So...applause for the eco-friendly message and conservation biology stuff, but the writing is average and I kind of despise the protagonist who, in the part that I read, is whiny, insecure, and childish. Granted this is a book for children, but shouldn't we be giving them better examples than a boy-shark whose personality reminds me of playground bullies and who broke a law for the sake of a snack? Aidan and I read this one together.... one chapter at a time! It's somewhat of an advanced book for a six year old (probably more appropriate for GR 3 - 6) but it was all about sharks so he loved it. This book (part of a new series) is all about shark "shivers", groups of sharks that roam the ocean and fight each other for territory and power. Book Review: I nelieve that this was a great book. As a whole iI learmed a lot more about the creatures of the sea and what many of them have to do to survive. In the beginning Gray and Barkley had to depart from their family's do to a shark attack that was unknown by their region. Groups of sharks are called squadrons. I really enjoyed this book and I am now on kingdom of the deep.

Because Gray is such a huge shark for his age, he often sneaks off to find more food when he's not supposed to, putting his shiver in danger--and this eventually leads him to be exiled. I was pleasantly surprised when I read this. I won it through Firstreads and I was expecting a warriors cat experience, except with sharks, but it was better than that. I actually found myself wanting to know what might happen next and I liked the development of the shivers of sharks. Because it was a middle grade book, it is an easy read, and a bit cheesy at that, but still enjoyable. It was an ARC, so there were some mistakes obviously. Very amusing. A sharks exploits in the undersea world filled with strife, fear, and hope. Well written, flows well with few confusing points. Is readable and the characters are suited for a wide range of ages. I personally prefer a more intelligent protagonist though. And a few events were a stretch, but excusable. Good use of diction and dialogue. Made this book funny and enjoyable.
I have a published copy of Shark Wars and the printing errors I see mentioned in other reviews are almost completely fixed. I think I saw two in the entire book.
This would be only a three star book if I was rating it solely on my experience but I gave this book to my nephew(age 10)and he really enjoyed it. My 8 y/o has a major obsession with sharks, and this one didn't disappoint him. It seems we are on to book 2 in the series! It is a bit above-level for early elementary. I would suggest it for 3-5th grades.
My son (5th grade) LOVES the story behind this book! The main character may be unusually large Grey Reef Shark or a prehistoric survivor - a mystery. Too bad the sequel does not arrive until the Fall.
If only! Great idea but its reading level is way above the audience it would draw and no 4th or 5th grader would want to be seen with a book with that cover art.
What a great read! Its one of the most unique and creative young adult books ive read in awhile. Love how it introduces oceanography in an extra fun way.

I read this to my boys and they loved it as well. i'm looking forward to reading the rest to my boys!
Gray is the biggest shark in his "clan" and he follows a crab for lunch, but that was a bad idea. He follows it so far that he goes to an area where his mom does not want him to go. That is also Goblil's territory. Gray's mom see's him and takes him to a place like a court house. Now he is banished from the Coral Shiver. Not only that but Goblin wants to eat Gray. WHAT WILL HAPPEN NEXT???
I think this book teaches kids to always listen to their parents or you could end up in a lot of trouble.

very cute kids book. Perfect for 3/4th grade. Great lessons about friendship and doing the right thing.
SHARK WARS is stupid, and nothing special. The main character is average, weak, and for lack of better word-lame. And the guy's writting about a SHARK! He lives in the ocean. In my experience, it's less confusing to read a book about humans (or land animals) because of all the made-up terms like "Greenie".

Besides some basic biological errors, I thought it was a fun read for a kid's book.
This has to be one of the dumbest books ever written. Enough said.

Honestly? I hated this book. It's getting 2 stars only because my 7-year-old LOVED it. Unfortunately, he's not quite a strong enough reader just yet to have managed it on his own, so it was our bedtime story book for several weeks. I usually like kids books, but this one? Notsomuch. I get why it's popular with boys my son's age, but it has pretty much no redeeming qualities for my own demographic.
