This review is for A Gathering of Gargoyles and The Pearl of the Soul of the World

Some might think that the Darkangel Trilogy is in the paranormal genre because of the vampires, but it isn’t. It is mostly fantasy and even a little sci-fi. Pierce creates worlds, new species, and terminology.

The cover quote describes the books as Heart-warming and Heart-breaking and it truly is. Aeriel is a good heroine who follows the path of self discovery. She learns that...more

After a second volume that was too easy and less than inspiring, I started the final part of the Darkangel trilogy with trepidation. Would it validate the things that seemed pointless or tacky in the second book?

At first it seemed the answer was yes, the start of the book is as chilling and dreamy as the first volume. The second half, however, was a mixed bag. The identifiable problems of communication and rivalry over a man seemed to earthly for the fairy tale aspect of the series. Th...more

First of all, the way this book began was kind of confusing, though it was different and original way to start the story. Most stories follow a linear path, but the beginning of this book differs from that convention, and to have been dumped into this third volume with no idea of what was going on made us all the more sympathetic to Aeriel because, well, she was as lost as we were.

I wish we could have had more interaction between her and the people she crossed paths with, including her brot...more

reread. had just bought this, the last installment in the darkangel trilogy. i used to own a single edition of the entire trilogy but lent it out during my sophomore year of high school and never got it back. since i had the whole set again for the first time in a decade, i figured i'd read it again. the end of this series is a little bit of a let down, which makes this book less fun to read than either the darkangel or a gathering of gargoyles. still, it's a pretty good YA series.

I waited for YEARS for this trilogy to be complete. I pestered the librarian weekly, "Is it out yet?" When it finally arrived, we were both excited.

Great until the last 20 pgs which were a big WTF.

i just finished my third reread of this series. while it is a book that i remember vividly and didn't miss much of, i still enjoy reading it over and over. This book sums up the story of ariel and her dark angel and the white witch and everyone else on the little moon circling Oceanus. It's twisty and there are surprises around ever corner, each of them just another piece to the puzzle.

I really was loving this one up until the very end, which was somewhat disappointing but made sense, and hence was acceptable. But still, it wasn't the way I wanted it to turn out, it was a little bit sad, but not enormously. This one was quite a page-turner for me, more so than the second in the trilogy especially.

I thought that this book was a very intersting conclusion to a fascinating trilogy. The amount the character has to give up to save the people she cares about is tremendous yet she still does and frees all people from their bonds no matter what kind of bond it was. Very, very cool.

This was my first read through of the last book in the Darkangel trilogy. I had read the first two over a decade ago and just now read the ending. It made me feel lonely. A lot of the history is explained, and mysteries are unraveled. It wasn't the typical "happy" ending.

*is speechless* A villain turned sympathetic, a goddess turned human, a girl becomes a woman in mind, demons are confronted and a lot of disillusionment occurs. Just watching to see how everything is tied in..brilliant!

I loved the first two books in this trilogy, but hated the ending of this final book. I was actually quite disappointed and annoyed with the outcome.

A truly wonderful book. I cried when I read the ending. It was sad that the main female character had to leave her love.

I loved this series. I think it really influenced my enjoyment of the dark fantasy genre in later years.
