If I had to limit my review to one word, I would say this book is "cute." It didn't do a whole lot for me, but it was still an enjoyable read. Obviously, I am way out of the intended target group to find much in common with this book, but I can see why my students held it hostage for so long. I haven't been able to read it until now because it was constantly going missing off the book shelf.

Three sisters wish upon a fire on a stormy night, and experience varying stages of adolescence alongside their sisters. The middle sister in early junior high primarily narrates the story, with interludes from the other two sisters. These note book scribblings and script-styled dialogue jut into the narrative, and whether a reader will appreciate them is a matter of personal taste. While some may find interludes about fortune telling or spy codes fun or cool, they help elongate a light tween rea...more
I quite enjoyed this series. As the author of the Judy Moody and Stink books, Megan McDonald has already shown her grasp of elementary age children and how they think and act. This third book in the Sisters Club series shows that she grasps equally well the challenges of middle school and the changes that make this time of life so confusing.

A (long-ish) charming story of three sisters who really genuinely enjoy and appreciate each other. As far as boy-girl relations go, each sister is of a slightly different mindset about those... Alex, the oldest desperately wants her first kiss, Stevie is starting to reevaluate whether or not she thinks boys are gross, and Joey, the youngest, wholeheartedly prefers frogs to boys. Alex and Stevie definitely seemed to grow and mature - at least a little bit - over a short-ish period of time. Joey d...more
Stevie Reel is a 12 year old girl who's disgusted by boys and would rather help her younger sister catch frogs. So, what happens when the new guy at school likes her? Chaos, and lots of it. Her sisters have their own problems to deal like their own crushes. When the new guy comes over and surprises her with a kiss, Stevie is confused and shocked. After a while, she comes to realize that boys can wait and living in the present and spending time with family is way more important.

This was the 6th book I have read by Megan McDonald in less than two weeks. Each was an excellent read. The Sisters Club books are longer than either the Judy Moody or Stink Moody books. In fact there is a clear progression in length and difficulty of books from Stink, to Judy to Sisters. These stories revolve around a family with three daughters; I grew up the oldest of three boys and now have three children myself. I can only hope that as my children age, and we read these books together, they...more
Dear Ms. Greenhouse,
I got this book from the book fair. It is called Cloudy With a Chance of Boys by Megan McDonald. It is about a girl Stevie Reel. She is a middle sister out of three siblings. She doesn't know much about boys and for her she is ok with that. But ever since she's gotten older things are changing at school. People are starting to get in relationships. A boy named Owen in her Earth Science class seems to keep looking at her. The thing is Stevie doesn't really want a boyfriend. He...more

I thought this book was sooooo good because........THE sisters club (Joey, Stevie, and Alex)are stuck at their house doing nothing in a really bad storm, so they pull something out of their rooms something special! so they throgh them int there fire. After that night they go to school and tell their story.when they get home Joey has a journal for random stuff, so they read some things about... frogs, hand lines and more! They also go out looking for frogs because Joey is obbsesed with them.

She also hear's that the boy she likes is going to audition for the role of Romeo and if she get's the part of Juliet they would get to kiss. So they audition and she finds out that the boy got the part of Romeo but she did not get her part of...more
This wholesome and sweet series continues in the third installment, Cloudy with a Chance of Boys. Weather as a metaphor for many situations and emotions adds a clever element to the story, and Stevie has a science project on clouds that correlates nicely. Tween girls who can relate to feeling slightly left behind when friends start to get boy crazy... (click for full review http://www.storysnoops.com/detail.php...)
Great book for tweens looking for realistic fiction about family or school! This is the story of 14 year-old Alex, 12 year-old Stevie and 10 year-old Joey; all three sisters have distinctly different personalities in this story about young love. Alex is a drama queen, Stevie is the practical one and Joey is a scientist and list maker. Fans of the Penderwick sisters and/or Allie Finkle will like this one, too.
This is a great series for upper elementary girls who are looking for realistic fiction with a funny edge. I enjoy Megan McDonald's style, but Judy Moody can feel a little young for 4th-6th graders. This book gently starts exploring some of the things tweens and teens are into, but is still firmly rooted in J as opposed to YA.
Like the mixture of formats, some doodles, some traditional text, some screenplay type text. Appealing story for girls, with plenty of talk about boys and first kisses. Still, very clean for 3rd-5th grade.

"Sometimes I think I am Judy Moody," says Megan McDonald, author of the Judy Moody series, the Stink series, and THE SISTERS CLUB. "I'm certainly moody, like she is. Judy has a strong voice and always speaks up for herself. I like that."
For Megan McDonald, being able to speak up for herself wasn't always easy. She grew up as the youngest of five sisters in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Her father, an...more
