This was a really easy read. I started this book this morning, read for about an hour and put it down until this evening and just finished it. Total reading time- about 2 and 1/2 hours. Not bad. I've only read one other book by her called "Two Little Girls in Blue" Although that book seemed much bigger because I read it in Large Print. This story was about a little boy who's father is ill, and he is holding onto a St. Christopher's Medal to bring him on Christmas eve. Through a series More...

Meinung:

Always a fan of MHC and have enjoyed everything I've read by her.

I like to read stories of the season around Christmas time and found this
book in a thrift store. While there is some mystery, suspense and thrill
associated with the story, it still ends up being a nice warm Christmas
story of faith, family and hope.

**WARNING: Some spoilers**

Mary Higgins Clark sure had me on my toes with this one!! She is a talented storyteller. There was a lot of action in this short novel that it's hard to believe all of that action was less that 160 pages!

This novel had the perfect amount of suspense and Christmas atmosphere to be one of my favorite novels. It was a heart filled story about the Magic of Christmas and love.

I did sympathize with Cally. I think she did the right thing by More...

This is a cute departure from the normal Clark woman-in-distress-with-two-male-leads formula (not that I don't have a soft spot for that, but...). Since it's the Christmas season now, I was delighted to find this hiding in the back of my bookshelf; took me an afternoon to read it, and the characters were lively enough to be worth following. I did have to put it down at one point and was still thinking of it, which is always a good sign for books, and I might even hang on to this one. It's eno More...

I originally bought this book for holiday guests as a treat to read while visiting, but I had never it. I took it with me to my parents home to read Christmas week. While is wasn't one of her best, I will say it was a perfect book for a quick holiday read. I finished it easily in the week that I was there (stretching the last few pages out to last me the whole week). It wasn't too intense for reading during the joyous holidays. And it wasn't such a page-turner that I didn't want to put it down - More...

Mary Higgins Clark does it again in one of her favorite Christmas novel. A mother of two has a husband in the hospital and is trying to make her kid's Christmas special. Her wallet is stolen and her youngest son saw who did it. He follows the pickpocket to her appartment and confronts her. The pickpockets brother, a criminal who escaped from jail, is already in her appartment looking for money to help him get to Canada. When he hears about the stolen wallet, he demands it, and his sister unwilli More...

This book was really good. It has everything I like in books which is engaging characters and a solid plot. This was my first time reading Clarks work and I enjoyed it a lot. The plot was creative, interesting, and had a few twists thrown in for interest. It had just the right amount of suspense and made me want to read. There were many characters which I sometimes got mixed up, but they were all still well established and had their own unique stories and goals. The plot jumped a lot from chara More...

This is a quick read set in New York City about a family whose father has been diagnosed with leukemia. It is Christmastime and the family has come to NYC to get treatment from a friend of the family.
While the father is in the hospital, the mom takes her two sons to Times Square to see the sights and try to feel a little bit of Christmas cheer. While there she drops her wallet and a woman picks it up. The younger son sees the woman pick up the wallet and chases her........all the way to he More...

Well, I've managed to avoid Higgins Clark, but I couldn't escape her any longer. I grabbed it off the shelf in the cafe in a fit of desperation over something new to read.

Verdict:

She's an engaging storyteller, who can get you involved in the stories and sympathetic to the characters. I can see her telling stories to a crowded room of appreciative listeners.

HOWEVER, does she need to start each new chapter with the full name of the character whose point of view More...

I chose Silent Night from the library because I've seen Mary Higgins Clark books all over the place--the market, the drugstore, bookstores. Anyway I chose this because it's Easter and I thought a holiday book would be fun. Reading this book is like watching a Bruce Willis action flick. Really not much substance but it's fun to read for the short time it takes to get through it. For some reason I had expected a mystery--this was a thriller. But fun just the same. The author makes no pretens More...

Chilling and suspenseful, Silent Night by Mary Higgins Clark, is a 'happy ending' Christmas story. When Brian Dornan disappears from his mother's side on a cold New York Christmas Eve night, her world just about collapses. Her husband, Dr. Tom Dornan, recently diagnosed with leukemia, had life-saving surgery just hours before. She took her two young sons to view the Christmas sights and sounds of New York, in an effort to relieve them all of their stress. In the blink of an eye, Brian is gone. W More...

