This is a well-researched, comprehensive book that is geared for military mums but would be useful for any mother who works long hours in non-traditional work environments (think law enforecment, EMT, fire fighter). There are lots of books that talk about going back to work & pumping and some do cover travel for work. None that I know of go into detail about how to maintain your supply & get your milk safely shipped home from Afghanistan, for example. Or how to deal with being separated...more
I am not an active-duty mom, but my husband is career military. I am a volunteer breastfeeding counselor with La Leche League, and I have read quite a few breastfeeding books. This is by far my favorite. I really like the matter-of-fact tone. So many breastfeeding books go on and on about how you might be feeling and other fluffy topics (sorry!) with a very conversational tone, and a lot of moms appreciate that, but I really liked that the author gets to the point and delivers the information as...more
This is a pretty comprehensive breastfeeding book, and I think it's a great resource, especially for moms going back to work (particularly, if they are going back after a very short leave, such as 6 weeks) as well as moms that work varied schedules or have to be separated from their babies for even longer periods (like work trips, etc). Thanks to all the nursing military moms out there that contributed to this book. I just finished the book and it is a must read for nursing military moms, commands, and medical staff. It would also be useful to any working and nursing m...more

I love writers who say what they think, not what they think their readers expect. Robin is doing a great service to mothers everywhere with this book.

Recommends it for:
Active duty nursing moms (and their leadership)
This was the third straight breastfeeding book I've read in the past month, so a lot of the "technical" information was redundant. Roche-Paull did her homework regarding policies and regulations in place for each military branch, and it's invaluable.
