There was one very, very disturbing thing about this book. The hero pouted. A LOT!

I actually feel bad giving this book 2.5 stars. The writing's pretty decent (not amazing, but decent) and it has short flashes of humor and sweetness that actually made me smile. I'm a little in love with the love interest too, despite his very many, many, MANY pouts. Unfortunately, this book suffered from a severe case of CoFA syndrome.

So here's the story of Jamie Baker. She gets turned into a superhero during a f

Uhm okay... So, where do I begin?

Yes, it all started with a KISS...not just any other ELECTRIFYING KISS!

BUT FIRST, Let's get to know our lead characters Shall we?

Jamie Baker , who after a freak accident involving a tanker truck full of toxic waste, an electric tower and a convertible, developed comic book-like super powers. She became electrically charged and enhanced her natural senses. The same accident also involved her boyfriends death, which made her f

Now, where do I begin? This book was recommended to me by a guy friend. Yes, a guy, straight guy, I can't really begin to fathom how he read this book and enjoyed it as much as I did. Why? It's not your normal Paranormal book (that's sounds, what I mean to say is that from the beginning of this book it oozes of Chick Lit. Of girly girl things. I don'
Okay, yes, I'm a guy and this book is very pink, so let me give you a quick frame of reference: I like romance/relationship stories, and I can get just as excited about a good chick flick as I can about the next James Bond film. I enjoy all forms of "Pride & Prejudice", Sandra Bullock rom/coms, and I really enjoyed reading "Twilight" until the end, when it tried to become an action flick (I didn't even read the last fifty pages). As for YA books, "The Hunger Games" is my favorite (I don't ha ...more
3.5 stars - Okay, this is going to be one of those books that I'm rating not for its quality but for how much fun I had reading it (sorry Mitch). The story is not great, but the dialogue can be pretty funny at times.

Honestly, I thought the concept of how Jamie got her supernatural powers was kind of silly. I was a bit frustrated that I was about halfway through before I even got an idea of what happened. And my reaction was to scoff incredulously about its absurdity. It wasn't until the true con

In a Sentence:Being Jamie Baker is an impressively fun debut novel with a loveable heroine.

I was lucky enough to be given a copy of Being Jamie Baker for review, so a huge thanks goes out to the author, Kelly Oram, and to her publishing group at Bluefields!

Being Jamie Baker was the perfect summer read for me. It was light and fun, but it still had serious undertones. The first line was pretty catchy, so I had no trouble getting into the book, and the plot moved at just the right pac

I really enjoyed, Serial Hottie so I knew I would be getting a bundle package of fun, excitement, and cuteness from this book. The premise seemed interesting, but when I delved into the story, I couldn’t peel my eyes away...

The story is quite simple: Jamie Baker, aka “Ice Queen” and loner, is not your average teen. After a tragic car accident that costs her bf Derek’s life, she’s also forever changed; she turns int

Everything you've likely heard about BEING JAMIE BAKER is true, provided you've heard it's sweet, funny, and wildly entertaining.

It's a tremendously fresh experience. I mean, c'mon! It's practically a chick-lit. A chick-lit with superpowers, how cool is that?

This is Unholy Unicorn, and this is my review. Well, not really. More like an interview/I'm delusional/crap/don't mind me/I'm sorry please don't be scared with me/I just have nothing better to do/nonsense. Not really.

So, I'm a young working mother with NO time to get sucked-in to new books. I though I'd read the first page and then see what happens. Of course for the next 24 hours I was sitting under a lamp in a snuggie, giggling to myself, with my kid in the other room glued to FINDING NEMO and my husband practically starving to death. This book was a refreshing change of pace from most young adult books that can seem rather sensored and vanilla. It's wit and sass makes it exciting without the four letter w ...more

This book annoyed the shit out of me. I just couldn't find myself liking any of the characters. I stuck it out and finished the book hoping that ending would at least make this an okay read. No, it didn't.

The whole rape thing in this book really pissed me off. There was no consequences for the rapist in here other than Jamie slightly roughing him up and telling don't do it again.

Jamie you are a fucking idiot if you think that will make him stop. Yeah, ma
The book trailer worked for this one! Sold me hook line and sinker, which is total first. I hadn’t read a review, I hadn’t seen a promo - I just saw that trailer. So good job Being Jaime Baker designers, film minions and creative personnel! After reading the book, though, how could they not have made a trailer that rocked it? The book was a great mix of candy coated emotions, touching, funny, a bit edgy, and all together entertaining. I really expected a future ABC Family made for TV movie and w ...more
I think this is my first attempt in actually reading in a book the "superhero" concept that I am a big fan of. I focus mostly on visual entertainment for that matter, since there's at least one movie or show each year containing that ordinary man that gains supernatural strength, speed and so on and so forth.

SO for a first attempt, I think that I did good. Being Jaime Baker is a fun and entertaining read that felt like those first movies about heroes where we focus on their ascend to glory and t

I still couldn't kiss him. After all, I couldn't turn my only friend into a pile of ashes.

This book is fun! I really liked it.

