selbst, wo steht: "Nach einer Idee von" und dann der Name der Autorin darunter. Zunächst hat es mich sehr geärgert, denn die Bücher waren nunmal zuerst da und nicht die Serie und irgendwie bekomme ich immer wieder das Gefühl, dass viele die Bücher nur lesen, weil sie Vampire Diaries gucken. Lasst es Euch nochmal sagen: Serie und Buch geht meilenweit auseinander... Egal...
Jedenfalls habe ich vorhin gelesen, dass Lisa J. Smith nach Band 7 gar nicht mehr selbst weiterschreiben würde, sondern jemand anders. Den Grund dafür konnte ich nicht finden und ich habe auch absolut kein Verständnis dafür!

Unter diesen neuen Umständen, kann ich leider gar nicht anders, als das Buch aus einer anderen Perspektive zu betrachten, auch wenn ich zum Glück sagen kann, dass es nichts unlogisches gab, alles war stimmig und die Rückblicke detailgenau. Und doch fühlte sich das lesen weniger vertraut an, als bisher... Das ein anderer Autor dahintersteckt, obwohl noch L.J. Smith draufsteht, kann der Grund dafür sein, aber wenn, dann ist es dennoch eine gute Kopie. Ich bin mehr als verwirrt!

Im letzten Band starb Damon, als er Bonnie rettete und ich war sehr gespannt wie es weitergeht, denn auch Elena war ja bereits zweimal tot und lebt wieder. Alles ist möglich in diesen Büchern und man weiß nie was noch kommt. Eigentlich etwas, was mir sehr gefällt... Aber... Ach, keine Ahnung. ^^

Elena und ihre Freunde versuchen wieder in die Normalität zurückzukehren. Nach ihrem Abenteuer in der dunklen Dimension und dem Kampf gegen die Kitsune, die Fell's Church total verwüstet haben, hat Elena mit den Wächtern einen Deal ausgehandelt, der dafür sorgte, dass alle, die in Fell's Church durch die dunklen Mächte gestorben sind wieder lebendig wurden. Die verwüstete Stadt glänzt wieder, die kaputten Häuser sehen wie vorher aus und die Menschen wissen von den Grausamkeiten nichts mehr. Nur Margaret, Elenas kleine Schwester, scheint beide Erinnerungen zu besitzen.
Elena, Stefano, Bonnie, Meredith und Matt können diese Normalität aber nicht wirklich genießen, denn sie erinnern sich an alles und es ist alles andere als leicht vorher toten Menschen nun quicklebendig gegenüber zu stehen und so tun zu müssen, als wäre nie was passiert.
Doch normal ist die Welt noch lange nicht und sie wird es auch nie sein. Als die Freunde Alaric, ihren ehemaligen Lehrer und Meredith' Freund, und dessen Kollegin vom Bahnhof abholen, passiert etwas überraschendes: Sabrinas Schal verfängt sich in der Zugtür und schleift sie mit sich, doch Stefano kann sie in letzter Sekunde retten. Ein Zufall ist es nicht, denn kurz zuvor, als Bonnie sich an einem dornigen Rosenstil gestochen hatte, bildete ihr Blut einen Namen auf ihrem Arm: sabrinasabrinasabrina...

Normalerweise knüpften die Folgebände immer haargenau am letzten Geschehen des anderen Buches an, aber diesmal war es anders. Es gab einen kleinen Rückblick und nun stehen Elenas Gefühle mehr im Fordergrund. Wenn es bisher in den Büchern darum ging Spannung aufzubauen, ist "Jagd im Abendrot" eher ein Geheimnis. Statt, wie üblich, immer mehr auszudecken, verhüllt dieses Buch alles, bis es beim großen Finale alles enthüllen kann. Und ein großes Finale gab es wirklich!
Elena und ihre Freunde müssen sich mit einem sehr grauenvollen Feind auseinandersetzen: Der Eifersucht. Die beschriebenen Gefühle, die die Protagonisten durchleben, sind sehr real, aber passen nicht wirklich zu dem bisherigen Bild der perfekten Freunde.
Leider ging mir besonders Elena auf den Keks, denn dieser "Ich-liebe-beide-aber-den-lieb-ich-mehr-Mist" dauerte einfach zu lange. Dass sie Damon nun mit anderen Augen sieht, ok, aber muss sie deswegen direkt verliebt sein? Denn ich denke nicht, dass sie ihn liebt, aber es passt natürlich perfekt zu so einer Art von Geschichte. Wer mit wem? Eigentlich sollte alles klar sein, ist es aber nicht und das finde ich zu künstlich, denn jeder, der die Bücher mit Sinn und Verstand gelesen hat, weiß wie es ausgehen wird und das man die Geschichte unnötig verlängert, finde ich unmöglich.

Fazit:
Es fällt mir schwer ein vernünftiges Fazit zu ziehen, denn eigentlich hat mich das Buch nicht so enttäuscht, wie es meine Rezi ausdrückt. Vielmehr bin ich enttäuscht so hinter's Licht geführt worden zu sein, wer das Buch jetzt geschrieben hat und wer nicht. Wahrscheinlich hat es meine Meinung dann nochmal verzerrt - zugegeben - aber was ist das denn bitte für eine Art? Überall steht noch Lisa J Smith. Kann man dann nicht offener sein und sagen, wer nun weiterschreibt? (less)
