A jaw-dropping, eye-popping opening murder sets the tone for this graphically violent mystery. Original and intricate, this plot with its many twists and turns keeps the pages flying by. Alternating viewpoints between the protagonist, Jack Harden, and the serial killer, Eddie Carter, Huffstetler creatively develops Jack’s motivations as a lawman and offers a glimpse into Eddie's psychopathic mind. Dry, witty banter and challenging situations spark the chemistry between Jack and Elise, lightening ...more

A thriller from the start, this gripping story grabs hold and takes the reader on a wildly intense ride. As they both fight the demons of their past, one spirals completely out of control while the other finds comfort and solace in the innocent kindness of an unlikely partner. Filled with wonderful susp ...more

Move over Walker, there's a new Texas Ranger in town in David W. Huffstetler's BLOOD ON THE PEN. This hard crime novel grabs the reader by the "meat hooks" on the first line and doesn't let go. Jack Harden is a tormented hero, Elsie Rodriguez is a relentless heroine, and Eddie Carter is an understandable psychopath. BLOOD ON THE PEN delves into the deeper psyche of human nature, focusing in particular upon revenge and redemption. Mr. Huffstetler entrances the reader of this mystery with wit and ...more

Let me say right from the beginning that this is full of action and twists and turns that will definitely keep the readers on the edge of their site. The violence in the book is raw and well-written. The book reads very easily, and just when you think you have come to the end, there are at least fifty pages left! Pretty exciting, to be sure.

There is some mild profanity, and there is one mild sex scene. Both of these issues didn't really bother me. I can't even complain about the ending. My issue

I was pretty excited to read this book. I know the author's wife through my mom. She talked with us about how weird it was that her husband could write these murder mysteries so well. I think she may have even used the word "disturbing". I was immediately intrigued and absolutely had to read it. I love a good thriller and if there are segments from the villain's point of view it's even better.

A man ready to end his life sits down the gun to solve one more case, and it just may be the one that ma
