The struggle for the sealanes mounted to a climax in March 1943 when the U-Boats pounced on two transatlantic convoys bound for Britain. As the fast convoy HX229 of 40 ships caught up with the slow convoy SC122 of 54 ships, the two groups merged into one and their willing but wholly inadequate escorts were stretched beyond the limit.

An excellent account of the Battle of the Atlantic. I read this more than forty years ago. It was the Ballantine series that introduced me to World War Two. Each of the books in the collection is 161 pages long, if memory serves me correct.
They knew who their audience was back then. Each of the books only cost $1.00. I believe they are selling for $5.00 today. One of the best investments I’ve ever made when it comes to books.
I highly recommend these books to both novice and serious students o

Ballantine books was the main source for WW2 books in the 60 & 70s and
this was part of an innovative illustrated series, a godsend to young history
fans. They cost $1.

160pgs w/b&w photos and ample text telling the story.
