It's bee a while since I really let loose and got snarky. Sorry for the TL;DR, but I had a lot to say about this short little book. I REGRET NOTHING.

I love vampire lit, I love crack--as in books and stories that make no fucking scene and are great to laugh at--and based on the jacket copy alone, Pulse was going to fulfill my need for cracked-out vampire lit. I already read plenty of crack (be glad you can't see what's in my "To Read While Bored" bookmarks folder because you'd be appalled) and it...more

Kalina is grieving over the loss of her ex-boyfriend, Aaron. She broke up with him because he was an alcoholic and would not get help. He crashed his car and now he's gone. Little did she know that was as far from the truth as possible. The son of a vineyard owner, Aaron was actually a vampire. But Kalina doesn't learn about that until his step-brothers, Stuart and Jaegar, enter the picture.

Stuart is the new student at her school. It turns out that the two...more

Pulse is a feast for the senses. The wine country is the setting, but you might as well have die and gone to vampire heaven when you meet the likes of Stuart and Jaegar. There are sweet moments and moments of intense action. Snappy dialogue, clear descriptions, complex characters are some of the highlights. I wanted more, and the ending was unpredictable. Thank God there's a book two because I do want to know more about Kalina.

I'm giving this a five because I love this series, I love the characters, and I love writing about them. Although this is about vampires and is for young adults and entertainment, there are issues brought up in this series to help teens/young adults discuss more serious topics. So, for those of you not used to my books, I started writing my YA books for schools and teachers, especially as a way to open the door of discussion on social issues with teens. I'm thrilled and humbled to find my young...more

First of all, I love how Books 2 and 3 were released shortly after Book 1. Very considerate for us readers! This is a vampire book series, and I love every fun page of it. From the beginning, I was intrigued. The characters are distinct, you get a clear idea of who they are, and how they think. Gow is one of those storytellers like Ally Condie, who use simplistic sentences to convey the mood of the story. For those of you who only read young adult novels, this style is similar to Hemingway and S...more

So excited. Pulse released today! I couldn't wait for the book to ship so I downloaded Pulse on Kindle this morning.

I've never been to Rutherford, California before, but it is a real town in Napa Valley. Now I want to visit. The world of Pulse takes place in Rutherford where Kalina is a high school senior. She's smart (we learn she's trying for an early admission to Yale), she's serious (although she's a cheerleader, but a competitive sports kind, she practices her moves over and over again a h...more

I thoroughly enjoyed PULSE. Vampire-loving-readers will devour PULSE for this is ALL vampire. The Greystone brothers Jaegar and Stuart are packed with personality. Kalina is not what she seems, but she'll remind you of Buffy and Willow from Buffy the Vampire Slayer for she's smarter than average and athletic. She also reminds me of Rose from Vampire Academy because she's impulsive. Mainly because she's hormonal and emotionally distressed when we meet her - she's grieving over her ex-boyfriend's...more

Pulse is about Kalina, a girl whose boyfriend, Aaron, died three months earlier. It turns out he was a vampire, as are his brothers, Jaegar and Stuart, who promise to protect her. She needs protection because she has special blood that vampires won’t be able, or want, to resist for one of several reasons, which I won’t give away. Together, they want to not only keep Kalina safe, but also unravel the mystery surrounding Aaron’s death. Along the way, Kalina realizes she’s drawn to both brothers, t...more

Pulse has one major thing going on for it. This book has a pulse, that remains strong and does not slow down. I liked the fact that this is a fast paced book, which does not bore you. That said, let's start with the real stuff...

Plot:
Kalina is a 17 year old girl, who is happy in her world, which is as far from the supernatural stuff as any place can be, but tragedy strikes, and her budding relationship with her boyfriend Aaron comes to an abrupt end, when he dies in a car crash, while driving un...more

Looking at the cover of the book, I really wanted it to be good. I wanted to be able to slip into the pages of the book and be a part of it. Unfortunately that did not happen.

