I recommend this book to anyone who is new to sociology. It gives you a great overall, easy to read and entertaining.

Provides the basics of Sociology, but perhaps less engaging than other Dummies editions. However, if you haven't studied any of the other social sciences before it does provide you with a decent summary in layman's terms.
