Somewhere in the middle of book three is when I start to wonder: does anyone out there actually read a standard heroic journey myth with most of their attention on the main character? After all, one knows exactly what's in store for Garion. It's hardly a spoiler if I tell you he's going to tromp in and out of every kingdom on the continent before heading off to fight the final battle.

No, it's not the hero who's the key player in the heroic journey. The real action's off on the sidelines, whe...more

I read the Bellgraid and the Malloreon about 10 years ago now, so my memory isn't up to a synopsis of the series or anything, but I did highly enjoy them then, they still grace my shelves now, and I hope to reread them in the near future.

These books are great for the reader that enjoys fantasy series reading (so if you prefer a one off, try something else). They develop an amazing story and history that kept me engaged. The two series are intimately related/connected. The world is more of...more

The book opens with a glimpse into the vastness of the universe Eddings has created here. Mythology sets the tone of this story and adds a vast perspective to the doings of these characters. The reader meets a young, unassuming boy named Garion, who has no idea of his destiny, although Eddings tastefully reveals glimpses of said destiny to the reader. We follow Garion and his Aunt Pol and other characters through the beginning of the exciting journey that lasts through all five of the books of T...more

The Belgariad kind of seems like the Sword of Truth Lite. It's good epic fantasy, with a smattering of Good vs. Evil philosophy. Although the Belgariad is not as in-depth and psychologically complete as the Sword of Truth (although the Belgariad does a great job of creating a sense of history), it is also about 1/3rd as long as the Sword of Truth. There's something to be said for being concise >.>

i have read this series about 5/6 times and i still love it every single time!!! you can never get tired of eddings' sarcastic humour, or his vivid descriptions. this book made me realise that no matter how insignificant you may feel at a particular point in your life, you will achieve a greatness that is suited to your personaility and character.

cheesy rubbish i know, but just read it!!

I Love the David Eddings Pawn of Prophecy Series. The story of the young boy who doesn't know he is the center of the entire series is so captivating for me and I love to watch all of the love stories that are intertwined throughout the series. It has just the right amount of action and romance strewn throughout it to keep my interest. Loved this series.

I loved these books. I know that David Eddings wanted to make a point that history keeps repeating its self but I found that it bugged me a little bit. That is the only thing that I did not like all that much. The writing and stories are amazing and I will read this series over and over again. This series is right up there with the best.

This is the one that finally convinced me to stop reading anything by Eddings. I gave him a valiant try, since he is so popular, but unfortunately his stories are unoriginal, his dialogue contrived, and the characters are unidimensional. This might be entertaining as youth literature, but it should not be marketed to adults.

Again, this volume continues the story of Garion and his compatriots as they enter into more unfriendly territory in their quest for the Orb of Aldur. I remember a few memorable moments, but other volumes in the story have stayed fresher in my memory. Would give it 3.5 stars, were it an option.

Possibly my favorite book in the Belgariad series. I'll never forget the scene with Garion and the dead foal, in the cave. At the time, it was one of the most magical scenes I'd encountered in fantasy, more moving even than the grand climax of the series that came in the fifth book.

Good, too. The first time I read this series was when I borrowed a book club edition from a lady I worked with at my first job. It was a set of two cloth-bound books with all five short novels in them.

These books were my favorite when I was in high school. I read them over and over, I especially loved the characters and the humor. I keep them around as they are old friends.

Great series! Some of the books are better than others, but you have to read them all to get through the series and they are all worth reading.
