This book is a picture book and is for the age group of N. It did not win any awards. This book is filled with colorful pictures and different shapes so that a child can identify with it. The way the author wrote this book, he wrote it in a way that if a child could not figure out the word, by looking at the picture the child could look at the picture and figure out what the word says. The characters in this book is very important because when the young children are being read to, they will recog ...more

“Big Bird at Home”, created by Ernie Kwiat is a picture book for nursery aged children. This book suits children in nursery because each page contains one simple sentence and the picture demonstrates what the sentence said. Also, “Big Bird at Home” has characters such as, Big Bird, Oscar, and Grover and many children in nursery are familiar with these characters in Sesame Street. No official reading numbers for this book, but the sentences are very simple and the text is large. Here are some sample sentences.

Big Bird sweeps the floor.
Abby mops the floor.
Big Bird folds his blanket.

For all but the first chapter there is an introductory paragraph for adults to read. This paragraph gives the title and describes what the section is about. An example title would be: Big Bird Cleans.

But what kids are going to love is Abby and Big Bird, Oscar and Grover and The Count!

I love these "Brand New Readers." They're great for the very earliest readers. They have just a few short words on each page, and it's easy to tell what's going on by looking at the pictures, and they're well written.

It's fun to see the Sesame Street characters, but this one isn't quite as funny as some of the other ones.
