In classic fan-girl fashion, I put this on hold as soon as it was entered into our library's catalog. I've been avidly following Ellen's work ever since I read the first book of this series several years ago. While this is the end of the series, it serves as a reminder that there really is no end to addiction. Whereas the first two books follow Kristina through her devastating dance with addiction and relapse, this one takes place years later with her eldest children telling their stories. There...more
I'm not quite sure what made me not like Fallout as much and the other Ellen Hopkins books.
Maybe
it was that the characters all seemed to experience the same
plot only with different people.
I'm
not quite sure, but I think it goes something like this: freakishly
sensitive boy meets bland girl. They gawk at each other's
perfection for a few sentences and then they have sexay tyme, eh,
yes? But
Just
when you think they're ready to skip off into the sunset of meth
and teen pregnancy, oooooooooooo...more

Taking place about nineteen years after the conclusion of Glass, Fallout picks the story back up in the eyes of three of her children: Hunter, still living in Reno with his grandparents and longing to know who his father is; Autumn, an OCD-inflicted teen living in Texas with her father's family and knowing nothing of her mother or that side of the family; and Summer, a girl torn between two boys and living in the foster care system in California. All three...more

I have been a fan of Ellen Hopkins' books since I was 15 (so 5 years) and I was so looking forward to when the FINAL book in the Crank series was to come out. However, when I found out that it was going to be from Kristina’s children point of views I was a little disappointed. At first I had a hard time getting into the story because I didn’t know where she was going to take the plot of the story. It also felt like there was all this build up, towards the end, about the siblings being reunited a...more
Ah, yes. Ellen Hopkins. You see, I'm a little late in the game here reading the Crank series. When I was in high school these books were extremely popular, therefore it was impossible to get them at the library. I'd read burned (more on that later) and detested it, so I put the Crank series at the very bottom of my "to read" list.
A few weeks ago, out of boredom, I finally read Crank and Glass. I liked them, I did. Went through them both in less than a day. It was only natural that I read Fallou...more

The storyline of this book skips almost 15 years from the end of Glass. (Hopkins said this was the last of the series.) It is told from the point of view of three of Kristina's children (she has a total of five children, all of them with issues resulting from her drug use). There were a lot of characters in this book, with shifting view points every nine or ten chapters, so you had to pay attention to who the narrator was in order to keep up with the story (the change in font with each new chara...more

In this third book of the trilogy, Kristina’s three oldest children take the spotlight. Raised by Kristina’s parents, Hunter is now in college and struggles with his desires to be unfaithful to his girlfriend, with whom he lives. He enjoys smoking pot, and doing other drugs. Autumn doesn’t know much about her mother. She was taken in by her paternal aunt and grandfather when she was two and her father went to jail. Now he’s being released and her aunt is getting married, so Autumn is feeling aba...more
I thought this book was written wonderfully. It was about a young girl who became a meth addict and along her journey she gave birth to five children. Many of them got separated. One went with his grandparents, one in foster care, and one with her dad. They all have very similar characteristic and its very interesting to learn about how thy grow up. In some way they all resemble their mother who is the one person they never want to be. In the end, they all get together for Christmas and realize...more
This is by far my favorite book by Ellen Hopkins. No doubt.
The third and final sequel to the book "Crank", "Fallout" is the knot that ties everything together. The book is divided into three speakers, Kristina's children: 19 year old Hunter, and teenagers Summer and Autumn. Because of Kristina's childish acts and her selfish ways, these children have been given off to other families, other relatives: left to be cared for by anyone but their birth mother. As the story goes on, we learn that despi...more

Fallout by Ellen Hopkins
I loved the way Hopkins
Finished the crazy roller coaster,
Fictionalized portrayal of her daughter.
Even though Kristina barely makes an appearance
It highlights the way
Her kids see her. Mere glimpses.
The descriptions of how Meth affected
The lives of Kristina’s kids
Were at times dramatic and
Made you sympathize with them.
Hunter struggles with trying to maintain
Himself faithful with his girlfriend

I have read (or am currently reading) every single one of Ellen Hopkins books. Fallout, while following the construct of a few of her other books (Impulse, Tricks) in that it contains multiple points of views, is quite different when stacked against the first two books in the Crank Trilogy. From the first page of Crank, I was hooked on the intensity, darkness and rawness of her characters (and by this I mean through all of the books that I read following Crank). Fallout operates as a companion t...more
GREAT ADDITION TO A GREAT SERIES!
Crank, will always be the best book in the series for me. Hopkins started the series off about Kristina. A good girl-gone bad who got herself hooked on "The monster" commonly known as CRANK. the series goes on to add GLASS as Kristina just gets worse ad worse with her sad epidemic and addiction to drugs and sex.
Hopkins stated that she "wanted to give the children of Kristina a voice also. so readers can see how Kristina's choices effected her 5 children." And bo...more

