If you've ever been there, you've never forgotten. The feeling is as haunting and familiar as the smellof a junior high school locker room.

It's the feeling of being undersized … or oversized … or klutzy … or less than beautiful. Of being a nerd … or a geek … or just, somehow, different.

It's knowing you are vulnerable-and someone is ready and willing to take full advantage o

This book had been sitting on my shelf for years until I picked it up yesterday. The bolded words on the cover -- "this is not fiction", "this is real" -- spoken like a zealous car salesman or a monster truck rally announcer, waylaid my interest in reading the personal story of a well-known author of Christian fiction. I thought I'd read a couple of pages to see if it was worth keeping on my bookshelf.
Well, a few pages turned into the entire book in just half a day. I was surprisingly pulled i

This should be a must read for every adult - every parent, school teacher, school administrator, sunday school teacher, etc... Every child from 6th grade or higher should read this as well.
Bullying leaves nothing but a wounded spirit. We've all suffered at the hands of a bully and at times have been the bully ourselves.
This is Frank Peretti's life story. He's one of my favorite authors and I had no idea that he was born with a medical condition which in turn as the years went by made him the p

I thought that I had purchased the unabridged version of Wounded Spirit. What I’m actually reviewing is the audio of a speech given by Peretti based on the book. In the speech, Peretti talks about his own wounded spirit and the societal consequences of bulling.

If you have children, I would, certainly, recommend sharing this audio with them. Peretti offers clarity, compassion and a viable solution. He asks us all to treat others as we would like to be treated. It is a simple idea, but can never

Powerful retelling of Peretti's difficult childhood. He was bullied unmercifully because of his small size and physical handicaps. I wish every school teacher and coach in America was required to read this book.

This book was required reading for all teachers at a Christian school where I taught for four years. It made me rethink and question everything I thought I knew about relating to my students.... I think it's a must-read for all parents and teachers.

Excellent book to learn how verbal abuse can damage a person. Learn how you can overcome this abuse by Frank Peretti's story. God heals! Easy book to read- I read this on a 2hour airplane flight.

I feel like this book tore a hole in me.. lol.
You read it and keep saying, "I've been there. I've done that. I've felt that way.."
It's a real soul opener... It will make you feel uncomfortable. It will make you cry.
But it was such a good read. This book changed the way I thought about things and
left me feeling like I wasn't alone in some of my old situations.....

Be prepared to loose yourself and regain some pieces...

Are you curious as to Author Frank Peretti's background? His real-life story is told through these pages. I nearly wept when I read paragraph after paragraph of the abuse haunting his adult eyes. He shares his struggles, healing process, and freedom found in Christianity.

Here's the official synopsis:

Shelves: couldn-t-finish
I really wanted to only give this book maybe 1.5 stars because I couldn't finish it and stopped on page 116. It started out really well, talking about how he, the author, was teased because of a medical issue he had. Everyone has been teased at one point or another in their lives and how we, as a people, should see that and in turn help to stop bullying in the lives of our kids. I was under the impression that he was talking about "everyone". Except this is a case of, taking the title of a Singl ...more

In recent months, I've been reflecting a bit on how a rough middle school experience has influenced and negatively affected the ways I view others, myself, and God, even today. it's taken a while for me to see the connection between now and then, seeing as I've always just dismissed the past as something hard I went through that made me stronger. however, something that I have recently been feeling and that this book strongly affirms is the fact that the ways we've been hurt or teased in the pas ...more

Frank Peretti tackles bullying and abuse head on in this book. Much of the book is a personal account of the abuse he himself suffered as a child due to a physical disfigurement. He manages to weave lots of gripping narrative in with an expose of the gravity of this problem. He uses references to Columbine and other examples as the culminating outcome should this type of abuse continue to go unchecked. He also offers hope and practical solutions to the problem. Frank Peretti is one of my all tim ...more

Mr. Peretti does it again! This time in non-fiction. He acknowledges the problem and lifts the veil from our eyes and with a no-holds bar approach, clearly, effectively and correctly provides the solution to where society went wrong - It needs to turn back to God and away from the survival of the fittest and all of its evolution lies. Without God, we have no moral compass, no value of life, and no hope for the future generations.

With the lies we've been told regarding where we came from (primal

The Wounded Spirit was published in 2000. I reread it in one evening recently and found it more relevant than ever for today’s world. This is an excellent small book on the bullying, teasing, and abuse that often harms children, even breaking their spirit. Frank Peretti, (author of many novels of spiritual warfare) in this non-fiction book gives details of his own experience of being bullied and how defeated he felt even though he was a Christian. One teacher’s kind words gave him hope.

