Praise Her in the Gates: The Calling of Christian Motherhood
by
Nancy Wilson
For a Christian, motherhood is the subtle art of building a house in grace-the wise woman builds her house, but the foolish pulls it down with her hands (Prov. 14:1). Each day's work is significant, for it contributes toward the long-term plan. Each nail helps a house stand in a storm. But motherhood isn't a simple formula. Building a home-childbirth, education, discipline...more

This is a great book and pretty scriptural in its content. There are some minor disagreements that I have with the author, although some of those can probably be chalked up to emotional dislikes of the sort of women who typically embody the principles of domesticity - you know, the women with the doily, dress to the shoes with a white apron front, hair to her butt, etcetera - think Pilgrims or Quakers. Some of what she said was difficult to take at first because I wanted to justify my selfishness. This book helped me embrace the calling of motherhood. My family is so grateful I read this!
Ultra conservative, but offers great information about God's calling to motherhood and practical advice for becoming a godly wife.
My wife has read this one few times as well. I liked it, but I probably need to stick with Doug's stuff on husbandry.
Great followup to The Fruit of Her Hands on the role of a Christian wife and mother.
I really enjoyed this one and will hopefully be able to help my wife better now.
Read at least 5 times.

For us moms who feel the calling of motherhood is at times overwhelming, the author points to the fact that building a home "requires holy joy and a love of beauty...the mother that fears God does not fear the future." All chapters were beneficial and include childbirth, education, discipline, loving daughters, respecting sons, a...more
