Stories of the Patriarchs, retold for children in folk tale style. The English translation by Caroline Cunningham is graceful and dignified; the illustrations are exquisite. I hope to read more of Asch's work.

Sholem Asch born Szulim Asz (Yiddish: שלום אש), also written Shalom Asch (1 November, 1880, Kutno - July 10, 1957, London) was a Polish-born American Jewish novelist, dramatist, and essayist in the Yiddish language.
