She said she killed them because they were monsters.

Mary Blanc walked into the party with a loaded shotgun. In the blink of an eye she blew two people away. She wanted to kill more, but was stopped by her best friend, Angela Warner, and the police. The next day, when Angela visits Mary at the jail, she asks why she did it. Mary responds, "Because they were no longer huma

I read this book when I was 11. All I remember are batlike creatures and lots of teenage sex. I ask nothing more.

Just read this book a few nights ago, and oh-my-gosh, I was so surprised with this book! I couldn't sleep so I was desperately just trying to find a book to read, when I found this one. Now nobody in my family knows how this book ended up in our house, but I am so glad it did! I'm not really into paranormal stories because most of them are just really stupid these days, but this one sucked me right in. This was a pretty good book and I am now definitely a fan of Christopher Pike as I have seen h...more

I have always been a fan of Christopher Pike and this book did not disappoint. I loved how the focus was on the supernatural elements going on rather than spending so much time on the romance. It allowed the focus to be on Angela as a character rather than her strange relationship with Jim. I also liked how the ending wasn't cut and dry. The fact that the ending was not picture perfect contributed to its appeal. I do wish that this book had been a bit longer. It would have benefitted from anothe...more

This book is the best since he beginning there is action it all starts with a girl named Angela Warner. She is sitting on a couch at a party with all the polular people when her friend: Mary Carlson walks in with a loaded shotgun and starts shooting at people first she aims at a boy named Todd Green and aims at his midsection and fires. Tod groans in pain as his guts are plastered on the wall behind him. Next she aims for Kathy Baker and Hits her a the top of her head and blows off the top of he...more

I used to read Christopher Pike in 6th grade. I remember that my teacher had a box of them we could borrow..I read a lot back then (big surprise) but I don’t think I got through all of his (or R.L. Stine's) books, simply because I didn’t have access to them..they were mostly only in the book catalogs and I had no $ for that! So I read this one now as an adult. It stands up well to adult reading. I was surprised how sad it was..kind of depressing..and there were some things brought up that I woul...more

"They were no longer human..."

This is my ultimate favorite out of all of Pike's books, second only to his equally terrifying horror masterpiece, "Whisper of Death".

"Monster" is very well written. It includes all the good ingredients of a classic horror novel, freaky metamorphosis included. Sometimes, it borders on downright horrifying. The main characters, as they struggle with the basic aspects of humanity and their new hunger are realistically done. This book does hint at evil, but it also off...more

I love Pike’s spare, 80’s teen sci-fi horror books, and if you go into it expecting to be entertained more than intellectually engaged, then you won’t be disappointed. This one’s about a town’s water supply tainted by a space organism that came in on a meteor hundreds of years ago. Who drinks the most water in town? You guessed it — the jocks! The organism is really an alien life form that takes over all of the main character’s friends. Great suspense sustained throughout. Fast moving and enjoya...more

I loved the story!Ive read two other Christopher Pike books but this is definitely my favorite.

Its basically a story about a girl (Mary) who goes to her boyfriends (Jim) party with a gun and she shoots 2 people then tries to kill Jim.
She fails to do so and the police catch her. When her best friend (Angela) visits her to ask why she did was she did she told her because they weren't human anymore.
Of course Angela didn't believe her at first. But then her research takes her to beliefs she never e...more

Another great Pike book! A great one to read in the month of October! I got annoyed with Angela very easily. She just continued to talk about wanting to kiss Jim. She was obssesed and I guess that was out of her control, but you never figure that out. Kevin was one of my favourite characters, so what happened to him sorta depressed me. The reasons that this got 3 stars instead of 4 is because of how annoying Angela got. Now every time I'm non-stop hungry, I'm going to think of this book. The rea...more

still sitting in my closet tucked away in a milk crate,I've read this book twice, loved the characters so much. was also my first taste of a sex in a book, when really there was no real sex in it, but reading it I felt bad lol was pretty young as I recall so when I first got my hands on it. was a great read!

This book has been one of my most favorite book of all time. The book starts off with a lot action and makes you question it a lot. During a party a girl came in with a gun and started to blow people up because she thought the people have already turned into monster. She is correct and after a while, she does discover that in the lake there is this kind of organism that would turn human into these type of monster.
What i like most about this book is the ending. It ended with the main character tu...more

Wow...this was just... a very different read. It was fast paced and very enthralling at parts and just wrong at others. I'm still not sure how I feel about this one and it's been over 7 years since I've read it. Bottom line NOT FOR KIDS!!!!!

This is an entertaining Christopher Pike, not one of his deeper ones, but very good not the less. It begins in big drama with a massacre at a party and goes on to unravel a supernatural mystery. Good for a fun read.

Is there really monsters? Yes, in this book. It brings wonders and mysteries alive and would pretty much bring you to a complete new competitive world.
Angela, this teenage girl fights through flesh eating monsters who crave for humans and turn them into monsters to increase population and take over the world. They pretend to be human and sexually take over human's body by spitting blood on them. Can it be true? Nobody believes Angela when she tries telling people but of course Angela didn't ev...more

I disagree with the classification of this book as young adult. IMO, this book is more juvenile adult, with a slightly pulpy odor. The horror YA genre has really taken off with well written, lyrical, deeply moving stories like A Monster Calls, The Reapers are the Angels, and Rot and Ruin. This book is a pale, often silly imitation.

Not the best of Pike's, but entertaining. The beginning was more compelling than the end. Mostly because it felt ominous, and of course, once the scary thing steps into the light, it becomes less scary.

So many years later and I still remember this book - it starts out with a stunning scene and never lets up until the end. One of Pike's best thrillers.

A highlight of my young adult reading adventures. I'm sure if I read it now, the experience would pale in comparison.

Pike is so re-readable because there's always some matter of folklore or legend intertwined into his storylines. Though the plots may seem especially young adult, with titles like "Monster," there is much more involved in making his books creepy in a most realistic way. This book begins with a high school girl crashing a party with her shotgun and killing two people and trying to kill a third before her friend, Angela, stops her. I loved Angela's evolution through the book - the final page reall...more

I enjoyed reading this. A short novel without big surprises. But not too shabby.

E' stato bello aprire e leggere tutto d'un fiato un libro di Pike, a 10 anni di distanza dall'ultimo, e scoprire che mi terrorizza ed emoziona esattamente come allora!
