Brian Michael Bendis seemingly ended the Avengers as a super team back in 2004 with his Avengers: Disassembled storyline which promptly led to about 73 different titles starting up in place of the old one. Somewhere after Young Avengers, New Avengers, The Mighty Avengers and Dark Avengers I started losing count and worried that it was a matter of days before we got Geriatric Avengers and The Avengers: Iceland. So it’s kind of fitting that Bendis is the one bringing back a version somewhat cl More...

One of my fellow geeks lent this to me because she thought I might like it. Upon reading it, I now know why. Lately I've been pretty into time-travel related stories, and HOLY COW this book has mind-bending time travel! As always, amazingly dynamic art, and it has certainly made me even more excited for the movies coming out this summer!

On a last note, there is one point that Captain America says "A man who fancies himself the lord of time needs a kingdom..." and as a Doctor Who fan, I could More...

After the Siege crossover, when Norman Osborn was soundly defeated and exposed as an insane maniac, the Marvel Universe is ushered into a new period of storytelling that focuses more on grand, heroic adventures and less on gritty realism and hazy moral distinctions -- an era in comic books dubbed "The Heroic Age." Bendis' Avengers is one of the first forays into this new "age" o More...

-------

With the story arc called The New Avengers, Brian Michael Bendis and John Romita Jr. have created a powerful and compelling book, which returns our heroes to the glory they deserve, after Civil War, Invasion, Dark Reign, Siege and the sort…

The way to achieve the above mentioned, is making our heroes fight epic and desperate battles against invincible foes, while time-travelling to the darkest hours More...

Not sure I'm liking the so-called Heroic Age stuff - seems a bit too earnest and deliberate for my taste. Unlike the Dark Reign which had a natural protagonist and tons of ripple effects, the Heroic Age has an... absence of something cohesive. Must be why it feels like it's finding its feet.

All that said, this book is still funny as Bendis, and well-written. However it also feels a bit *too* action - action scenes tripping over each other before they've even played out. Not enough time to catch More...

I'm a sucker for all things Avengers, this current reboot included. Maria Hill is made Team Leader (small surprise but a welcome one, I've always liked her character). Iron Man, the new Captain America, Thor, Spider-Woman, Spider-Man, Wolverine and Hawkeye. And one to be added in story...Noh Varr. Read some recent summer crossovers (Siege) if you don't know who he is.

The story read like a summer crossover packed into 6 issues but Bendis made it flow. Kang, Ultron, future Hulk, fut More...

Bendis and Romita kick off a new Avengers era by reuniting the big three. Hand-picked by Steve Rogers, the newest line-up consists of Bucky-Cap, Thor, Iron Man, Spider-Woman, Spider-Man, and Wolverine. Approached by Kang to end the threat of their future children (fans may recognize the kids from the animated Next Avengers film), the team faces a time-travel threat of both Kang and Ultron. Heady and talkative, this first volume serves little than to showcase Bendis's future plot threads a la DC' More...

As a DC fan, this is the first full Marvel book I have read. I have to say, I am not that impressed. There was a lot of nice concepts, time travel is always an intriguing plot in any media. The wrting is sub-par, the dialogue is plain annoying at some parts. Bendis seems to want to make Spider-Man wisecrack at every opportunity...and it just gets irratating. I know a lot of people love John Romita Jr's artwork...it's just not for me. It's very sketchy, looks a little rushed in places. It just ab More...

I was kind of put off by the art on the cover and did not expect to like it that much, given my dislike of the JLA and the likes - too much going on and no real character development. While there wasn't a whole lot of character development here either, the story was intriguing and the writing was awesome (a lot of laugh out loud moments, very clever dialog). I'll probably be picking up vol. 2, as long as the library has it.

The storyline wasn't incredible, but I think this could be the start of something cool. Or not. Time will tell, I suppose.
Normally I'm not a fan of time-travel, but I thought this was one of the few times it didn't suck. Maybe it's because I have a soft spot for the Avenger's kids (I must have had to watch that movie The Next Avengers with my boys about 50 times).
Can't say I loved the art, though.

I enjoyed this so very much.

Now, I'll say that (to use fanfic terms) there was a bit of hand-waving. And the plot is not for the faint of heart (he BROKE the timeline! the Avengers must fix it!). I laughed like a mad woman and squealed with a twihard at the Breaking Dawn premiere. Not that it didn't have serious moments as well (Tony has an almost heartbreaking moment which was amazing).

A tremendous reboot of Marvel's signature super hero team, after a number of years when soul-destroying cross-over series blighted the land. This covers the first six issues of the 2010 reboot, and its full of wit, humour, mystery, and superb action. My only complaint is that I'm not the greatest fan of John Romita's style of art...but beggars can't be choosers.

I'm glad to enter the Heroic Age, and this a classic sort of story, especially with Kang the Conquerer. Romita's art is excellent (though several of the characters- Tony Stark and Thor in particular- look a bit on the young side). My only complaint is that it's BuckyCap instead of Steve Rogers (though Steve does appear for awhile in his TopCop role).

More enjoyable than the last 5 years of Bendis Avengers stories. At least he seems to be having fun here, instead of moving through a slog of angry characters and never ending events. Plus, the first four issues are a lot of fun to look at (though the inking in the last two issues is a harsh contrast). Look forward to the next volume.

Typical Bendis: over-written, uneven character development and throwing too many characters in the soup.
But it's JR JR, even if Janson occasionally gets sloppy with the inking...

Was kind of confusing at first because there's a lot of backstory I was missing just picking it up. But, once you get a feel for it then you just go right a long.

Not great, not bad. Can I remember anything about it after a couple of days? No. A diversion and I would have been disappointed to have paid full price for this one. Good library fodder.

I don't like giving out one star reviews, so I didn't, but this came pretty close.

Decent story with amazing art. The Thor vs Galactus page is jaw dropping. I found this to be far better than previous Bendis Avengers books. There are many seeds planted for future stories. I am very interested in the upcoming Ultron War.
