I really enjoyed this book. There is a reasonably good balance between music theory(or technical aspects), the composers, and their music. I really liked following a piece of music in the book while hearing it in the (not included) 5-CD set.
Excellent broad coverage. If you have the means, I recommend reading the print copy and buying a license to use the electronic version for its active listening guides, YouTube playlists, and interactive quizzes.

I enjoyed studying this book while watching the Open Yale Course ( Listening to Music ) by The professor who wrote this book .
Got this book for my Music Appreciation class. If you know music, you really don't need this book. However, I learned a few things.
I know this is a text book, but I really liked reading and learning from it.
