Vol 2:
King creator Ho Che Anderson's second issue of this series thickens the first issue's compelling plot fragments immediately. In chapter two of "Miles from Home" (told in a dramatic two-color format), Mo explores her new neighborhood after moving in in the first issue. Rebuffing a stranger in a restaurant reinforces her bad habit of being aloof, and reaffirms her loneliness. She heads home for solace, but unresolved tensions mar what begins as a warm evening with her family. Then, after we met the all-girl band Bootsy's Last Jam in #1, the second chapter of "Naked Girls" focuses on the fellas of the Conway Quartet. A connection is made between the web of personalities introduced in the first issue as Conway Quartet frontman Cookie Hezakiah takes us through a maze of events that tie seemingly disconnected characters together. Cookie's in over his head with two different girls and a band that causes him nothing but grief. A compelling and human read perfect for fans of Love and Rockets and Strangers in Paradise.

Vol 3:
In "Naked Girls," Faith visits Gwen Jacobs and offers herself as a willing participant in Gwen's struggle. The meeting ends with Faith succumbing to Gwen's hypnotic charm and shedding her top, exposing her breasts to the world. After leaving Gwen's house, Faith hooks up with other members of Bootsy's Last Jam to put first and last down on a rehearsal space that has been snapped up by none other than Cookie, Danny, and the rest of the Conway Quartet. The only option is to avail themselves of "Acid House," the home of one of their old friends, Xan. Later, Faith agrees to take part in one of Gwen's topless marches. It's pandemonium as a mass of women suddenly remove their shirts in unison. Meanwhile, in "Miles from Home," Mo invites Hildgarde, Min, Rossi, and Garcia over for dinner to repay them for moving her stuff into her new apartment, but her shyness complicates the simple affair. Also: Anderson's "Pope's Story" features an old man reminiscing about the past, and bonus gratuitous cheesecake.

Vol 4:
"Naked Girls" concludes with a topless demonstration and hurt feelings all around, plus part four of "Miles From Home" and a faux article from music critic Blandina Steeltrap on Bootsy's Last Jam.

Vol 5:
Our creators explore "The Boob Barrier," in an epilogue of sorts to #1-4's "Naked Girls" serial. Plus: Faith celebrates her thirtieth birthday by picking up guys off the street, but can't shake that feeling of loneliness...(less)

In turn compelling and tedious, over-conceived and under-realized, excitingly drawn and colored. I like the fact that the protagonist cadre of iconoclast 90s punk girls all have unexplained broken legs -- acknowledged but continually not explained. Kinda ill.

I assume the story was meant to go somewhere, though there is little to support that assumption in the 5 volumes that were published.
