The first time I read this book I was already a Nora Roberts fan, but had not read any J. D. Robb books. I normally don't get into futuristic or murder mysteries much.
After reading this book I was hooked. I began aquiring all the JD books and promptly turned my daughter onto them. We are now in the process of completing her collection, as I already own them all.
I Would recommend this series (...in death) to anyone who likes a) a good 'who done it'
b) a REALLY good love story
c) ongoing series st...more

Take note: This is the only Nora Roberts book I have ever liked I think it was the combining of the two stories and the two styles that Nora Roberts/JD Robb uses in her writings. Clever. It will probably be a long time before you hear me use clever or like regarding Nora Roberts again-- even though three people I adore tend to find her books what they need at a certain time.

FROM THE PUBLISHER
She's one author - with two number-one New York Times-bestselling careers. As Nora Roberts, her novels...more

Laine Tavish is an ordinary woman living an ordinary life in the small town of Angel's Gap, Maryland, as the proprietor of Remember When, an antique treasures and gift shop. At least, that's what everyone in Angel's Gap thinks. They have no idea that she used to be Elaine O'Hara, daughter of the notorious con man Big Jack O'Hara. Or that she grew up moving from place to place, one step ahead of the law...

Laine's past has just caught up with her, though - in a very dramatic way. Her long-lost unc...more

This is the first time I know of an author writing as two separate yet equal writers; as we all know J.D. Robb is really Nora Roberts.
First up we have Nora Roberts writing about Laine Tavish and Max Gannon. There is a lot of stuff going on that brings these two together. I have read several Nora Roberts romances and they usually go perfectly for me, this one didn't. I felt the connection between them, but she lost me after they went to bed after only one date, I don't care for that type of wom...more

Originally published on my blog here in September 2004.

This is an extremely unusual collaboration - because J.D. Robb is Nora Roberts under a pseudonym. The reasoning behind billing the novel like this is quite simple, however: under the two names, she writes stories within different genres. Roberts is the name she uses to write romantic thrillers, and Robb is used for her science fiction detective series featuring Lieutenant Eve Dallas. The story here comes in two parts; in the first half we ha...more

I'd never before read anything by Nora Roberts and hadn't read a complete book by J.D. Robb (though the characters seem familiar, so I think I've read a short story). With that in mind, I really wasn't sure what to expect from this book, though I enjoyed the premise: the first half, written by "Roberts," is a sweet mystery-romance set in the early 2000s, while the second half (written by "Robb") is a futuristic police-focused mystery set over 50 years later. (Romance queen Roberts and mystery ma...more

Before I begin let me say that yes I know that Nora Roberts and J.D. Robb are the same person. But the way this book is set up they each played a role in the writing of this novel. I absolutely loved the premise and think you will to.

We start out with the first part of the book being a novella by Nora Roberts. It’s a nice romance story with a little mystery sideline weaved in. It’s not really OBS’s usual genre, but it’s still fun.

Laine Tavish is the daughter o...more

I just finished listening the audio, and what a great book. The audio cd consists of 14 discs, evenly divided between the back story Nora writes under her own name and the "In Death" section. What I especially love is the connection breaching the time barrier and the length of the Robb portion is twice as long as her shorter novelettes.

There's a lot of substance to each story, and in the Robb story, we get a lot of Peabody humor as this is the first book after she passes her detective exam. We...more

Points for the cute idea--have Roberts start with one of her mystery/romances and then morph into Robb, jump into the future, and have Dallas and Roarke finish the story along with the romantic couple's granddaughter. I also give some extra points for a well-drawn, creepy villain. Problem, I could barely get through the lamer first half before things picked up in the second. Another problem, she didn't seem to morph all the way into Robb. Maybe my brain was just tainted by the first half, or her...more

This book surprised me. I haven't read that much of Nora Roberts, and this is my first JD Robb book so I didn't know what to expect. Someone recommended it to me, and I'm glad I read it. The story is split into two parts. The first takes place in the now and is about a diamond heist gone wrong. The two main characters in the story are Max who is the insurance guy for the diamonds, and the other Jaine is the daughter of the man who stole the diamonds. they end up falling in love as they try to fi...more

I really liked this, I wasn't sure when I started it if I was going to, but I was drawn into the first half of the novel (written under the Nora Roberts name) straight away and became hooked on Laine & Max's story. The book flowed, Laine Tavish an antiques store owner in small town USA, finds her life disrupted (badly) when an old friend walks into the store, she doesn't recognise him at first, not until he's been knocked down outside her shop and he's dying does she realise he's her father'...more

I thought this was a very clever writing technique employed by Nora Roberts / JD Robb. The two stories can be read alone, yet they both enhance each other. Remember When tells the story of Laine who owns an antique store called Remember When. Laine has somewhat of a past. Her father is a thief and small-time crook who Laine's mother left years ago in order to keep Laine from growing up in the "family business". But Laine's father comes back into her life when it is discovered that he was involve...more