Hunter, Autumn, and Summer(three of Kristina Snow’s five children)live in different homes, with different guardians and different last names. The only thing they have in common is a predisposition for addiction and a host of troubled feelings toward the mother who barely knows them, a mother who has been riding with the monster, crank, for twenty years. This book is often referred to as 'Crank #3' because Kristina is the character in the original Crank book, who fights for her life against a mon...more
This book was a fantastic way of Hopkins wrapping up the first two in the series. It was very powerful and told so much more of what happened to the main character, Kristina. I was able to relate to the book on many levels from being in the foster care system myself and being abused by trusted ones. The book is written in a way that gives the reader a way to relate. Be it a love sick teenager, a lonely abuse victim, a parent who just doesn't know what to do... everyone can relate somehow and if...more
This was my favorite of the Crank trilogy, because in this story, three of Kristina's five children are given a voice. I felt this was a strong way to finish, because it shows the reader how an addict's behaviors and choices go so much deeper than their own lives. Hunter, Kristina's firstborn, is 19 in Fallout and struggling with personal relationships, deep hurt, and anger. Autumn is one of Kristina's daughters who also tells pieces of the story and glimpses of her life as she struggles to fit...more
Fallout by Ellen Hopkins was an amazing book. Although I was a little disappointed on how it ended, I thought it was a book definitely worth reading.
It was about the live of Kristina's (main character in other books like crank, and burned, also by Ellen Hopkins) 3 children and how they have grown up in foster care or with other family because Kristina couldn't keep them because of her bad choices with drugs.
Hunter- who has grown up with Kristina's parents is the oldest out of the three and he k...more

I started reading Ellen Hopkins books when I was in 7th grade (2009) and have been in love with them ever since. I have read every one of her books and they taught me so much about the life of people who do drugs and how their choices negatively effect families. They were all a real eye opener, especially the Crank series.

It was an amazing conclusion in my opinion. I think it was equal to Crank (and if you already know me off of Goodreads, I didn't enjoy Glass as much), so it is my FOURTH favorite book of all-time! It could've been better with two little changes:
1) Hunter, Summer, and Autmun not being so . . . HATEFUL towards Krisitina!
2) Having SOME more loose ends tied up (WAS Autumn pregnant? Did Bryce accept that?, etc.)
BUT, I understand why #1 was done, but like Leanne, I didn't like it.

I’ll ‘fess’ up from the outset that I have never been a huge fan of Ellen Hopkins. But this is a novel that is ambitious in scope and does push the reader’s emotional buttons very skillfully. Hopkins does know how to tear up the scenery when it comes to painful and gritty themes like drug or sexual abuse. Her readers will love this book.

Fallout is a captivating story that is addicting from the beginning. All three children have a different story of despair and they all have 1 connection. Kristina. With her as a mother how could you even pretend to live a normal life? I love that this book goes back and forth betwee all three stories and that they all have very different paths and in the end all end up at that same table for Thanksgiving dinner. Kristina is a terrible mother and it's actually ironic to read her story as a tenage...more

In Fallout, the third book in the series that started with Crank, centered on meth addict Kristina Snow, Hopkins moves on to show the effect Kristina's selfish ways still have on her children, and covers a wide spectrum of emotional and psychological problems. Fallout is told through three narrators: Hunter, Kristina's first child, born of rape and trying to deal with rage; Autumn, who struggles with OCD and turns to alcohol to get her through a major life change; and Summer, who is unaware that...more
I cannot describe how inspiring and absolutely escapist Hopkins' work is. I have never been in a place to experience most of any of her diverse characters situations, BUT her writing inspires so much emotion and heartfelt hurt, anger, and compassion for the characters that it doesn't matter what my life experiences have been.
She is magic. Her books cannot come fast enough for me to consume. Each time I have a release date for a book of hers, I need to block out that day to read it, they're too...more

Some spoiler-ish material from the first two books...nothing major, but if you haven't read book one and two you may not want to read on.
The last book in the Crank trilogy. Overall , I would give the trilogy a five plus star rating...I had a couple of issues with this book. I still really really enjoyed it, just not as much as the first two.