The story line had a chance early on of going deep and staying that way, but it got by passed very quickly. The book was very fast paced, a little too fast paced, and I felt like I was missing out on things that should have or could have happened. This is a quick read and some YA’s might really enjoy it, but I longed for m...more

Kalina is seventeen years-old and has already lost her parents. She’s also lost her boyfriend, Aaron. When she’s at the local library, she thinks she sees Aaron, but it turns out that Aaron had a half-brother, Stuart. He disappears without a trace. That same night, she meets Jaegar Greystone…again. Apparently, he’s also Aaron’s step-brother and tells Kalina that Aaron is a vampire.

At the next day at school, there is a new student that just happens to be Stuart, and the girls flock all around him...more

I know that I seem to say the same thing everytime that I review a Kailin book but man can she write, no matter whatever she writes I can never seem to put the book down whenever I pick one up.

So this time we have a book about vampires (I love the title), and Kalina a 17 year old girl who's ex-boyfriend Aaron was recently killed, his two brothers Stuart and Jaegar come to town and it's not to long before Kalina ends up in a relationship with Stuart, while also being attracted to Jaegar who is th...more

This is one of the very few books that have been submitted to the 'half read because it got so overwhelmingly annoying' pile, resulting in it being confined to the dark realms of underneath my bed.

Now this book starts off with so much promise, scary-ass vampires who aren't afraid to run around assaulting people, couple of fights fairly early one (which is a nice change to the usual YA vamp books when we are waiting 'til the final chapters and a seemingly good cast of characters ... initially. Th...more

This is the story of Kalina, a spunky teenage cheerleader who is heartbroken after the death of her boyfriend, Aaron. Aaron has a secret. He's a vampire and so are his brothers who come to town to protect Kalina who is a "Life Blood" carrier and is sought after by all vampires. Stuart is very reserved, friendly and only survives on vampire wine. He does not hunt humans. He is also very attractive and like Aaron, falls for Kalina. Jaeger is also good looki...more

This was a good book! Kalina is mourning her ex-boyfriend's death when she meets his two half brothers. Aaron was a fun loving guy who had a bad habbit of drinking too much, at least that is what Kalina thought and why she broke up with him. Now she finds out he was a vampire and so are his brothers!

I liked Kalina. She wasn't the typical 17 year old, but was much more grounded. She was more mature but at the same time, she still enjoyed life. Stuart was such a noble guy but still a vampire. Jaeg...more

I recently started picking up vampire novels again. After reading the summary for Pulse I just had to read it. Kailin Gow wrote a fantastic story full of intrigue.

Kalina Calloway's boyfriend died. How? They don't know. Then his two brothers arrive in town. Soon after, Kalina begins to have feelings for both brothers. What they aren't telling her will shock her, but who she loves may be more important.

I liked Kalina. However, I felt like she abandoned...more

Pulse is the kind of young adult romance that sweeps you away to another world where vampires are so alluring, so beautiful, you can't help falling for them at the first meeting. Meet Kalina, who is The Carrier, a girl who seems like a typical high school senior, who has that same allure, but to vampires. Though she has no clue she's The Carrier, she gets swept into the world of vampires when Aaron Greystone, who appears like any high school hottie, dates her and dies a mysterious death. Before...more

This story covers the life of Kalina, a 17 year old girl with a life full of secrets. When Kalina hears that her boyfriend Aaron is supposedly killed in a drunk driving accident; though his body was never found, the story just doesn't seem to fit and the details seem far too suspicious for Kalina. Kalina soon meets Aaron's 2 half-brothers; Stuart and Jaegar, and they drop the biggest bomb possible...Aaron was a vampire and so are they. Kalina soon finds out that Aaron wasn't drunk during the acc...more

