Bookmarked for Death is the second book in the Booktown Mystery Series by Lorna Barrett. I loved the first book, and this second one did not disappoint me at all. I enjoyed reconnecting with Tricia and her sister, Angelica, coming back to Stoneham, or otherwise known as Booktown.
Tricia owns and runs a mystery bookstore called "Haven't got a Clue", while her sister owns and runs the bookstore next door called, "The Cookery". Although Tricia and Angelica haven't had the greatest of relationships,...more

In this book (the second of the Booktown Mystery series), Tricia Miles holds a signing for mystery author Zoe Carter. But before the event ends, Zoe is found dead in the bathroom of the mystery bookstore, Haven't a Clue. The main suspect is Zoe's niece Kimberly, who was a holy terror during the signing and was even sent home early by Zoe because of her behaviour.

I liked the first volume of the series & had gotten the first 3 volumes at once. Despite some minor faults, the series has been very nice to read as a fluff read.
This volume finds Tricia hosting an author signing for a local citizen turned bestselling author Zoë Carter. Despite the unpleasantness of Carter's niece, the signing seems to have gone relatively well until the author is found strangled to death inside of Tricia's store bathroom. Since Tricia is already seen as the town jinx, some...more

I found this second in the Booktown series to be much meatier and better than the first in the series. Tricia is the owner of the Haven't Got a Clue mystery bookshop. And somehow, she manages to always be in the midst of trouble. As a one year bookstore celebration, she has Stoneham's only New York Times best-selling author in for a book signing. Zoe Carter is not what anyone expects of an author--she's old, drab and doesn't have any personality. How could she have written a best-selling love st...more
Tricia store Haven't Got A Clue is celebrating it's anniversary and what better way then with a book signing by best seller Zoë Carter. People are having a good time minus her grumpy assistant also her niece. When Zoë winds up dead in the bathroom and Tricia is out of an apartment and store as it is now a crime scene which has her living with her sister Angelica.

This was a fun book in an interesting world. I got it as a Christmas gift, without having read the first in the series, but that didn't impede my enjoyment or understanding of the characters, their world, or their relationships with one another at all.
The mystery element was set up exquisitely. It was a quick and yet quirky death, and there were so many suspects and red herrings I can honestly say that I did NOT predict the murderer (which is rare for me, in a cozy - usually three chapters after...more

There is so much I like about this book--the setting, which is a mystery bookstore in a town filled with a variety of bookstores, the characters, and the overall mystery is good. I did not see the ending coming, which I like, most of the time.
Here's the "but" paragraph. I thought the main character, Tricia, the mystery bookstore owner, spent waaaay too much time running around town working on solving this crime--it's the usual "the police won't solve it in the time/manner I wish them to, so I wi...more

Following the first book, Tricia solves yet another mystery! It's fun as there's more substance in this book than the first regarding character development. The different personalities continue to blend well together creating a dynamic story. Tricia and Angelica's relationship slowly progresses further as they build a sisterly bond that did not really exist in the first book. The supporting characters are nothing short of enjoyable to read too. Ginny, Angelica and Frannie are still hilarious to...more

Book 2 in the Booktown Mystery series opens with an author event in Tricia Miles' Haven't Got a Clue bookstore. Famous local author Zoe Carter had been signing copies of the fifth and final book in her Jess & Addie series, until Tricia finds her strangled in the restroom. Sheriff Wendy Adams is still nursing a grudge against Tricia and drags her feet on solving the case, but Tricia leaves no stone unturned in the quest to discover the killer and get her store reopened before her employees--t...more
Tricia Miles is hosting her thirteenth books signing in her mystery book shop when the author suddenly turns up dead in the bathroom. Soon Tricia is trying to solve two mysteries - who killed Zoe Carter and who wrote all those novels Zoe claimed to write herself, but were actually written by someone else? Meanwhile, the town is suffering from a rather unfortunate goose infestation - can Tricia come up with a solution for that as well?

A good addition to the series.
It was nice seeing the growth of the characters, especially the relationship between sisters Angelica and Tricia. They've gone from fighting a lot to actually only occasionally and building a friendship of sorts. It's nice. Then there's Ginny and Mr.Everett, just two of the nice secondary characters found in the story.

This book was disappointing, mainly due to the contrast between the first and this.
My main point of contention was with the heroine, Tricia. In addition to having absolutely no personality, she's far too efficient for any believability. She has money to do whatever she wants, gives all her employees bonuses, has the guts to talk to everyone, she doesn't like sweets in a convenient move to keep her thin and perky. She's blah. Boring.
Her boyfriend is also boring, and rather unlikable. I'm not quit...more

I'd say this was a 2 1/2 stars. I had a hard time deciding between a B- and a C+ on my own list. In the end, I rounded up because I did really enjoy it.
If you're the type of person who likes to solve the mystery before the hero(ine), then you'll like this one. It was pretty painfully obvious that it was one of two people at least half way through the book. Once the heroine started looking at one, you knew it would be the other.