This is one of the best books out there on those who are bullied. I was picked on like crazy because I was different. I 'overreacted' to things which made me a great source of entertainment for other kids. I read a lot, I found more solace in books than I ever could with people, I lived in a shroud of fear till an intense personal experience brought me out of it, then I could deal with the wounds of the past cause I was no longer afraid of them. This book I read years back but I still remember i ...more

WOW just wow!! Frank Peretti touched my heart on this one and my spirit. I grew up watching him in a show called MR. Henry's Wld and Wacky World. He would teach me about salvation, and Jesus Christ and ILOVEDHIM!! HE was my role model! SO when i read this book I was completely heart-broken. My role model was bullied as a child, not to mention he had a tough time feeling normal (with his disorder). I already have a strong loathing for Bullying, and this book just hit it home for me. This book didn't have any practical applications for me, not being in situations involving bullying, but I did appreciate some of the philosophical musings about evolution and morality. I don't see atheists buying any of his logic that human morality and law all point to a higher power but perhaps an agnostic could appreciate it.

My criticisms of the book would include the way it seemed to ramble and repeat things. I will admit I skimmed through a lot of it because it got a bit boring at times to

If I could give this book six stars out of five, I would. This book will actually teach you something while you're enjoying it. It was a great experience reading this book. It has lots of great information that can be very useful to people everywhere. This book will leave you feeling empathetic for the author and also much wiser. Frank Peretti is a very good writer, and this book is no exception. I was a bit more eager to get to the problem-solving part later on, but the intro stories were dramatically well done, and drew us into the topic. He has some key pieces of wisdom for the wounded, such as "If you are wounded, you are not alone," "It was not your fault," "You don't have to put up with it," and "Speak up. You really don't have to tolerate the abuse any longer." Peretti discusses the positive things that happen whe ...more

I have always enjoyed Frank Peretti's books. But this one dug deep. I never was much bullied or did I bully much in my life. But still I was able to sympathize with Frank because of something that happened different in my life when I was younger. When we can look at others as God's creation made in his image, as Mr. Peretti pointed out, then perhaps we can begin to see things in a different perspective. But it seems that first we must get out of these fortresses we have built for ourselves. One ...more

When it comes to authors that I love, such as Frank Peretti, I just pick up any of their books and begin without reading the back cover. I like not knowing what to expect. I assumed this would be another novel, like every other book I've read by him, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that was not the case. This book contains some autobiographical stories, and some brutal truth about bullying and its effects. Some very powerful words. I did a ridiculous amount of highlighting. A must read fo ...more

I believe this is a book that everyone should read. It definitely hit home with me. Bullying is a serious topic that deserves a serious book. This book is just that. Frank Peretti is known for his novels and fiction stories, but I believe that this is his best book. I remember Columbine vividly because it took place across town. His suggestions on why the two boys attacked may not be entirely correct, but they are as good of an idea as any other I've heard. Either way, the book is filled with id ...more

Must read if you have ever been bullied or bully others, and we all have. This book spoke to me, maybe because I've been there, but I think mostly because it is something we all need to hear and understand in today's hurtful society. He also paraphased some insightful words by Ravi Zacharias on morality and the proof of the exsistance of a morality 'Giver'. This is Frank's first non-fiction book. I have not read any of his fiction but they flow and hold my interest as much as this book did, I'll ...more

About: Frank Peretti’s “The Wounded Spirit” is about his life story and what he went though as a kid, how he survived all the mean, rude, stupid kids. Peretti had a few problems growing up and this is his story of how he tried to fix them and went through life.
My Thoughts: This is a poignant story and at parts I had a hard time reading it, I wanted to stop reading at parts and other parts I wanted to keep reading to find out what happened. While reading this book I had many emotions flowing thr

A nice little book I read in one night. I don't know about you but I've been through many, many bad times in my 52 years of life. Now the chronic pain has returned, my last child moved away to college, I'm in menopause, my father died and a non-nuclear family member has violently pushed me away. Frank Peritti tells the story of the abuse he experienced as a child and how he learned to overcome the pain inflicted upon him.

I think this is wonderful book and would strongly recomend it to anyone and everyone. Although it is mostly written from the standpoint of someone wounded he recognizes that even he has wounded others. In my opinion he points out beautifully how much common ground bullies and victims actually share. He points out how almost all if not all of humanity have a "wounded spirit" that affects and shapes who they are, how they handle everyday life, and how they treat others.

This is a NF book by Frank Peretti, best known for writing Christian/supernatural fiction, about the effects of bullying he endured as a child and teen. Anti-bullying has been very in-the-news the last few years because of some highly-publicized cases that played out in social media, but this book was first published in 2000 in reaction to the Columbine school shootings. He makes some good points about bullying from a Christian perspective.

This book was a real eye opener. It told the childhood of the author and how he was always picked on growing up, and then went into detail about how bullying is wrong and what we can do to prevent it. It also provides comfort to people who have been physically or mentally abused during life. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for solace from being bullied growing up, or even for anyone that would like to learn more about how to stop it.
