What would you do if you could control another person's mind?

Well, you can find out exactly what happens when Willow does just that! And it's hilarious, disastrous and a little bit of everything in between! I loved the story line for Crush Control, it could have been your typical "falling for your best friend" novel, but it wasn't. There is a lot more going on in this story. It's about Willow really coming to terms with herself. It's the strained relationship between Willow's mother and her gran...more

Two years ago I read and fell in love with Jennifer Jabeley's debut novel, LIPSTICK APOLOGY. When I was offered the chance to review her sophomore novel, CRUSH CONTROL, I of course said yes. While I did enjoy this one, I did not love it like I did LIPSTICK APOLOGY. It was still a very cute book and the perfect summer read.

Willow Grey is in love with her best friend, Max. Too bad he is dating someone else. At least he seems to show some interest in her as more than a friend. Then Willow get an id...more

Cute, That’s the first word that comes to mind when I think about this book. The author has found a very unique and interesting way to put the turmoil of being the new girl but not really the new girl out in the open the stresses of the character and the desire to be some...more

Let me start by saying I was planning on writing this review earlier. This book took me way longer to read than planned. It started off good, with a cliche plot with a new twist. Boy and girl are best friends, one of them moves away and comes back when they are teenagers. The twist being Willow (our MC), hypnotized Max into being her best friend forever before she left. When she moves back to her hometown, she meets a hottie named Quinton in the park. They meet...more

The beginning of CRUSH CONTROL is winning. Willow returns to her hometown after years as her mother's assistant in Vegas. She knows how to hypnotize a crowd, but not how to interact with people her own age. And she desperately wants to fit in, because her hometown contains Max, the boy she stayed in touch with and secretly crushes on. The boy she hypnotized to be her best friend forever.

Then Willow meets Quinton, who is hot, available, intelligent, and athletic. Perhaps there are other guys out...more

crush control is the perfect example of why I try to give authors a second shot of winning me over. I may not have been wowed by lipstick apology, but crush control definitely puts Jennifer Jabaley back on my TBR radar.

THE GOOD BITS
{Cute story concept} crush control reminds me of something, maybe as far as unique parents go. Whereas Elizabeth Scott goes with ex-playboy bunny, Jennifer Jabaley goes with a former Las Vegas hypnotist for Willow’s mom. Bizarre as it sounds, it definitely works for t...more

I liked Lipstick Apology and when I saw this at Borders in their final days I felt compelled to buy it. The characters were enjoyable. The situation was extremely relatable (well apart from the hypnotizing). Moving away from your best friend for 9 years must’ve been tough! Then to find out your best friend, the one you’ve secretly been crushing has fallen for someone else. Like Lipstick Apology, this one had two totally differently guys that made Willow into two different people. Quinton made he...more

Jennifer Jabaley's Crush Control sounded really promising to me. Hypnosis, teens, the boy you've been crushing on since forever... all good stuff right? Unfortunately, this book ended up being more of a drag for me.

Synopsis: Willow has spent most of her life as her mother's sidekick in a popular Las Vegas hypnotism show. So when she and her mom move back to their sleepy southern hometown to start over, she thinks she's in for a life of quiet normalcy. Except that her new life turns out to be any...more

RATING: 2.5 stars.

"Crush Control" is the perfect book to read when you want something light, fun and fluffy. I enjoyed this book but must admit it is a very standard young adult romance book.

Willow is crushed when she has to leave her small town and her best friend, Max, at the tender age of nine years old. So she decides to hypnotize him to always be her best friend.

Now 17, Willow returns to her old town after spending years as her mother's sidekick in a hypnotism show in Vegas. She and Max ha...more

CRUSH CONTROL, by Jennifer Jabaley, is an adorable book about love and the lengths you will go to hold onto it. Willow takes a dangerous step toward the unknown when she hypnotizes a popular boy to get her real crush to notice her. Chaos ensues and Willow needs to make things right again even if the consequences will not be in her favor.

I had a lot of fun reading this book. I immediately loved Willow's 'voice' and I was interested to see what her relationship with Max would turn out to be. The...more

Ok, so my streak of luck has just run out. Not that this book is bad. It was ok. But it was very predictable to me. So much, nothing surprises me, not even the ending! I got everything right on track. Like I know exactly the effect of the hypnosis she did to her friend, Max. I know the plan to make Max jealous will backfire. And just like I said, I very know how it will end. In other words, the book has no twist whatsoever, it was too plain. Nevertheless it was nice. Some parts are funny.

I ordered this book on recommendation from Kristi The Story Siren, and it turned out to be just as great as I thought it would!

My Thoughts:

I really did enjoy this light, quick read. Willow is a great character and I didn't find it hard to identify with her. To me, she is indicative of so many teenage girls out there whose only desire is to fit in, or be accepted and she makes some bad decisions in her quest to do just that.