When Ryan, king of the school, kisses Jamie as part of a bet, everything changes. Ryan decides he wants to know Jamie. Jamie doggedly avoids any advances (she's quite hostile!), but Ryan is pretty damn charming when he wants to be. He helps her control her powers. It took me half the book to get used to Ryan's exuberance and chattiness. He is so not dark and brooding.

He has that perfect balance of, playfulness, being cocky, funny, serious, but sweet. *SIGH*

Ok, on to the book. I had a bit of a problem with Jamie at first. The whole pity party and self punishment/exclusion and how she wasn't good enough for Ryan, was getting a bit on my nerves, but she totally made up for it when she started kicking ass with her powers at the end.

The plot wasn't anything mind-blowing, it was all pretty straight forward, but what made the book what it was, was th

I was fortunate enough to receive a copy of Being Jamie Baker from Kelly Oram in preparation for reading More Than Jamie Baker in exchange for an honest review shortly after its release, this will in no way effect my opinion on the book!

Did you read that first line up there? That’s the first line of the book, wow. I love that line! What better way to start off a novel than with a kiss? I was at a writer’s conference a few weeks ago, and someone brought up a question in one of my sessions about voice. She didn’t understand what all the writers and agents meant by a novel having a voice. Well, if you are a writer and this is a mystery to you, I suggest reading Being Jamie Baker. This novel is a prime example. The author has a rar ...more
 Tina (Fantastic Book Review)
This book completely pulled me into Kelly's warped world of a teen superhero. From the very first page, this book kept me turning the pages. I couldn't help but to love the characters that Oram created. From the main protagonist (Jamie - with her sass and mishaps) to the love interest (Ryan - who you can't help but fall for), I enjoyed everything about these characters!

What starts off as an innocent kiss (against Jamie's better judgment) turns into something Jamie has no control over. You know w
I was eagerly anticipating BEING JAMIE BAKER when I saw it pop up on Around the World ARC Tours. In fact, saying that the back cover blurb intrigued me would probably be a huge understatement. For some reason, I was craving for a high school read with a cute boy interested in a potentially kick ass heroine.

I loved how Ryan acted with Jamie. I loved their interactions in general. The two were beyond adorable. I actually found myself sighing in jealousy quite a few times. Imagine having the popula

A to

Being Jamie Baker... There really isn't much else I can say.
I met Kelly Oram through National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo). A group of us in the same area decided to get together and do a write-in at a local cafe. Kelly joined us, and while we didn't get much writing done, we did do a lot of talking. And in the process, Kelly was telling us how she was publishing her first ever novel.

Now, as we were doing National NOVEL Writing
I started reading this book in summer of you can see...that was a long time started fun...and then just went downhill..if you read my'll notice that I'm pretty nice with ratings..but this book screamed 2 for me.

“Most superhero stories start with a meteor shower or a nasty insect bite, but mine actually starts with a kiss. Whether it was a kiss of life or a kiss of death I still haven’t decided, but it was, surprisingly, a really good kiss. Not that I’d ever tell him that.”

This book is amazingly good!!! I enjoyed every minute of reading this, and maybe that explains how I finished it in short span of time. But no kidding though I was really fascinated on how the story flowed.

What an amazing book! This is probably the funniest YA I've read since Louise Rennison's series. I started laughing on page six and after that, it just got better. I wore my finger out highlighting passages that I loved. I should have saved the energy and just highlighted the whole book!

Jamie Baker is a teenage girl who gets into a car accident and ends up with a bunch of super powers she doesn't want. And since her boyfriend died in the accident, everyone blames her for his death. When the stor
Right from the start this book surprised me. Jamie Baker, our heroine, has superpower that forced her to become an ice queen, but she doesn't care being called that way, she even doesn't take it personally when one of the hottest girls at school calls her a slut. I often read in YA books, being an outcast will make her pity to herself and care of what people say about her. But not Jamie Baker, although she has difficult life, she always believes of what she capable of and doesn't give a damn of ...more

I liked it very much. The topic of super-powerful girl is very touched, but still this book captures the reader's attention, not only by the powers of the protagonist, Jamie, but for his ice queen personality, which disappears completely after a brief encounter Ryan. I liked how Jamie gradually changes its character after that kiss and how in the end, it will solve the strange mystery of the crash that got her powers.

Being Jamie Baker had me at its first line. This is a light paranormal romance that involves a hot heroine, a charming hero and major - I mean MAJOR - sparks. teehee. ;)

Ibaže to si ešte počkám. 2014?! To ako vážne? Autorka alebo vydavateľstvo teda nemajú zmysel pre humor a robí im dobre takto týrať fanúšikov.
Vrelá vďaka. Dovtedy päťkrát zabudnem, o čom to bolo.
Ale k veci.

Príbeh Jamie Bakrovej sa nezačína vetou: "Som obyčajná a veľmi veľmi nudná outsiderka,
You’ve seen the brilliant book trailer for Being Jamie Baker, right? It’s absolutely fantastic, isn’t it? But even though it’s made of awesomeness, it doesn’t do the book justice. Maybe it’s just me, but the trailer let me believe that this would be a fun, lighthearted read. You know, a story that somewhat entertains you, but you don’t get emotionally (or any other way) invested in it or in the characters because, well, it just isn’t THAT good.

Boy was I wrong.