Engrossing and romantic. I was drawn in by the first scene with Jaegar noticing the effect Kalina has on him. She's caught in a downpour, and he takes the risk to meet her, despite his vampire urges. From then on, I was hooked. Aptly named, Pulse will get your heart racing. I've read many romance novels, especially young adult romances, and this one manages to be amazingly sweet, steamy, and heartaching at the same time. It's great to see the girl as the initiator, too. The heroine is strong-wil...more

I really enjoy reading the Pulse Series. It’s about vampires yes and I know what you think…‘Again” but no this series is different. I don’t want to spoil the plot but I have to say that the characters are very lovable. The dialogue are witty and the characterization make a lot of sense. I laughed, hurt and got mad with those characters. Kalina our ‘lead’ is a strong girl plus she is surrounded by great males characters (major hotness alert!!)! I don’t want to make you bias in any ways but I have...more

I devoured this book. From the moment I received the review copy in the mail, I couldn't put it down until I was finished. Mystery and romance clouded the beginning. The vampire hunks are more than sexy, they're complex. No wonder Kalina can't choose between them. I can see Kalina as a real teenager on the brink of adulthood. Her grief for Aaron's death felt real. Then her elation in finding Stuart, someone close to Aaron, who reminded her of Aaron, felt real. Her discovery of who she is felt re...more

"The worst pickup line of all time. Hi, I'm Stuart. Go out with me see-I can fly? What's next, you'll start sparkling in front of her?"
LOL

I really enjoyed this Vampire/Human book.
Kalina is one heck of a feisty 17 year old. Having just lost her boyfriend then to have both his half brothers pop up...wow talk about drama!
Not to mention they're vampires...or that she's special.

I have to say my fave is Jaegar!!! He's blunt and straight-forth!!!!
Stuart is cool, but a bit of a stand offish type.

I love this book. From the beginning, you are drawn in by the imagery and the emotions, the sense of longing in the characters as they meet. Right away, there is mystery and romance. The book begins in the rain as a vampire watches Kalina run from her car to the library. There is something very romantic yet primal about Kalina's first meeting with Jaegar, her dead ex-boyfriend's half-brother. Shortly after, Kalina meets Stuart, the other brother. Both brothers are vampires, as was Kalina's ex-bo...more

Not only is this one of the most addicting new vampire series I've read (I've read Pulse and Book 2 Life's Blood), it is unbelievably the best book value. I read the Kindle version and quickly devoured Life's Blood in a few hours. I cannot put this book series down, yet the books were filled with action, romance, snappy dialogue, realistic dialogue, tender loving moments, everything you'd expect from a television show, you can read this book quickly. Not that it is short, it is the book size of...more

This book was okay, but it wasn't my favorite.

I read the preview for this book on my computer and thought it sounded AMAZING! But I was wrong. The book wasnt terrible but there wasnt anything to special about it. I bought the book for $2.99 on my kindle. The beginning was kind of fast paced. (thats the way i like my books.) As i kept reading it got kind of slow then picked up then got slow. then you were at the end. It seemed like the writer ran out of time and just stop the book right in the m...more

“And what if Aaron drank from the unwilling? If he killed men and women – what then?”
“I don't know that he did.” Kalina turned to face him. They drove on. “It sounds like he stuck to Vampire Wine. Which is more than I can say for you.”
“Listen,” said Jaegar. “You eat your steak. I’ll eat my humans. You don't need to get self-righteous with me. As far as I'm concerned – you're just food.”
“I'm food that can talk. And in any case – you don't seem to make up your mind whether you want to sleep with me or have me for dinner.”
“Both, really.”

“Let's not talk,” she said again, wrapping her arms around him and kissing him.
His lips collided with hers; his mouth opened into hers. He pushed her down upon the sofa and began unbuttoning her blouse; she opened the buttons of his shirt and felt her lips press against the smooth expanses of his chest.
They did not stop; they could not stop. Their bodies were tangled into each other – their limbs at angles across the surface of the couch. They had both by now stripped to their underwear, and Stuart's arms were tight upon her back.
“We have to stop,” he whispered, and she gave a little moan in reply.”
