This is a beautifully illustrated story of identity as a man rediscovers life through the eyes of an adolescent. The story is astounding and one of Taniguchi's greatest successes and triumphs.

This is the second time I read this graphic novel, and once again I'm struck by the gentle power of this slow-paced, emotionally hard-hitting gem of a tale. If you are a fan of Haruki Murakami's novels and short stories, then this is the graphic novel for you, combining fantastical elements with a story that is essentially about love and family.

A middle aged Japanese family man travels home to the town he grew up in, and is for some reason transfered back to his own self at age 14. After the in

A gripping and haunting tale about a middle-aged man coming to terms with his childhood and with his relationship to his family (past and present).

The mechanism of the story is rather classical and will remind one of Back to the Future or Coppola's film Peggy Sue Got Married (there may even be a reference to the latter in the book dedication in the end), but Jiro gives a fresh take on the genre by focusing on the possibility of personal change.

The character's hope that he might be able to change

This is the kind of Manga that I would have tossed out the windows in my teenage years.

Why? Because on the surface, there's not much happening.

Think the classic Hollywood movie "Big" with Tom Hanks: grown-up man magically becomes boy again and experiences the world from his adult perspective. The major difference: the protagonist travels back to his own childhood at a moment when his father threatens to leave the family forever.

What I love about this story is the emotions it evokes: this manga h

pas baca ini, sempat kepikiran, ini penulis mau bawa pembacanya kemana sih. tapi endingnya....eeq abis. saya gak bisa nebak soalnya kalau soal time machine gini kan kalau masa lalunya berubah masa depannya juga kan ya, nah si tokoh ini kan ''tanpa sengaja'' mengubah cerita masa lalunya, trus gimana dengan masa depannya?