Third "cozy" in a row. Now I know why I don't read them anymore. It is not the story that keeps you coming back. It is the characters and how much you like them. Well, I have decided that I am not particularly fond of these. The heroine doesn't seem to have any "backbone" where her sister is concerned. The boy/girl relationship is not believable. This is the second book. It seems to me that after eight months they could have bonded or cut bait! They haven't done either. These book seemed to be m...more

This book had me on the edge of my seat trying to figure out who the killer was. Having read the last two books first wasn't of any help because although I remembered people I didn't remember exactly what part they played although one still confuses me and I will have to go back to that book to reread what I'm confused about. :D

Last year I didn't even really read mystery novels, now I have read many and have even branched into the "cozy mystery" genre.
I particularly enjoy this series because the bibliophile in me loves the setting of the touristy town of themed bookstores. Our heroine, Tricia, runs the "Haven't Got a Clue" mystery bookshop and just like in the first book finds herself in the middle of a murder - this time in her own store. So far, this is proving to be quite an enjoyable, fun cozy mystery series. I can't say I like it quite as much as the "Murder, She Wrote" books, but it definitely has its own merits. I love the setting of Stoneham with all its bookstores. What an ideal place that would be to live!
The relationship between Tricia and her sister, Angelica, seemed to develop into a closer, easier one this time around. They didn't butt heads as much as they did in the first one, although there were still times when I...more

The second in the Booktown Mystery Series.
Tricia Miles, the main character and owner of the Haven't Got A Clue bookshop, is celebrating the anniversary of her store's opening only to have it marred by the death of a bestselling author...right in her store. Once again, Tricia has a knack for finding herself plunk in the middle of murder mystery--and the focus of attention for law enforcement investigating the crime.

Mystery bookstore owner Tricia Miles again finds a body--this time that of an author who just spoke at her bookstore--and again attracts the ire of the incompetent, hostile local sheriff. Many people wondered about Zoe Carter's books--she never showed any interest in fiction, research, or in fact in reading. How could she write five best-selling historical mysteries? Tricia suspects that the books' real author has struck Zoe down, but how can she locate an author--or a murderer--without a name,...more
This is definitely a fluff read, with not a whole lot to sink your teeth into. The whodunit was a surprise to me, but after the book dragged on so long (even though it's under 300 pages), I didn't really care about solving the mystery. The plot point with the geese was kind of annoying and rather gross, what with everyone stepping in goose droppings every five minutes. Also this book is a little too similar to the first of the series for my tastes, and I really, really, really hate the sheriff a...more
I enjoyed this mystery a little more than the one in the first book because it had a lot more to do with books, in this case the publishing world. All sorts of scandalous small-town secrets came out too, which is always fun.
The characters are still fairly unlikeable, but they are starting to grow on me. Except for main character Tricia. I don't know what it is, but she just grates on my nerves. She is very resourceful though at digging up clues, and I enjoy following her around.

I loved this book. The author must have sisters. The relationship between the sisters is very realistic and it is so good to see how the bond between them is changing almost from page to page. The murder mystery aspect of the story was so skillfully woven and the conclusions in Ms. Barretts books are always perfectly timed. Not too blunt, but not drawn out to become boring or to lose intensity. The supporting characters are realistic, interesting and for the most part, likeable. There is a perfe...more
A murder mystery set in a murder mystery bookstore (shades of Carolyn Hart's Death on Demand series). I don't know if I'll finish this one, though. It's partly the fault of the author, who has created a number of unpleasant characters (yes, I know it's a murder mystery, but cozies are supposed to create a world you'd want to live in, if you weren't one of the myriad victims), and partly the fault of the narrator, who then takes those characters and makes them sound as though they're spewing vitr...more
I would have given this book a 4 except for the fact that some of the medical information in it is completely inaccurate. Having had Type 1 diabetes since I was 14, I get quite upset when misinformation about it is in books or TV shows (I stopped watching "Blue Bloods" for this very reason - extreme reaction, I know), especially when it is a ridiculously basic fact such as when you have skipped a meal your glucose level doesn't skyrocket and you wouldn't need insulin. However, I do enjoy this se...more
This is the second in the Booktown Mystery Series and I enjoyed the read. It's not too heavy, easy to read, and the characters quite varied in personalities and ages. The love/annoyance relationship between Tricia and Angelica continues and several relationships begin to develop. I expected a little more spart between Tricia and Russ, but maybe that will come later. I was surprised by the ending, which is always nice to see I don't always have everything all figured out. I plan to continue with...more
This is the second in the Booktown Mystery series. Tricia Miles, the owner of the Mystery bookstore Haven't Got a Clue, has a book signing with an author who is a local celebrity. When the author is found murdered in Tricia's bathroom, the sheriff, who does not like Tricia, puts crime tape on the door and closes her down. Tricia and her sister, Angelica, feel that they must solve the murder to put the mystery behind them and to be able to reopen the store. I like this series for the most part bu...more
I really like Lorna's mystery mind, the character development, and the plot. However, i find the cliche sheriff who hates everything and everyone ruining these books for me. In the first book of the series, Murder is Binding, the sheriff was a minor annoyance, but now, her character is full-on annoying. I really don't know if I can read the entire series with this one minor character who is ruining the book for me.
Not a bad cozy mystery. I wasn't a huge fan of the main character Tricia, but I can't pinpoint why exactly. She runs a mystery bookshop, but for a small business owner she spends an awful lot of time running around town and not in her shop. I really did not get her relationship with Russ, her boyfriend, at all, he's kind of a jerk. But I really loved the setting to this book - a small town full of all types of bookshops, so many that it has become a tourist destination, nice little restaurants a...more