I don't read Clark as a rule - the victimization of children is not entertaining for me. A friend loaned me the audio book and as it is only 2 CDs, I listened.

The plot is totally predictable and is the outcome. The villian is so evil I was tempted to boo. The children are angels, of course.

The book is worth a listen because of Jennifer Beals, (yes, that Jennifer Beals) who reads the book quite well. I was surprised by the variety and range of her voices.

I've never read a book by Mary Higgins Clark before, so I decided to try this one since it had a Christmas theme and I wanted a holiday book. It was a fast and easy read and although it was based at Christmas time, the actual storyline didn't have much to do with Christmas itself. Overall though, it was a decent read, it kept me interested and I liked the somewhat predictable ending.

I read this the morning after Christmas. It was an enjoyable quick read. I am usually not a fan of Mary Higgens Clark but this one kept my attention. It's the story of a family who is in NY for Christmas. The father has leukemia and is having an operation to remove his spleen. The mother and two boys, Brian and Michael, are spending some time looking at the Christmas decorations in the city. Taking a break from the tention, they are watching a fiddler play Christmas carols. When the younger bo More...

I picked this for an 'airplane read' while on a trip. The trip just happened to be to New York City and I read this on the way home. It was really fun that this is set in NYC and I knew the places it was talking about :)

I like Mary Higgins Clark; she is dependable. There wasn't as much suspense for me in this story as the other book s of hers that I have read. But her books are always clean and her women are strong :)

I was looking for a way into some Christmas spirit, and I happened to pick this up off my apartment buildings "gimme" pile. I remember liking Mary Higgins Clark, so I gave it a try. I guess my reading tastes have changed because I found this story extrememly formulaic and predictable with no real sense of suspense. I finished it simply because I started it and it's such a short little book, I figured why not.

Not too bad. First book that I have read from this author since the late 1970's. I always find her books interesting but they seem to be more descriptions of what is happening than actual descriptive writing, if that makes any sense. All in all, a nice little Christmas story abouth faith and hope. I don't think I even finished my coffee before this little story was told-it is a very quick read.

This is one of the best summer reading books I have ever read; and one of the best books (along with Warriors) I've ever read. This was a choice for a summer reading book, and it was so good that when I decided to start it to see if I liked it, I ended up liking it a lot and finishing the book in a few days, and school hasn't even ended yet! I recommend it to anyone, and you don't have to read it at Christmastime.

this book was pretty good. it was a little confusing when they were skipping 2 other people in the story though, but other wise it was alright. i like how the characters handled their situations like cally stole a billfold and she said that she was just goin 2 look in the billfold and see who it belonged 2 and mail it so i like how she handled that.

This book is alright to read if that's the last thing in the house and you're stuck. Poorly written. It seems like it follows a plot line too much. I hate it when authors write out before they write a book exactly what's going to happen and then write it. Just let it flow!! That's what this book is like. It reads like a high-school assignment. I wouldn't recommend.

This book will have you both crying and on the edge of your seat. The story is both thrilling and heart warming making you think how far would you go to save someone you love. I recomend this to anyone who needs a quick read that is a thriller. It is a great story and has unusual charectors.

I was almost 40 pages into this book when I realized I had seen a TV version. I still couldn't remember how it eneded. This is a short book and a fast fun read. I liked the little boy and how the author was able to reveal his thoughts by making them as simple as a 7 year old would think.

MaryHiggins Clark is my favorite mystery novel writer. She always writes a clean and intriguing story. I read this one almost every year around Christmas time(especially on a cold snowy night...)It's quick too so perfect when I don't have a lot of time but I want to slip away for an hour or two.

I'm always intrigued by mystery books, so I enjoyed this book. The author sets up the suspense from the very beginning, so I couldn't put the book down until I finished.

A con to this book is that you can guess what's probably going to happen from the very beginning.

A very easy read, but totally not boring. A good mystery set at Christmas that's good to read all warm and snug in bed on a cold December night. Does have you thinking through the story, so though it's short, it has what's needed from a book. I would recommend this to others.