The first half of this book was written by Nora Roberts, and the second half by her alter ego J.D. Robb. It'a a suspenseful mystery and romantic novel involving the past, present, and future. In the present Laine Tavish is owner of an antique shop called Remember When in Angel's Gap, Maryland. In the past she was named Elaine O'Hara, daughter of a notorious con man Big Jack O'Hara. Her mother divorced Big Jack so Elaine wouldn't grow up under his bad influence - Elaine was starting to like the c...more

Isto aconte...more

It started off well enough, the characters were great and I enjoyed their chemistry, thought that they moved on to their "relationship" a tad too quickly, but I got over that. Enjoyed the sinister bad guy, he gave me the creeps, he was very John Malkovitchy and I so wanted Max and Laine to get him at the end.

And then it moved to the future...

I love Eve Dallas and the gang, but I just could get into it. I couldn't wrap my mind around having these characters aging into this alternate future and b...more

Remember When was pretty good. Part One was Roberts story and it dealt with Laine and Max. Laine's dad is a thief and was involved in a big diamond heist. Max is the investigator hired to recover the stolen diamonds. Laine and Max cross paths when a friend and partner of her dad's contacts her after the crime. I thought the mystery of this story was OK, but I really liked Laine and Max as characters. They were really good people and I was glad they were together. 3.5 stars

Part Two was Robb's sto...more

The second half of Remember When is an In Death series story, taking place about 50 years after the romantic suspense story told in Part One of the novel. In Part Two, Eve and her team are investigating a murder that occurs in the apartment of Samantha Gannon, granddaughter of the romantic couple in Part One who were involved in the partial closure of a world famous diamond heist. Samantha Gannon has written a book about the diamond heist to which her family was so closely involved and it looks...more

This book was my introduction to J.D. Robb/Nora Roberts. The first story, set in the present, is told by Nora Roberts. The second story, set in the future, is told by J.D. Robb (aka Nora Roberts). I loved the the great way the two story lines intertwined--despite the passage of time between them.

PART ONE: "Hot Rocks"- This was my first Nora Roberts story. It was and interesting tale about Laine Tavish, she owns an antique shop in a small town. A business that she worked to make a respectable place in a town she wanted to grow roots in. Especially after her early years on the run as Elaine O'Hara, daughter to Big Jack O'Hara a personable con man and small time thief. She loves her father, she just doesn't want to be anything like him. Max Gannon is a private investigator in town to find...more

In this mystery, written by both Nora Roberts and her alter-ego persona, J.D. Robb, stolen diamonds are the background for two inter-related stories. In part one, Nora Roberts spins a tale about millions of dollars of diamonds, the daughter of a thief, the insurance investigator, the con-man father, and the murdering psychopath hunting them all. In part two, fifty-something years have passed and the action switches from the sleepy Maryland town of the first part to New York. Lt. Dallas begins by...more

This is actually two books in one. The first tale told in Nora Roberts signature style. It is set in our time and tells the romance between Laine Tavish and Max Gannon. It is about love and stolen diamonds. The second book is told in J.D. Robb's signature style. That means Eve, Peabody and Roarke in the future get to find the "hot rocks" and the murder gets solved and finally comes full circle.

I loved the back of the book....Nora Roberts and her 'twin' J.D. Robb (I know they are the same person...more

While I've known for years that Nora Roberts and JD Robb were one and the same, I've just recently discovered JD Robb is an entirely freaked out version of Nora Roberts on crack!! The story lines delve deep into the evilness of humankind while still delivering top notched romance!! I liked the collaboration of the two authors and was a bit relieved that Dallas and Roarke's romance is no different than the everyday Jane and Joe.

Evilness of humankind...it's the stories that you might think about,...more

It's been a while since I've read Nora Roberts as herself. I quite liked her story. And I liked how it tied in with Eve's story 50 years in the future. I thought that I remembered Summerset coming back in the last book, though. Am I wrong? I could be, but I thought I remembered that. But he was definitely still gone in this one. So either I'm wrong or that's a pretty big inconsistency. I checked the Wiki and it says that it's explained in this book that he came back in Imitation in Death, but R...more

Overall this was a really good book. I enjoyed the first, Nora Roberts, part better then the second, J. D. Robb, part, but mainly because I like to be there when the couple meet and fall in love. Reading about them after the fact is fun, but without the initial storyline I just felt a little cheated. I think this book is good despite this since it gives you a taste of both of her writing styles, which were new to me. I'll have to go back to the beginning of the In Death series now to see when Ev...more

Achei que neste livro o romance...more

I'll admit that this series of books is my audio guilty-pleasure. While I'm sure it's a great book for beach and vacation, I just love the way it's narrated. Not just this book but Roberts/Robb's intire "In Death" series. The narrator gives each character their own voice and personality. The best series yet to listen to while walking the dog.

The one thing I don't care for is, I am sure, one of the things others love, and that is the intense sex scenes. Very descriptive and passionate, yes, but r...more
