With winter fast approaching, one of the squat bears sets off to trade the family cow for bread and butter, returning instead with a single magic bean. But one bean isn't enough to feed even one squat bear, let alone seven! As their hunger - and the snow - sets in, the bears are visited by a smooth-talking cat in boots. He's got a bag full of bread and a few tricks up his ...more

Totally charming fractured variations of riffs on fairytales. ;) You can feel that they don't originate in amerika, but in a good way. Bravo's illustrations are quirky and approachable - funny in and of themselves.

Still entertaining--the formula is still working, though I'm not sure how much longer he can keep it up with it becoming tired.

The Seven Squat Bears are a comical yet lovably irritating mash-up of several fairy tales. While ignoring the well-intentioned advice of the third little pig, they build a house that will hopefully keep them safe and warm for the winter. Unfortunately they soon get tired of their only source of food, milk from their cow. So one little bear heads into town to trade it for some other food. If you know your fairy tales, I am sure you can guess what comes next?! The fairy tale fiasco continues with ...more

This is the second book I have read in this hysterical picture book/graphic-novel/fairy-tale mash up and I can’t say enough praise about them! Kids will LOVE the super funny comedy that spoofs numerous beloved classic stories including: Hansel and Gretel, The Three Little Pigs, Jack and the Bean Stock, and Little Red Riding Hood. Young and not so young kiddos will love reading these quirky tales again and again.

I read this to the husband because it was cute and he likes to pretend he's three. This was a cute story, that has the bears being duped by Puss in Boots while they're all looking for food. Little Red Riding Hood, Hansel and Gretel, and the Big Bad Wolf all make an appearance as well as the magic bean/magic beanstalk. It's all in good fun and child friendly, it's a nice read for both young and old.

The Squat Bears are hungry, starving even when Puss in Boots comes to their door. He promises to help them find food. The bear that was unwise enough to take the last piece of food sets out with the cat to find food. This leads to an encounter with Little Red Riding Hood and Hansel and Gretel.

This book is perhaps the best of the three. It still doesn't make it very good. Passable at best.

Another story about the Seven Squat Bears that also features characters from Puss in Boots, Hansel & Gretel, Jack and the Beanstalk and Little Red Riding Hood. The story featured portions from all the fairy tales and had a really interesting interpretation of who Little Red Riding Hood is. It seeks to explain why the Bears hibernate (they had trouble finding food in the winter). I found it very funny and liked it even more then I thought I would.

Just terrific. Ties together a dozen fairy tales in a really clever way. Wonderful art. Perfect for a fan of graphic novels reading to a kid.
