There are times when I just HAVE to read something to perk me up, something light and silly and mindless. Louise Rennison's books always do the trick. It doesn't hurt either that this first book in Confessions of Georgia Nicolson series is a winner of Printz Honor, proving that even the silliest story about make-up, boys, and snogging can be written brilliantly. Angus, Thongs and Full-Frontal Snogging never takes itself seriously or tries to teach some kind of moral lesson. Instead, its only aim...more

Hillariosity! This is another book, from the brits, that people either love or hate. I happen to love this series, and laughed so hard I actually cried. I think people who hate this book are turned off by the main character Georgia. She is vain, self centered, hormonal, ridiculous and, I think, absolutely fabulous. This is the first of a series and we are introduced to her mad little sister libby, her feral cat Angus, her Mum and Dad, and group of silly girlfriends. It's written as a diary...more

After finally being exposed to Georgia Nicolson and her quirky hijinks, I have to wonder: is Louise Rennison the Meg Cabot of England? Is it a rite of passage for teenage British girls to read the adventures of Georgia and her mates? If not, it should be. This book illustrated everything it means to be a teenage girl trying to find her way and be her own person -- only with plenty more hilarity. (And how could you go wrong with a title like Angus, Thongs and Full-Frontal Snogging?)

HOOT...

This was probably the best use of 2.5 hours that I've spent since reading Bill Bryson's, "A Walk in the Woods".

Brit comedian/author Louise Rennison takes on the teen female mindset with hilariosity and realism. Rennison's nailed the feelings, the drama-queen world-view and the all-or-nothing attitude down pat. Our heroine, Georgia Nicolson, may be British, and a good 32 years my junior, but I too was Georgia...once upon a time.

I got to the point where I couldn't read this book during silent reading time in my class, it made me laugh so hard. I'm not an easy touch for this type of humor - slapstick and outrageous. ATFFS, however, made me laugh so hard, I snorted. The epistolary nature of the narrative adds so much to the plot. A snippet about a girl who accidentally-on-purpose shaves off her eyebrows is cringingly amusing, but when it's told in five or six installments, each a few minutes apart, and that snippet weaves...more

Rennison, Louise. Angus, Thongs and Full-Frontal Snogging: Confessions of Georgia Nicholson. Harpertempest, 247 pages. Novel aimed at the tween market.

Description: The 14-year-old protagonist, Georgia Nicholson, gives a minute by minute account of her time spent with friends, obsessions with boys and worries that she may have to move to New Zealand.

Review: This book hones in on the things that 14-year-old girls really think about and presents them in an authentic and of...more

This is a book in diary format about Georgia Nicolson's life. Georgia is an average teenage girl. She spends most of her time trying to find a boyfriend because she thinks she is the only one without one at the age of 14. Georgia goes through the same problems as any other teenager such as puberty and self conciousness. I enjoyed reading this book because it connects to me as well as many other teens. In the book, her friend, Lindsay was going out with this guy named Robbie, who is also known as...more

I read almost the entire Confessions of Georgia Nicolson series years and years and years ago (yes, I'm that old). Written in diary form, it's like a Bridget Jones's Diary for teens. Back then, it fed my constant appetite for all things British. And it was hysterical, absurd, and utterly how a 14-year-old would document her life. Upon this re-reading, I was most startled to realize Georgia probably influenced my 13-year-old self's journaling style more than I ever suspected. Ha! Or should I say,...more

Bahahahahahahahahaha!

Who HASN'T stolen dad's razor to experiment with one's eyebrow hair?

I was feeling a little down in a post Silly Seasons sort of way, and a friend suggested I get involved with the wonderful world of Georgia Nicolson. And I was delighted.

Don't expect to learn anything of any significance from these books.
In fact, they're likely to leave you slightly stupider, if anything.
But if ever you're at a point in your reading career in which you think to yourself, 'Goddamn. I just wan...more

Let me just start this review by saying I love this book. LOVE IT! This is one of the few books that I've really, truly laughed out loud while reading - there were times I was seriously doubled over. It is hilarious. I'm going to start recommending this book to everyone I know.

But, just so you know, this book is strictly a fun read, nothing more (still well worth reading, believe me).

I really enjoyed this book! I don't have much to stay about it as it's not very deep or anything but it was really fun to read. Georgia's voice is very distinctive and her diary entries are very witty. I loved her over dramatic reactions to her life. I read this in one sitting and really liked it. It was a very light and amusing read and I'm looking forward to reading the second in the series.

This book is really cute! What initially attracted me was the cover art—the mix of that bad kitty and that Toulouse-Lautrec Jane Avril foot:

It’s a wacky combination, but it complements the story inside perfectly. Georgia’s a bit crazy, yet she’s a lot of fun. Some of her observations are priceless:

“[Dad’s] growing a mustache—how ridiculous. It looks like some small animal is just having a bit of a sleep on his top lip.”

What a fun and hilarious book! Such a light read, and quite the 'pick me up.' Told in a diary-like format, Georgia is completely vain, self-centered, dramatic, ridiculous and hilarious girl who gives a sassy account of her interactions with friends, obsessions with boys and worries of life. There were so many silly things I could relate to in the story and I found it 100% entertaining. There were quite a few British terms that I ended up having to look up in the glos...more

This book is laugh out loud funny! The proper English slang took some getting used to, but luckily the author has included a glossary in the back.