I really liked the idea of her making a transition from glitzy Las Vegas...more

Ms. Jabaley wrote an entertaining and fun YA read for all ages!

Willow Grey was ripped away from her best pal, Max when they were 9 years old but not before she 'made' him promise to always be her best friend forever!

She returns at seventeen to find that Max has filled out and is completely "CRUSH" worthy! They've kept in touch almost daily since she left but seeing him in person has reinforced the feelings that have been growing in Willow's heart, a more than best friends feeling...more

Very funny, with a little bit of everything.
I was surprised when Willow mentioned Taylor Swift! And she even hypnotized someone to sing her songs (Mine and You Belong With Me).
Later, there was a Taylor Lautner look-alike. I couldn't stop laughing at that!
There were comparisons of One Tree Hill, Dawson's Creek, Twilight, and Harry Potter. The Notebook and Pretty Little Liars were here as well!
And there was A Midsummer Night's Dream were the plot of the story revolved. Same theme and symbols.

While moving to Las Vegas was bad for Willow Grey, leaving her best friend, Max was worse. To make sure he always stays her best friend, she hypnotizes him, but at age nine, she's not sure it will work. Now that she's seventeen, her mom decides that they should move back to Georgia. She's going back to her home town, which means her best friend too.
Willow realizes how much she admires Max and she wants to tell him.

This book is very well written and speaks directly to preteens and teens. Thoug...more

I loved this book. I loved the story, I loved the characters and I loved the experience of reading it.

After living in Vegas for most of her life, helping her mother with her Hip Hypnotist shows, Willow is uprooted and brought back the small Georgia town were she was born. Willow takes the move as a chance to redefine herself, to start over fresh. Somehow, "starting over fresh" turns into Willow pretending that she was the Hip Hypnotist back in Vegas, which, as you can imagine, does not turn out...more

This is what great YA fiction is all about! A cute romance, great family relationships, a story with a lot of heart, and a little supernatural twist.

Quinton was just too adorable as her hypnotized boyfriend. Never mind that she was using hypnosis to make him what she thought was her perfect boyfriend! It was too cute too see him take the smitten boyfriend to the extreme.

I liked the storyline with Willow's family a lot. It felt very real. Even though she, her mother, and her grandmother...more

What would you do if you could hypnotize people and make them do whatever you want? Or think whatever you wanted them to think?

Willow and her mother are experts at hypnotizing people and making a living out of it. They moved to Las Vegas to start a new life and even had their own show. Eventually they move back to their hometown in GA and attempt to start over again. This is good news for Willow since she is secretly in love with her best friend Max since childhood. Once they are back home, thin...more

Moving back to Georgia, Willow just wants a fresh start. She wants to be seen as a fun a daring person especially to her best friend Max who she’s harboured a crush on for many years now. What ends up happening is a case of hypnosis gone wrong as things spiral out of control and Willow does everything she can to undo what she’s done.

A little hypnosis seems harmless at first and making Quinton into the perfect, caring, loving boyfriend to make Max jealous seems like a good idea. Quinton was very...more

Crush Control was a very cute, fun loving read. Though the beginning was a bit slow and kind of made me want to put it down and never pick it up again, I gave this book 4 stars because once I got into it I really started to enjoy it and I thought the ending was absolutely perfect for this story. Willow and her mom move back to Georgia after living in Vegas for eight years and she is nothing short of excitd to create a "new" life for herself and to see what the future will hold for her and her be...more

SUMMARY: Willow is the daughter of a famous Vegas hypnotist, and is using it to get what she wants, whether it be a boyfriend, popularity, or a best friend. But when she entangles herself in a love spell mess, she tries to fix it on her own, and conflict occurs.

First impression: ugh i do not want to read this...

I was absolutely in love with Jabaley's first novel Lipstick Apology, so I knew I had to read this right away.

I will admit that when I first began Crush Control, I wasn't too thrilled. It seem to lack everything Lipstick Apology had, and I was disappointed.

After a while, though, the book did get better. I didn't like it as much as Lipstick Apology, but it was still a good read.

I felt the characters weren't exactly too relatable to at time. I felt some of them had flaws emotion-wise, such as Will...more

Interesting plot with all those hypnotism going on. I am in between when it comes to believing in hypnotism. But the story was pretty convincing. Especially when it went out of hand for Willow. I can't believe she did "that" with Quinton but it got interesting at some points.

I like Quinton anyhow. I really have this feeling that he's a good guy. He's perfect, not just ready, I think.

I love the tension between Max and Willow. I love every little detail involving the two of them. And th...more

This is one of the rare non-fantasy books I've read, but it had such an interesting twist on the best friends-to-lovers story that I couldn't resist.

Overall, the story was excellent. The writing is straight forward, and Willow sounded like a regular teenager. And yes, she's a believable teenager as well. Most teenagers, when they know they've done something wrong, will hide it from their parents for as long as possible.

I love how things spiral out of control and how Willow and Georgia try to fix...more
