A concise, sleek primer, with some nice photos and history from the UK cider perspective. More detailed than Annie Proulx's book in terms of chemistry, but lacking in information about specific types of apples and characteristics of their flavors. For that type of information, read Ben Watson's book instead.

I should note as well that this book is made for the UK audience, so measurements are metric and gear is not precisely the same as in the US.

A nice and engaging introduction to cider-making, with enough information to get you really started---this is nice and thorough. It should be noted, though, that the discussion is always centered around British cider-making, and so some of it---especially the bits about the law---will need to be changed up for U.S. cidermakers.

Great introductory book on making cider. This is a wonderful place to start for someone who wants to learn what it will take to get started. Good luck!