Georgia is full of hilariosity and she along with her Ace Gang, mad sister, and fat vati will have you laughing like a loon on loon tablets. Gee is neither kind nor cruel, smart nor intelligent, but witty she is and she is forever getting herself into a jam due to her neurotic nature and obsession with boys, make up and hair.

I think my main problem reading this book is that I have happened to watch the movie before I've laid my hand on the ebook. I loved the plot in the movie and I assumed this book would be the same, but it was better and worse-
Why was it worse? [ugly truth]

Terrific light reading. The whole series is currently at six books and there will probably be several more. The books are written in diary format, and they happen to be the diaries of the craziest British girl who ever walked this earth, plus she comes equipped with equally crazy friends and a marvelously dysfunctional family.
An example of one of Georgia's entries:
"Jas phoned and wanted to go shopping - there's some new makeup that looks so natural you can't tell you have got a...more

Reading this was the result of another moment of desperately seeking what I call "fluff-lit". I was amused by the title, so I picked it up on a whim and by the end of the night found myself literally rolling on the floor laughing. I highly recommend this one (and its sequel) even for adults if you're in the mood for silliness.

I loved this book. It was so cute and realistic. One day she is so down, she can't go further and the next as high as the skies! Exactly like a real 14 year old.

Of course the English slang was infinitely entertaining. I have already bought 4 more books in the series and can't wait to cath up with Georgia.

This is the funniest book I've ever read. It's the journal of Georgia Nicholson, who is often on the rack of lurve. The book is British, and has lots of odd British humor, but plenty of humor that will make even the most curmudgeonly person laugh their butt off. I can't think of a single person who would not find at least part of this book hilarious. I've never laughed so hard at a book in my life. At one point I laughed so hard someone asked me why I was crying. I'm pretty sure I actually rolle...more

Ok, so this is another young adult novel but don't be hatin'. This one is so flippin' hilarious. I discovered it during college (recommended by a BYU professor) and often found myself in the BYU library laughing out loud. Okay, I got some looks but I didn't care. Georgia is too funny for words. This is writen in diary form nad is British so if you hate either of those two options. You won't like this. If you do like this, however, there are like seven more after it. The writing was strong, but I REALLY did not like Georgia's "voice." I felt like she was just four years away from Girls Gone Wild. I found it hard to muster a care for her.

If you're in the mood for something snarky and irreverent, this is the book for you. I'm not a laugh-out-loud type of girl (I just do the laughing in my head, thank you) but this had me laughing uproariously for all to hear. Georgia has such a well-defined voice full of humor, wit, snark, fluff, and heart.

Think Bridget Jones for the teen set.

Think Diary of a Wimpy Kid for tweens, without the illustrations, and one can pretty much have an accurate idea of what this book is about. Although critically acclaimed and with awards to its name (http://www.harpercollins.com/books/Angus...) I would personally re-title this book "Diary of a Petty, Shallow Tween."

Now, don't misunderstand me. I laughed out loud at portions of the story, and most definitely felt as if I was reading the actual diary of quite a few of the tweens...more

Young Adult Romance

This is a hilarious book, but a bit raunchy. It's about a teenage British girl, Georgia, or Georgie, who is wanting a boyfriend, hating and loving her family at the same time, and trying not to get into too much trouble at school. All the adults in her lives are ridiculous including her lesbian gym teacher. The book is written like a diary. The British expressions made me crack up, and I definitely appreciate the glossary of terms in the back. Words like "knicke...more

There will be plenty of parents offended by Rennison’s first Georgia Nicolson book (and no doubt subsequent books) featuring the irrepressible 14-year-old and her amusing and highly “inappropriate” confessions. 14-year-old girls worried about their looks, their sexuality, their home-life, boys, and friends?! Okay, perhaps it is the way in which the subjectively drawn text expresses herself. Making ideal use the of diary trope, Rennison has created a singular character with both popular and unpop...more

Let me just start by saying that any book with a diary format and plenty of humor is going to immediately draw my interest. Then imagine if that book was a 2001 Printz Honor book while also making the Banned Book list, and you have my exact reasons for picking it up.

In the words of Georgia Nicolson.."Fabbity fab fab!!" Honestly though, this book is fantastic. Period. Read it when you're depressed, and you shall not be. Read it in public, and people will think you have mania issues because you WILL (this is a sworn guarantee) laugh aloud. Several times. Possibly snorting. Embarrassment may follow, but you will be so wrapped up in the world of Georgia that you simply will not care.

Actually really funny. One of the best diaries of teenage girls that I've ever found, and surprisingly, the movie is even better! Georgia's world is so insane and so full of madness that you will pretty much giggle the whole way through and I've always found that when I come out of reading a whole lot of the series back-to-back I end up speaking exactly like her and noticing insanity in my own life too! She's a brilliantly formed character, but I think that's due to the fact that she IS the auth...more

Why I read this Book:

Seriously, with a title like that how could you not? It was vaguely on my radar, but then an agent I follow put out her wish list and she wanted books like that, and well then it was a MUST read NOW!!! sort of thing.
