This was such a fantastic book.
I was extremely apprehensive about reading this one, as the last Kristan Higgins book I read, well, I hated it. So I came into this one expecting tolerable chick lit, and instead got one of the best books I’ve read in a long time.

What a compelling read! Harper James will make you laugh and sigh with frustration. She suffered a major heartbreak and divorce that has skewed the way she looks at every relationship since. Her firefighter boyfriend was perfect for her because he never demands more than she was willing to offer. First of all, if you are on the fence about whether or not to read this book because it is giving you that "chick-lit" vibe, you can climb down now sista and start reading ...this one is all about the romance.

I was able to snag this book through a galley grab! I just love me some galley grab!
Anywho....it was so sweet! Basically, you've got the story of Harper and Nick. Now, they go way back...married when they were young, divorced quickly after. Once divorced they each moved on with their lives...but not their feelings (though Harper would deny it).

Reading MY ONE AND ONLY BY KRISTAN HIGGINS was an unexpected shocker. Never having read any of her writing, I'd spotted ALL I EVER WANTED on Amazon, and decided to order it. Loved, loved, LOVED this book. I definitely found myself relating (maybe a bit too much) to Harper's fear of abandonment and tendency to run from anything that could hurt her, so I was particularly invested in seeing how she resolved her issues. I rated this one more of a 3 1/2 but closer to 4 than 3. This book had a lot going for it. Harper was a quick witted attorney that was as cynical as the day is long. This book is a tough one for me to review, because I LOVE love loved it until a really crucial plot twist at the end made me HATE hate hate it. So on the one hand, I do recommend it - I'd prefer a book that's 80% pure awesome and 20% horrible to a book that's just 100% blah, wouldn't you? - but with this caveat that I can't properly explain, because it would be a huge spoiler.

Kristan Higgins is one of my go to authors for great contemporary romances. I don't mind stories told in first person and I think that Higgins does a wonderful job of telling great stories. It wasn't any different in this book. The whole lovers reunion type stories are usually a hit with me and while I couldn't get enough of this book, I didn't exactly love it.

I think it's starting to become clear that I have a soft spot for Contemporary Romance novels. Though the reviews for such books on here are usually Young Adult, I absolutely had to take the plunge to read this and review it. Kristan Higgins is an incredible writer and I have been a fan of her writing for a little while now. The way she writes makes it entirely too easy to get lost in her stories, making you not want to come out of the story world until you're completely done with the book.
