This novel is, of course, based off the outstanding graphic novel done by Mark Waid and Alex Ross, and is its equal in every way. While it may not have the visuals that the comic provided, it adds a depth of detail to the story that the comic simply couldn't reach. For my money, they're both outstanding. And if you can find a copy of the full cast audio book, do it.

Date read is a total guess.
I am not, as a rule, a big fan of novelizations of comic books. I find them to be at best, enjoyable, and at worst, insufferable. This one, however, stands out head and shoulders above the rest. The author doesn't just regurgitate the source material, he uses the advantage of hundreds of blank pages to expand things, to explore in to the nooks and crannies of the plot and see what's out there. While Alex Ross's illustrations are impressive from a technical point of view, I feel like I am looking at a Norman Rockwell painting.

Awesome novelization of the graphic novel. Best comic book turned into a novel that I've read!
